rural gite near Guerledan lake , St Aignan , Cleguerec and Pontivy

This 2 bedroom detached house has been well furnished with modern fittings and furnishings. It has a large south and east facing garden which is securely fenced. Set in

a tranquil rural location, it is 4km from the shops.The garden has fruit trees, a BBQ,a dining area, and garden loungers. Situated next to the huge Quenecan forest with its many footpaths,ideal for walks. The Nantes Brest canal is only 5km away. The

Guerledan lake is 6km away with its restaurants.. and in 2015 the lake is being emptied from March-November. Guided tours are available to explore the lost houses and villages. Pontivy is an historic town and main shopping area (17km) There is an indoor swimming pool here,and in summer there is an outdoor pool,where you can swim or

just relax, read and have a picnic. Pontivy also has a ten pin bowling alley and soft play area. Cleguerec is the nearest village (4km) for all your shopping needs.

The kitchen is well equipped with a fridge freezer, microwave, cooker, a mini oven, coffee machine, toaster, kettle , food processor, washing machine etc. Electric heating throughout. 50 units of electrics is included

in the price, the remainder is charged at standard rate (the gite has a separate meter)

The bathroom has a shower, hand basin and toilet. The lounge has a TV with english and french free channels, and there is a DVD player, CD player and video machine. There are plenty of books and games, and info on the events and places to visit in the area. Upstairs there are steps leading into the south facing part of the garden.

Downstairs there are 2 bedrooms. The main bedroom has patio windows leading onto the garden,overlooking a fish pond (covered with a grill), and flower beds. The 2nd bedroom has bunk beds.Bed linen and towels are provided.

There is ample parking in front of the gite, with views over to the forest and across the fields.

The area has many music festivals throughout the year, often free. There are plenty of markets selling local produce, and often there are concerts during the market as well. The abbey de Bon Repos is nearby, next to the canal. The son et lumiere in august is an evening spectacle,

with over 400 actors. There is also a sunday market here, where fresh local produce is sold, and artisan crafts. The local bar has a terrace, and on sunday they have musicians playing. The meals are good , and reasonable. I can

recommend the nice restaurants, which have good lunches. These cost around 11 euros for 2-3 courses, and often include the wine.

The owner lives in a detached farmhouse by the gite.

I moved here in 2002, not really knowing anything about Brittany. But I immediately fell in love with the area, the culture and the people. I love the countryside, outdoor life, the pretty villages, towns and of course, I love the lake! The lake is so tranquil, with its lovely paths for walking, the restaurants and good for swimming. So I don't need to travel far for my love of water to be satisfied! I have a small dog, so it is perfect to be next to the huge forest for walks. Cycling and walking beside the canal is great, no traffic and no HILLS! I go to lots of the local car boot fairs, and there are always festivals to celebrate something, usually food! I paint, sculpt, garden, love to dance and go to the music festivals, I I love meeting people and eating out.

Why Eve Taylor chose Saint-Aignan

Arriving via the pretty village of St Aignan, along the road with forest and fields, the views alone sold the house. Set next to the forest with the potential for walks, yet close to the village with all its amenities, it was ideal. The property had 2 buildings, the typical Breton farmhouse with its traditional features yet all mod cons.. and the gite which was filled with light and modern. It was also in the heart of Brittany which meant easy access to the whole of Brittany, and also meant access to the UK was easy. The lake and canal both gave a freedom of access for walks and cycling. Once here, it was clear this was home..

What makes this house unique

Location! The views down the valley are stunning. Watching the morning sun rise, to watching the stars in a sky unpolluted by lights. In the winter/autumn the mists below are lovely, yet the houses are set above this, usually with their heads in the sun! The forest is next to the property, so daily walks are a joy. Yet so close to the shops, with all amenities, and a bonus, the locals are lovely, very friendly. With such beautiful countryside, villages and Pontivy town all around, this was a good choice!

The house is situated next to the huge quenecan forest, which is ideal for walking. The lake is 6km away, with its restaurants and cafes. God for water sports except 2015 when the lake will be drained! There will be guided tours of the base of the lake, to visit buildings normally submerged. Nantes Brest canal at 4km is ideal for walks, fishing and cycling Pontivy is the nearest town with its small shops, historic buildings, the canal, and plenty of restaurants/cafes

St Aignan is a pretty local village witha creperie, shop,bar, electricity museum and canal walks, Cleguerec has a supermarket, pharmacy, banks, florists,2 bakery shops,butchers, banks, hair dressers, estate agents, petrol pumps, bars, restaurants, garages, vets. It even has its own statue of liberty in the village square!

Pontivy is a historical town with a chateau, many shops, restaurants, outdoor and indoor swimming pool, 10 pin bowling, and soft play area

The house is in the heart of Brittany, and the north and south coast are both about an hour away. The north is more rugged, with cliff walks and emerald seas, the south has many islands, , pretty fishing villages, wild and rocky seas! Nearby is the Guerledan lake, with its many trails for walks/cycling, swimming, water sports, canoes, pedalos restaurants, and small sandy beaches. The Nantes Brest canal is good for walks, cycling, canoeing etc.

End of stay cleaning .. please leave the gite clean and tidy. There is an optional cleaning service if required.
8kw units of electrics per day is included in the price of the holiday. This is usually sufficient for summer visitors. Meter readings are taken for the gite, and any excess usage charged at the standard rate (currently 15 cents/Kwh) tourist tax is paid in cash on arrival, currently 50 c per adult per day

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
