About Pall V. Bjarnaon
I am a self employed architect in Reykjavik and my wife, Sigga, is an editor with the University of Iceland press. We like to travel around the world and our country. We have stayed in rented apartments in Europe and think this is a brilliant way of travelling. It opens another dimension in travelling. We have three daughters and eight grandchildren. I would describe us as sociable people who like to meet other people. I am very fond of classical music and attend concerts of the Icelandic symphony orchestra on a regular basis.
Pall V. Bjarnaon purchased this Apartment in 1990
Why Pall V. Bjarnaon chose Downtown
I am a restoration architect and we bought this house literally in ruins and restored it. You could see it was a beautiful house with a great location right in the center. Everything is within reach for us the owners as well as for people who stay in the apartment.
What makes this Apartment unique
The house was built in 1918 in a traditional decorative neo-baroc style and we have recently restored the basement apartment in the 1920s style, mixed with brand new design furniture and luxurious beds. The location is perfect for guests while staying in Reykjavik. You don´t need a car and if you need we have two extra bicycles for our guests. In front there is a small patio with a table and chairs exclusively for our guests in the summer.

Spacious, immaculate and close to everything
We spent four nights in this lovely downstairs apartment perfectly situated in downtown Reykjavik. The three bedroom, two bathroom layout with ample living and dining areas was more than enough space for our family of six. The kitchen was stocked with essentials including coffee and tea as well as milk and sugar. The local supermarket was an easy walk allowing us to have breakfast in the apartment before we headed out for the day. There were numerous restaurants within walking distance and a superb bakery, Braud and Co., was too close for our own good. The main shopping streets were an easy walk as well. Amenities and location aside, the history of the house and it's decor made for a truly Icelandic experience.
The apartment is the lower level of a large house. It has plenty of space for everyone! There were 5 of us and it was perfect, but there was room for a few more. We enjoyed having a kitchen to do breakfast and pack lunches to save money on the trip. It is conveniently located in town! Restaurants and shops are steps away. Even the grocery store is close by. Bus stops 2 and 3 and right down the street for meeting tour buses or the airport shuttle as well. We had a rental car and there were always spots available on the street in front of the house (you do have to pay for daily parking though so be aware of that, was like $10 a day). The owners are very friendly and helpful. They let us drop our bags off there before check in time. They also have a binder in the house with tips on everything from which restaurants are good to how to use the washing machine. You'll need to hang your clothes to dry on the radiators though, dryer does not work, but the radiators dry things overnight. I would recommend this house to anyone with a large party because of the amount of space, kitchen with plenty of supplies and having 2 bathrooms. It's in a great spot in town!
A great place
Wonderful house, perfect location
The lower level apartment in this historic house is spacious, comfortable and ideally located in the center of Reyjavik; within walking distance of restaurants, shopping and the harbor. The hosts are very kind and will provide recommendations and advice, if requested. They also provide some pantry basics (coffee, tea, sugar, butter, laundry soap, etc.) which was very nice. Having a home base in Reykjavik to come back to after a day of exploring Iceland (rented a car so we could see the sights on our schedule) was the right choice for us!
Beautiful, centrally located home.
This is a beautiful home in a great location. Pall is a wonderful host and very helpful. Our group of 5 women was very comfortable in every way - sleeping accommodations, kitchen area, and a very comfortable living room area to sit and recount the days adventures. The house is clean, well-kept, and everything is in proper working order. We would definitely recommend this location for your Iceland vacation. Thank you Pall for helping to make our Iceland visit a memorable one.
Awesome location and home; Terrific owners
Quaint home in the heart of Reykjavik. Perfect for our group of six adults. Beds, baths, kitchen, and family room/tv room great space for all to relax, gather, whatever. Close to restaurants, bars, historic places of interest, etc. We didn't rent a car - used Grayline bus to and from airport - brings you within a block of this home. (Bus Stop 2) While there we either walked or were picked up for excursions - again at bus stop 2. Pall gave great recommendations on restaurants and things to do. Had one breakfast and one lunch at Berggstrom - 2 short blocks away. Highly recommend! Also recommend you check out the I Heart Reykjavik blog (not affiliated with this home). Great source of info on the city/things to do. Enjoy!
