If you are looking for a beautiful vacation home just 4 miles from the entrance of Wintergreen Resort or you'd like to enjoy all the natural beauty that the Blue Ridge Mountain region has to offer, or maybe just looking for some peace and quiet, this is the place for you. But if you are looking for a hi-tech home and wireless internet, that's not us! But we did just install the Family package from DISH Networks! And unlike so many rentals at Wintergreen Resort, this home is wheelchair friendly with an easily accessible ramp into the back of the house.
This house boasts a completely new, full kitchen with new electric appliances and freshly painted walls throughout the home. Come enjoy the cozy stone fireplace with an electric log insert (just push the button on the remote control...no lugging messy wood).
Our house has over 1,500 square feet. August of 2013 we've renovated the layout enabling a much larger dining area with a french door out to the deck. We still are able to offer a lovely master bedroom that still has 2 comfortable twin beds pushed together to make a King size bed, while the second bedroom has a lovely, antique double bed. We also have twin beds ready for the kids in the loft that is accessible by a very unique, and safe, attached ladder. The full size laundry room has a large capacity Kenmore washer and dryer.
We are just a half mile from The Ski Barn and Devils Backbone Brewery/Restaurant, so you can pick up your rental skis without waiting in the long Rental lines on the mountain or enjoy some of Virginia's favorite brew just down the street from this property. Nearby Stoney Creek, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Rockfish River, Sherando Lake, George Washington National Forest, and The Appalachian Trail, makes this home away from home the perfect location!

We enjoyed our time in the cottage. It's located down the mountain of Wintergreen Resort (about 15 minutes), which makes it convenient when you want to go out to eat or any grocery shopping. My partner and I have limited physical abilities and have to use electric scooters to get around. The house has a ramp to get in the back door and another ramp between different levels of the house. It works. Master bathroom has grab bars. The house also has a cute loft bedroom upstairs accessible by the ladder that my little daughter greatly enjoyed. Kitchen has everything you need if you are in the mood for cooking, at least some little breakfast.
The owner is very responsive and is there for you if you have any questions.
Good time in the country and doing Adaptive skiing in Wintergreen! We liked it!
This cozy cottage was perfect for a weekend ski trip. The owner provides everything you will need. Two rooms each with a king or queen bed and then two twin beds up in a loft. 20 minutes up the mountain to the resort parking, and a half mile from Devil's Backbone brewery.
1st time guest of "Foxfire" and now hope to be a future guest as well. The cottage's has plenty to offer even if it's not a 5 star inn and doesn't have internet service. The convenience to 151 and Wintergreen is well worth the stay, and then once you find how clean kept the cottage/grounds are, you'll be back as well. Thank you again for allowing my family to use the cottage along with our Lab. We all enjoyed our stay.
I booked this place because prices on the mountain were out of my range for a holiday week. The location is PERFECT! It is literally down the road from the Ski Barn where I rent skis, and a stone's throw from Devil's Backbone. While the cottage had a huge yard, there was not much that enticed my boys to get outside. However, this was remedied by a night out at Devil's Backbone. They have fire-pits and a fenced in yard where kids (of parents who need time to chill) gather to play tag, throw a football, or hang out at the tables to charge their electronics :-). The down (and yet plus) side of the cottage is the lack of internet access. That turned out to be a plus because after the initial griping (I came prepared for this but oops, forgot to mention to my boys), they embraced family TV time (the cabin has satellite and an abundance of channels!). The cabin was fully, and I do mean fully, equipped. I am used to resort stays where you have to bring all of your amenities. But if I had forgotten something, it sure was available had I needed it! From sugar to laundry detergent, I was super impressed by all that was made available to guests! Never had I stayed in a place so well equipped. Come prepared, but know if you forget something, it's probably there. The beds were really comfortable, and offered spaciousness for our family of four. The bedrooms are spread out, so if you have very little children who need to be close by, this might be an issue to think ahead about. I also had not seen such an abundance of cutlery and dishes since I had stayed in a lodge suited for several families. The decorations are a bit country-ish in nature, but is to be expected for a country cabin! The owner of the cabin was excellent at communicating quickly and offered excellent customer service. Wintergreen offers a lot of activities in the summer, specifically Lake Monocan (buy a family pass and use this cabin as a base!!), and this cabin is going to be amazing in the summer. I loved the view of the mountains out the windows. I am 100% going to be staying at this cabin again in the future.
If you are looking for a 4 star place, this is not that. But let me tell you this place is a great location (close to all the wineries, breweries, wintergreen, and trails) and has everything that you could possibly need. There is plenty of space , it's clean, and well maintained. I can't wait to see the new addition of the pergola over the deck when it's finished. Marge was attentive and quick to make sure that we were happy with everything in the home. Hands down, I would recommend this place to anyone and my boyfriend and I are already trying to plan our next visit back.
Our family arrived Christmas Day to cook dinner and enjoy spending time with family nearby. A spacious house with full kitchen, dining, living room and more to stretch out. Comfortable bedrooms. Enjoyed walking along the Rockfish River trail with our labrador, and eating local at wild wolf brewing company. Marge was very easy to contact and responded quickly when I locked myself out.
