Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday apartment in Los Feliz - 2BR Craftsman

Duplex, 2 Bedrooms + Sofabed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1 - 6)

Built in 1919 and meticulously restored in 2011, this elegant duplex abounds with vintage style and charm. One of the first homes to be built on the block, the view of Los Feliz and the many authentic period details are not to be missed.

This listing is for the top floor (2 BR/1BA). If you need more room, see VRBO #412795 for the lower apartment, and/or VRBO #303778 for our nearby cottage.

Craftsman windows span the entire width of the building, giving you straight-arrow views of the Hollywood sign and the Observatory. The ceilings are 10 feet high with large windows in every room. The kitchen is farmhouse style, with a restored antique stove, original cabinetry, and a salvaged wood bar. The bathroom has a full size tub and plenty of space. Outside, you have your own deck with built-in benches and a small front yard that is secure and private, opening out to Griffith Park Blvd, just 2 blocks north of Sunset Junction in Silverlake.

Sunset Junction is a neighborhood hub, with Cafe Stella and Intelligentsia coffee, as well as a boutique called Driftwood, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, and the Silverlake Cheese store. Even closer is Cafe Casbah, Forage, Pazzo Gelato, Naturewell, and Vacation Vinyl records. We have the Silverlake Farmer's market once a week, right around the corner. There is a wealth of great boutiques, restaurants, and bars within an easy (slight downhill) 5 minute walk from the building.

For kids, there is Shane's Inspiration, pony rides, a carousel, the Zoo, and the Museum of the West just 2.2 miles from the building in Griffith Park.

About Robin Wallace and Tim Snowber

We began restoring buildings in Silverlake in 1997, but it's been a lifelong passion. Tim has a background in set decorating and woodworking. Robin has a background in Art Direction and loves gardening. We use salvaged/eco-friendly building materials, antique furnishings, and green cleaning products whenever possible.

We have many years of experience as landlords and hosts, and are known for being responsive, service-minded, and reasonable with pricing and management.

Why Robin Wallace and Tim Snowber chose Los Angeles area

We love this part of Silver Lake because we can walk almost everywhere we need to go, but when we need to drive, the 5, 101, 110, and 134 freeways are very close by. We've always loved the trees, the architecture, and the neighborhood feel of Silver Lake.

What makes this apartment unique

There's an innate sense of calm in this building, maybe because it's held up for almost 100 years. We love the view, the convenience, and the proximity to the 'flow' of the city. It makes for great work and family trips. Whether you are interested in architecture, sightseeing, music, food, wine, artisan boutiques, or the outdoors, Silver Lake has all of this and more to offer... we love this building in particular because it's so central and it has great character and style.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Better than a home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in the downstairs one-bedroom apartment in this lovely Craftsman house and have loved it for its overall convenience, cleanliness, amenities and comfort. This time, we were lucky to secure this 2-bedroom unit and it was just as wonderful: clean, spacious, comfortable, with all amenities and so convenient to restaurants and shopping in Silver Lake. And the view... seeing the Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood Sign while drinking my morning coffee...! What a way to start the day!

Tim and Robin are wonderful hosts, are available and responsive to help out with requests or questions. Friendly and welcoming. What more can be said??

Yes, we are looking forward to our next visit, to be sure!

Great location

  • 4 of 5

The property was neat and clean and had everything we needed. I loved the location...close to many places we wanted to see. there were several good restaurants within walking distance that were nice.

We had an issue with the thermostat that controlled the AC which was unfortunate. The owner responded quickly and although he was unable to fix it over a weekend he definitely tried.

I would definitely return to this location.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review Liz. Sorry that I wasn't able to get the AC guy there over the weekend. It turned out to be a simple fix once he got there. We look forward to seeing you again. Tim

Awesome house. All the comforts of home. Conveniently located.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house. The traffic took a little getting used to, but we quickly adapted. In easy walking distance of restaurants. Parking depended on the time of day. Beds were comfy, bathrooms adequate, nice towels, soaps, washer & dryer coin operated, but not expensive. A/C , cable tv, all the comforts you could ask for. Kitchen had all your basic needs. Coffee was a welcome sight after getting in late the first night. The house is adorable old house decorated with such pretty antiques. The view from kitchen was spectacular. Easily see the Hollywood sign. Decks & outside sitting was great. Tim & Robin were easily available for any needs & a very gracious hosts. Only suggestion would be a list of nearby places to get food & restaurants. Tried Uber & it was great experience too. Would highly recommend to stay!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed the place so much Susan and thanks for your suggestion regarding our favorite spots. Sorry I didn't let you know there were quarters in the coffee cup over the washer for you to use in the machines. We would love to have you stay with us again. Tim

Great location and views

  • 5 of 5

Great location for Silverlake and downtown area. We enjoyed our stay in this well appointed Craftsman home. Very comfortable for 2 to 4 people. It would be a nice improvement to have a small barbeque, as the stove and broiler is an old wedgewood type gas unit. Regardless we were easily able to cook a variety of meals. The bedrooms are very comfortable as well. Parking was not a problem. Spaces opened up in the late morning and early afternoon. We are looking forward to our next stay here. We would highly recommend this property if you want to stay near downtown, but not in that hustle.

Craftsman with charm

  • 4 of 5

Nice home with everyday items that you need and some extras. The beds were comfortable.

Parking is very difficult, but we somehow managed to get a spot across the street (Pretty sure that's a L.A. thing). Could use some curtains in the living room for privacy.

Overall it was a nice place to stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your response Katie. Yes, parking can be easy one day and tricky the next. We hadn't thought of curtains for the living room as we didn't want to obscure the view. Thanks for the suggestion. Tim

Car: not necessary

This property is 2 blocks from Sunset Junction with all of the cafes, restaurants and boutiques, and 2 miles from Griffith Park, with hiking trails, horseback riding, the Zoo, the Observatory, the Autry Museum, Travel Town, the Carousel, and Shane's Inspiration. Loads of fun for everyone. It's also nearby Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House in Barnsdall Park, MOCA, Disney Hall, The Echo/Echoplex and all that Echo Park has to offer. Plus all of the great things Hollywood has to offer: Universal Studios, the Walk of Fame, Arclight Cinema and Amoeba Music.
