About Bruce Hecker

I am a literature and philosophy teacher. My wife teaches elementary school. We have lived in Manhattan for the past 15 years, raising our children here and traveling together to all parts of the globe.

Bruce Hecker purchased this townhome in 2012

Why Bruce Hecker chose Washington Heights

My family and I moved to this town house four years ago. We have come to love its easy proximity to all the city has to offer, while also enjoying a large, elegant home with rare outdoor space.

The Washington Heights neighborhood is a vibrant part of Manhattan with gorgeous housing stock. It is easily accessible to all parts of the city yet allows for quiet evenings and mornings. A full-sized supermarket, pharmacy, bank, and bakery are all within a five-minute walk. The surrounding residents formed a neighborhood association four years ago to bring us closer together. Our efforts are in evidence all around, from the volunteer beautification projects at the Morris-Jumel mansion to the colorful tulips springing up everywhere in the tree-pits in all along the sidewalk. We have also provided a means by which residents and visitors can feel as if we are continually looking out for each other.

What makes this townhome unique

The Morris-Jumel mansion historic neighborhood is recognized for its rich land-marked monuments and its bucolic splendor--this is easily seen on Sundays when tourists from all over the world are seen snapping photographs.

Our block is routinely sited as the prettiest in Northern Manhattan for its wide, tree-lined boulevard and tasteful array of window-boxes and areaways.

This property was recently used as the location for shooting several documentaries and one feature length film--the elegance of the original oak features attracted the set designers and directors.

A private garden with fence and gate is available to guests for sitting, creating a wonderful opportunity to have a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening.

What a lovely home away from home -

charming, well-appointed and comfortable. The greystone is quintessential NYC and immaculate. Near a park, the Cloisters and most important, a train station. It was super easy to get downtown to restaurants, parks and museums. We highly recommend this apartment, you will not be disapppinted.

Comfortable weekend home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in order to attend a sporting event in the area. The place checked every box we needed. Comfortable, clean, convenient, and well appointed. Lots of little things that are not always provided in a rental were the icing on the cake. Highly recommended and we will return.

Live Like A Local

  • 4 of 5

If you want to feel what its like to live in a NYC borough, this is the place. You won't get the hustle & bustle of the city, but you will get nice, relaxing Washington Heights life. Enjoy.

Attractive Unit, near a Train

  • 5 of 5

This unit is somewhat traditional but attractive. It is sizeable, and separated nicely by the kitchen and sliding doors. 4 people should sleep there very comfortably. The location is right near a train station and C-Town Grocer(which we liked due to its Hispanic 'flavor'). There are a few restaurants nearby, but I wouldn't call it a restaurant district. We always felt very safe. Bruce and Sabrina were very helpful and responsive with tips, and accommodated us during the Bomb-Cyclone storm.

Excellent Apartment

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the apartment for just over 2 weeks, throughout the Christmas period this year, and it was a lovely place to have as our base. The apartment is large and furnished attractively, with everything you could require available. It’s quiet and private, yet in the heart of authentic Manhattan living. The subway is quite literally just around the corner, and if you’re feeling energetic you can make the interesting walk to central Manhattan. When we needed to ask a question Bruce replied instantly, and was helpful and pleasant. We would definitely recommend the apartment for anyone wishing to stay in a lovely home and experience being part of one of the most vibrant cities.

Peaceful, comfortable and convenient:)

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed an activity filled Veterans Day weekend with my sons. Location was great and wonderfully convenient to public transportation, quick 2 minute walk to train station, connecting everywhere. In addition to the convenient proximity to public transportation, it was surprising how peaceful, comfortable and quiet it was when we got "home". (welcomed respite for recharge to keep up with teenagers;)

Very pretty and well cared for inside and out!
