Right in the Center, with Cathedral Views

Located in the historic core of the city (declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site) this beautiful stone house has been in the family for generations and has been carefully renovated in keeping with its original charm. This spacious apartment occupies the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the house, contrasting the restored historical features of the house with all the perks of a new renovation. Newly finished hard-wood floors and exposed stone work can be seen throughout. On the second floor you will find an ample living room, a new eat-in kitchen and a spacious new bathroom with a walk-in shower. The house's original stone hearth has been preserved and incorporated into the new kitchen. It's fully-equipped with range, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, microwave and all the cookware, cutlery, etc needed for preparing home-cooked meals. The living room, featuring original stone alcoves, is furnished with a large sofa that converts into a bed for 2 persons, a large expandable dining table, and wide-screen HDTV. Take the stairs up to the next floor of the house, passing old family photos spanning 5 generations, and you will find two spacious bedrooms. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and views of the Cathedral, while another bedroom has a queen size bed, a comfortable sofa and exposed stonework. Go up one more floor and you will find a sunny loft, with a sofa that doubles as a bed as well as 2 individual beds that can be placed together for couples. Curl up on the sofa with a good book, or peep out of the skylight for unparalleled views of the Cathedral and rooftops of Santiago de Compostela! Guests will enjoy free wireless internet (wi-fi) and the house is equipped with a new heating and air conditioning system.

Situated in the heart of the monumental district on the lively Rua Nova – just step outside the house and you will be enveloped in the history of the city. Follow the way of St. James to it's final destination: the renowned pilgrimage site of the Catedral de Santiago. Wander the lively stone streets under arcades and through enchanting passageways, through beautiful parks and secluded cloisters, to discover the many wonders of the city. As you go for a stroll you can enjoy typical music of the region offered by musicians on the surrounding streets and plazas. An amazing array of restaurants, cafes, shops, museums, bars, markets are just outside the door so you can easily sample the vibrant life of this city! And if you fancy a day trip, Galicia offers destinations galore: from exploring big cities and charming towns, to trekking through mountain trails and virgin forests, visiting solitary lighthouses atop dramatic sea-side cliffs or soaking in the sun on the coast's unspoilt beaches – you can have it all within a half hour's drive. If you have your own car, a public parking garage is just 2 minutes from the house under the Plaza de Galicia.

Nos quedamos en este piso maravilloso unas 4 noches y lo recomendamos para los que quieran quedarse en el centro del casco viejo de Santiago. La ubicación es ideal y el piso es muy limpio y cómodo. Fue fabuloso quedarnos en pleno casco viejo. Fue muy fácil conseguir las llaves y entrar en el piso y la anfitriona fue muy servicial y respondió inmediatamente a nuestras preguntas y necesidades. El piso tiene de todo: toallas, plancha, secador de pelo, lavadora para la ropa, papel de cocina, papel higénico; y el tener WiFi fue una comodidad importantísima. Sin duda nos quedaríamos allí otra vez. We stayed in this lovely apartment for 4 nights and we highly recommend it for those who want to be in the center of the historic part of Santiago. We found the location to be ideal and the space very clean and comfortable. It's great to be virtually in the middle of everything. Receiving the keys and getting into the apartment was very easy and the host was very accommodating and responsive. The WiFi was a definite plus.

What a lovely and spacious apartment! We were a family of 6 staying at this apartment and all of us felt really comfortable. Montse, whose English was good, met us at the apartment and showed us everything. Location is absolutely fabulous, so close to the cathedral and bars/restaurants. Every room was comfortable and well equipped. The free wifi worked really well. Our host took great care of all the small details. The response was instant. Really great value in a lovely apartment in a fascinating city. Totally recommended!!!!

Perfect stay in Santiago!

The most perfect location! Would love to stay for weeks! Beautiful, comfortable home with every amenity.

We were 3 adults and two kids and the apartment was perfect. We had enough space for everyone to feel comfortable. It all went very well since the beginning, the hosts were very quick in answering my messages and their friend Montse who welcomed us at the apartment was very nice. The house is very well located, 2 min walk to the cathedral and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes in the pedestrian roads nearby. It's a lovely and lively neighbourhood. The apartment was very clean and well equipped. We had a fantastic time and I highly recommend this place for a nice stay in Santiago!

Absolutely Miserable Stay in This Completely Misrepresented Apartment (stay 9 May to 19 May)

The only thing we can say good about this apartment was that the decor in the living room was pretty and the location in the old quarter was wonderful. Everything else was totally unsatisfactory.

There was no heat in the bathroom and the temperatures were in the 30s and 40s (F). There was constant construction off the bathroom and kitchen from 9AM to 9PM every day. The hot water tank was only as big as a toilet tank so we always ran out of hot water when showering.It only lasted 3 minutes! The shower drain was clogged and there was nothing to unclog it with. And, the caretaker we were to contact if we needed assistance did not answer our requests for help. The stairs were very long and steep and treacherous for the middle-of-the-night bathroom trips. Bathroom was on a different floor than bedrooms.

The entire apartment was moldy an triggered an allergic response so I became ill with an infection and had to take antibiotics. So I missed many days of vacation and had to remain sick in the moldy apartment.

There were no smoke detectors. And, there was lots of wood construction.

The butane tank supplying the gas for the stove and hot water heater ran out. There was no mention of this in the ad for the apartment. The new tank was down one flight of stairs on the landing. It was very heavy. It was all my senior-aged husband could do to drag it up all those stairs. Then we had to figure out how to unhook the old tank and hook up the new one. There was an internet site the owner mentioned in a piece of paper she had left as to how to do all this. The site did not work. We tried to get in touch with the contact person again but she did not respond. So we were left wondering what to do without causing a gas leak!

Who wants all this frustration, anger, and illness on vacation? We did not . We left the apartment early just to be out of this disastrous rental apartment.So we wound up paying double to stay somewhere else.

We would not suggest anyone rent this apartment. You can go camping for far less money or danger to your health.

Owner's Response: This review comes as quite a shock as the guests who rented the apartment during that time period indicated that they had been thoroughly satisfied with their stay. They emailed saying, and I quote, "It is a delightful place in a splendid location. Thank you very much" and "Our stay in Santiago has been terrific." Moreover, the statements made in the review do not correspond with the apartment or the time period. Temperatures in May were on average 65 degrees fahrenheit. The apartment is newly renovated and has no mold anywhere. There is no hot water tank but rather a heater which supplies a constant flow of hot water. We strive to provide all of our guests with a wonderful experience at a home that has been in our family for many generations and that we have painstakingly restored.

Spacious, comfortable apartment in perfect locatio

Our family of 2 adults and 2 children spent 2 weeks in this comfortable, clean, spacious apartment located in the heart of Santiago. The location was perfect and the apartment was very clean and simply but attractively furnished with everything we needed. There are so many wonderful eateries in town we didn't use the kitchen. Santiago is a festive place and the festivities can be heard very late into the night, which we found charming. The women who welcomed us were extremely warm and helpful (they didn't speak much English). An excellent base from which to explore Santiago.

The apartment occupies the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the house, there is no elevator. Deposit acts as security against any damage that might be caused to the apartment or furnishings during the stay. It will be refunded upon an inspection of the apartment, so long as the apartment is left in the same condition it was found. This is our family home, so guests are expected to treat it with respect and leave it in tidy and good condition on departure. Please remember that no smoking is allowed in the house and no parties or large gatherings are permitted. Only guests who form part of the reserved party can stay at the property. For stays longer than 2 weeks, the host reserves the right upon notice to enter the property for an inspection. By booking the apartment, the guests acknowledge that failure to observe these simple rules will result in termination of the stay and forfeiture of the rental fee. Check-in and out times are flexible if there are no other guests ending or beginning their stay on the same day, otherwise check-in is from 3pm onwards and check-out is at 10:30am. Check-in / check-out between the hours of 11pm-8am is subject to a 20€ surcharge. Cleaning service is available upon request during the stay for an extra fee.
