Built in 1919 and meticulously restored in 2011, this elegant duplex abounds with vintage style and charm. One of the first homes to be built on the block, the view of Los Feliz and the many authentic period details are not to be missed.
This listing is for the top floor (2 BR/1BA). If you need more room, see VRBO #412795 for the lower apartment, and/or VRBO #303778 for our nearby cottage.
Craftsman windows span the entire width of the building, giving you straight-arrow views of the Hollywood sign and the Observatory. The ceilings are 10 feet high with large windows in every room. The kitchen is farmhouse style, with a restored antique stove, original cabinetry, and a salvaged wood bar. The bathroom has a full size tub and plenty of space. Outside, you have your own deck with built-in benches and a small front yard that is secure and private, opening out to Griffith Park Blvd, just 2 blocks north of Sunset Junction in Silverlake.
Sunset Junction is a neighborhood hub, with Cafe Stella and Intelligentsia coffee, as well as a boutique called Driftwood, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, and the Silverlake Cheese store. Even closer is Cafe Casbah, Forage, Pazzo Gelato, Naturewell, and Vacation Vinyl records. We have the Silverlake Farmer's market once a week, right around the corner. There is a wealth of great boutiques, restaurants, and bars within an easy (slight downhill) 5 minute walk from the building.
For kids, there is Shane's Inspiration, pony rides, a carousel, the Zoo, and the Museum of the West just 2.2 miles from the building in Griffith Park.

We began restoring buildings in Silverlake in 1997, but it's been a lifelong passion. Tim has a background in set decorating and woodworking. Robin has a background in Art Direction and loves gardening. We use salvaged/eco-friendly building materials, antique furnishings, and green cleaning products whenever possible.
We have many years of experience as landlords and hosts, and are known for being responsive, service-minded, and reasonable with pricing and management.
Robin Wallace and Tim Snowber purchased this apartment in 2011
We love this part of Silver Lake because we can walk almost everywhere we need to go, but when we need to drive, the 5, 101, 110, and 134 freeways are very close by. We've always loved the trees, the architecture, and the neighborhood feel of Silver Lake.
There's an innate sense of calm in this building, maybe because it's held up for almost 100 years. We love the view, the convenience, and the proximity to the 'flow' of the city. It makes for great work and family trips. Whether you are interested in architecture, sightseeing, music, food, wine, artisan boutiques, or the outdoors, Silver Lake has all of this and more to offer... we love this building in particular because it's so central and it has great character and style.
We love this house! We had an amazing experience, and would definitely stay again. Robin is fabulous! We loved the treats & wine she had left for us. Great details, comfy bed, hospitable host, we couldn't ask for more!
This was the perfect place for us. I was visiting my son and his partner who live in the Silver Lake neighborhood and we could easily walk back and forth between his place and the rental. The space was extremely clean and was a very comfortable place for all of us to spend time in between outings. I, as an old woman who likes to cook, would say that the kitchen facilities came up a bit short; however, we ended up going to the most awesome restaurants in the area instead!--which was very good for me and stretched me out of my rut a bit. I had El Savadorian papoosas (from the local farmers market) for the first time, which I loved. I also had the best-ever Brazilian dinner one evening. Being from middle Tennessee, home of the "meat and three" (a meat dish and 3 side veggies), this was all new and great fun for me. I will always remember this trip.
We had a wonderful 2 day stay. The 2 bedroom apartment is comfortably furnished and spacious. Wonderful view. The flat is an easy walk to many unique restaurants and bars. Thanks for the stay.
My family had a wonderful time here. The decor is thoughtful and simple and matches the home well. There are blackout shades on all bedroom windows and a few other thoughtful touches that aren't in pictures. The location is phenomenal- is stay here anytime I am in LA. We also parked exactly in front of the house every single time we came back to it. No parking problems for us.
Things to know beforehand- there is no dishwasher, laundry is with coin machines, no blender, the neighbors do indeed have barking dogs. We used sound machine apps on our phones for sleeping is and it didn't bother us at all. None of these things took away from our stay.
Every Tuesday and Saturday there is a small but lovely farmers market a couple blocks away. Highly recommend pine and crane for Taiwanese-ish delicious food.
Our hosts were also very prompt returning our questions, accommodating, and wonderful.
I've spent time in a lot of VRBOs over the years, but Tim and Robin's 2-bedroom flat is really one of the very best. The house itself, while clearly renovated, has all the old-fashioned charm of its era, down to the mission furniture and what seems to be its original kitchen. The rear of the place -- near the kitchen and dining area -- is full of windows and light, plus a nice view of the Hollywood sign, the Griffiths Observatory and the hills around. We found the place in immaculate shape, and were delighted to find that a bunch of nice restaurants and shops are less than half a mile away; an easy 8-minute walk. The neighborhood is economically diverse and peaceful. I can't recommend it highly enough.
We loved this place--airy and bright, really ideally located. And incredibly well equipped! With a very responsive host. Some noise filters into the master bedroom from the apartment below, but not a huge issue by any means. Already trying to figure out how to stay again!
This property is 2 blocks from Sunset Junction with all of the cafes, restaurants and boutiques, and 2 miles from Griffith Park, with hiking trails, horseback riding, the Zoo, the Observatory, the Autry Museum, Travel Town, the Carousel, and Shane's Inspiration. Loads of fun for everyone. It's also nearby Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House in Barnsdall Park, MOCA, Disney Hall, The Echo/Echoplex and all that Echo Park has to offer. Plus all of the great things Hollywood has to offer: Universal Studios, the Walk of Fame, Arclight Cinema and Amoeba Music. As well as DTLA (downtown LA): Disney Hall, Museum of Contemporary Art, the Broad Museum, newly re-furbished Cliftons restaurant and the Grand Central Markey. Lots to look forward to!
