The proprietors have been fishing, camping and hiking the wilds in and around New Lancaster Valley since being introduced to the area in 1982 by two brothers, who had been fishing the local creeks and mountain streams since the 1930's.
The brothers, fine fisherman and story tellers both, are indicative of the local people, full of life, generosity and exuberance. The land alongside beautiful Honey Creek where the cabin was built, was discovered by the proprietors' eldest teenage son. He had the idea to build a cabin so their family could spend more time together in the Valley and mountains they enjoy so much and to be closer extended family and to the trout streams and mountains that he and his younger brother grew up enjoying. And so after a three year search for ground and two years of planning and construction with the assistance and camaraderie of the proprietors' friend and fishing companion, Camp Honey Creek was realized. The brothers who introduced the proprietors to the area continue to fish the mountain streams together and often with their children and grandchildren whenever they visit Camp Honey Creek.
The proprietors hope you enjoy the Camp, local people, wildlife and outdoors activities as much as they do and that you come away with your own stories to tell your grandchildren.
Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2012
This property is uniquely situated alongside Honey Creek, a narrow babbling brook stocked in sections with trout by the State Game Commission. Activities in the area abound. Canoeing, sightseeing, wildlife, birds, streams, lakes, biking, hiking or just relaxing by the stream reading a book. Artists and skilled craftsman are everywhere. There is a friendliness and generosity among the local people seldom witnessed anywhere- a sort of 'Norman Rockwell' meets 'John Muir.' Once you have spent time in New Lancaster Valley and the 7 mountains you may want to return again and again.
The cabin comfortably sleeps 9 and you can prepare and eat all meals in if you wish; pack lighter because you can wash your clothes easily in the onsite washer and dryer; walk outside along the stream and trees bothered by no one. Trails, streams and wildlife await you such that you could never see it all in one lifetime. There is no cell phone reception at the cabin. No telephone, no television, no cable, no electronic entertainment at all. If you sit still inside the cabin all you can hear is the quiet.
We stayed two times- once to watch Penn State play Army (our niece went to Navy but our son is a sophomore at Penn State); and Rutgers with our son. We waited till the last minute and everything was booked in town so we were lucky to find this awesome place. Although as the owner said it's a good 35 minutes from Happy Valley- the drive was a piece of cake and well worth the extra minutes in the car! Games over we went back to the cabin- no better place to relax- and it's so quiet it's unbelievable. Each morning we walked down by the creek, cooked bacon, eggs, pancakes and corned beef hash. Our son is trying to coax us back in the spring. We already booked be back our second son's freshman dorm move in the fall! And we will certainly book for graduation weekend when our boys graduate! What a find!
The place is beautiful and very clean. The outside area is just as nice. It is very secluded and is a great place to spend quality time with loved ones. Danny, the owner, is very easy to reach and gave us suggestion on what to do in the area. It is about 45 minutes from Penn State. There is no wi fi or cell phone accessibility at the house which is the only downfall but you can get reception about 10 minutes away . I would recommend this property to others.
Where to begin! This property is absolutely stunning!!! Pictures do not due justice for how beautiful this cabin is. It truly is a home away from home. The cabin is furnished with so many nice little amenities. The inside is impeccably clean and the craftsmanship amazing. We utilized every aspect of the property - cozy inside furnishings, lovely sundeck, fire pit, walking path to the river and more. We felt like we were at our own private resort!
Can't say enough about the owners either. Very, very gracious on so many levels! Always available for any questions that I had, extremely gracious on accommodations for our hectic schedule and just wonderful to deal with. Thank you, thank you!
Looking forward to returning for another vacation oasis!
I would highly recommend this property. The listing details are very accurate as are the pictures. This is a lovely home which is well-maintained and impecably kept. My family was very comfortable staying here and it made our daughter's graduation that much more enjoyable for all!!
If your out for trout or a family retreat this cabin and property is a gem.
The care of construction detail and workmanship alone will hve you running your hand along the hand hewn log timbers and mortise and tennon joinings .
Treuly a remarkable blend of old worrld techniques with new age amenities .
This property is awesome. It's a special place, clearly built by craftsman with attention to detail. The site is beautiful. The gorgeous stone steps/patio with the fire pit are extremely conducive to great conversation and bonding. You can catch fish in the brook behind the house, or make the short drive through the state park to various locations. If I were building my own home away from home to be in the woods near flyfishing, this would be my model.
Was at the cabin May 2015 to Fly Fish on Penn's Creek. The Log Cabin is a great place for the family and offers all of the needed amenities' both indoors and out. Cabin is located about forty minutes from Penn's Creek and the same for shopping and dining in State College, Pa. Great location to use as base camp to visit the many attractions in Central Pa. Plan to visit again this summer...
