Whether you are active and are looking for a place to hike or want to take a lover's tour through the hudson valley wineries, our studio awaits you in lovely New Paltz. Only 90 miles from New York City and in the most beautiful area our state has to offer. Come and see for yourself! We are five minutes to town, great trails, wineries, restaurants, and pubs.
The New Paltz area is filled with all the beauty we were looking for. We are originally from NYC and love the proximity our town is to the city. We enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle. We love to hike, mountain bike, kayak, snow shoe, and cross country ski. In every season of the year we find activities to enjoy the outdoors. We also love to eat organically from our land, enjoy the beauty that surrounds us, and living a peaceful and serene life. Jen may be spotted knitting on our front porch while the sun sets.
Franky and Jenny Pérez purchased this studio in 1997
Our property sits facing west at the majestic Shawangunk Ridge. The sunrises and the sunsets are breathtaking. In the morning, you will see a red hue shimmering on the rocks as the sun rises from the east. In the evening, an amazing bright orange glow as the set falls behind the ridge in the west.
Falling in love with this property was easy once we saw the huge rock pile we had for a view. Sitting on the foothills of these mountains, only four miles from the town of New Paltz, we new we had the best location for our home. We are minutes away from everything exciting this town has to offer. The New Paltz area has the finest restaurants, wineries, outdoor festivals and events the Hudson valley has to offer. Don't miss the Taste of New Paltz, Crafts Fairs, or Rib festival our town hosts every year. There are also many smaller events hosted at wineries throughout the year. The outdoor activities that are possible in over 24,000 acres of trails, ponds, rock cliffs for climbing, ice climbing, and swimming holes are endless. After you return from your activities, lounge on the 24' deck or in our hammock area in the shade as you enjoy the beautiful gardens. We have carefully selected and planted all the perennials, shrubs, grasses, and trees to reflect a gorgeous landscape in color and form. The Chamber of Commerce selected our property to be on the annual garden tour. Over 200 guests visited our gardens and were inspired by this experience. Our property has a natural creek running though it which allows for wildlife such as heron, frogs, toads, deer, and fox to visit us for a drink. Our pool is private and will cool you off after a day of hiking in the woods. Our bon fire area is perfect for star gazing on brisk evenings while sip on hot chocolate. You are welcome to stroll the gardens, pick flowers, or collect eggs from our chicken coop. The ladies would be happy to share their delicious eggs with you. We want our guests to feel at home when they stay with us. Come visit and see for yourself!
It is so fun when you experience something where everything about it was so far above and beyond what would be acceptable! This cozy getaway is lovely. Jenny is a born nurturer and many 5 star hotels could take some lessons from her :-). The fresh eggs were beyond anything I've ever experienced in civilized western society - my son who doesn't even eat eggs couldn't get enough of them - she totally took extra care because we were wiped keeping up with my son's intensive swimming workshop. Adjectives that come to mind are cozy, comfortable, natural, organic, beautiful and happy :-)
So very glad I found Gunksview while looking for a place to prepare for and recover from the SOS Triathlon. Its perfect location is only a short drive away from Main Street in New Paltz, SUNY New Paltz, the Ulster County Fair Grounds, Minnewaska State Park, and Mohonk Mountain House. Both Franky and Jenny were friendly and generous hosts. Jenny (and Guapo, her friendly, rescued yellow lab) greeted us upon arrival and she gave us a thorough introduction to the studio and all of its amenities. It was very cozy and clean and had everything we needed during our stay. We especially appreciated the fresh fruit, eggs, and apple cider as well as her suggestions for places to eat (The Brauhaus!) and to trail run (Undercliff & Overcliff at Mohonk Preserve, including passes!). The biggest surprise was returning from the SOS Tri, depleted and sore, to discover a gift of wind chimes with flowers and a thoughtful note of congratulations! While the awesome rainhead shower and comfy robe were wonderful luxuries after almost 7 hours of cycling, running, and swimming, I do regret not having had enough time to enjoy the saltwater pool. Should we ever find ourselves traveling to The Gunks in the future, we would love to stay here again!
We had a wonderfully relaxing vacation! Cottage is adorable and very well equipped, Frank and Jenny are so nice, and helpful in every way! They even continuously supplied us with fresh tomatoes from their garden, eggs from their chickens, as well as fresh picked fruit! Pool is delightful and private. Would recommend to anyone!
The loft was so cute , clean and had everything we needed for our stay while we explored the nearby mountains. Jenny and Franky were very sweet and even left fresh local eggs, milk, apples, apple cider, and a bottle of wine for us. Jenny also offered us muffins in the morning. She gave us some good suggestions, as well. The property was in a convenient location to all of the sights and I loved sitting out on the deck in the morning and after our hikes. I would definitely recommend a stay here!
We stayed two nights and it wasn't enough! Our hosts provided all the comforts of home, including fresh eggs from their chickens (which we don't get at home)! Clean , comfy and close to the cliffs and the Brauhaus! What more could we want? Will definitely be back!
Spent a few days here to unwind and it was perfect. Franky and Jennifer were very friendly and helpful and the place was great. It had all the essentials plus a TV with a nice selection of movies via netflix which we didn't use too much because the weather was perfect. We hung out in the nearby parks and town during the day and grilled food out on the deck in the evenings. Would definitely consider going back when we have the chance.
