Once a traditional Portuguese family home, the recently renovated guesthouse ‘Casa do Jardim’ has been in the same family for more than 100 years. Keen to retain it's unique character and soul, we have kept many original objects, artefacts and memories in order to share a taste of the Portuguese culture and heritage with our guests.
‘Casa do Jardim’ is divided into 7 comfortable rooms: 2 bedrooms each with a double bed; one office with a sofa bed and a writing desk; a cosy day room with single bed; a living room with a TV and small DVD library; a dining room; a kitchen that comes with dishwasher and washing machine; WC and shower room. In the outdoor patio area, our guests can enjoy the Algarve’s fantastic sun, and with an open air shower on the decking, can cool down when needed. ‘Casa do Jardim’ is equipped with linen, crockery and all the necessary equipment that will make it your perfect holiday home. Free Internet/Wi-Fi available in the whole house.
‘Casa do Jardim’ borders a square of great beauty, facing a church from the 15th century, which is surrounded by jacarandas in the Municipal Garden. There are cafes and a supermarket by the square, and ‘Casa do Jardim’ is only 5 min walk from the old town, where all the stores and the Market are located. The city has a sports centre and swimming pool, leisure facilities and cultural buildings.
Silves is a city of unique beauty, built over many centuries - occupied in turn by Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and Christians - all of whom have left their visible marks. With a great historical heritage, the Castle (a military fortification unique in the country), the Medieval Bridge, Cathedral, Church of the Martyrs, Cruz de Portugal, Museum of Archaeology and its one of a kind Almohad cistern are all national landmarks. Silves had its peak during the Moorish occupation, becoming the capital of the Garb Al Andaluz and to honour those days of greatness, every year in the summer, a week-long medieval festival is held.
The 'concelho' of Silves stretches from the mountains (where its 3 larg dams are located) to the sea, and the town of Silves itself lies only 14 kms away from its fantastic beaches. In a privileged geographical situation in central Algarve, is easy to reach any other places of interest by car, bus or train, making it a perfect base from which to explore the whole of the Algarve. Faro International Airport to Silves takes around 45 minutes by car, and a drive to Lisbon is around 2h30.
We are Rosario and Antonio, a cheerful couple - with many friends that share our love for the arts, sport and gastronomy - and we love to meet new people and other cultures. We were both born in Silves and have spent our lives here, and throughout our careers we have had the opportunity to know this beautiful town even better - and that’s the knowledge we want to share with our guests.
As we live in the house upstairs, we are available to assist our guests with our extensive local knowledge, offering and/or suggesting services.
Maria do Rosário Boal Pontes purchased this house in 1900
Our family (Americans, 2 adults, 2 college age children) have stayed in about 10 VRBO's (US, Spain, Portugal, Germany) and this was by far the most enjoyable experience we have had. The owners (Rosario and Antonio) greet you upon your arrival and provide you with a quick tour of the house. They provided us fresh strawberries, Oranges, Lemons, Figs, Fresh home made lemonade, homemade jam, eggs and milk and the best orange cake I have ever had. The place is immaculate, decorated with lots of memorabilia about the town of Silves and the Algarve coast. They have maps, books of the surrounding areas and the town of Silves is pretty special as well. We walked to dinner each night and the people in the town were super friendly to us. Rosario is quite an interior decorator and also an excellent cook. She even gave us a gift (fresh cookies) when we left in the morning. This was the last leg in our two week journey (Amsterdam, Madrid, Marbella, Seville, Silves) and my only regret was that we only spent 3 nights in Silves. If you want a special, authentic Portuguese experience, then this home and the town of Silves is for you!
We had a wonderful stay at Casa do Jardim. The house was exactly as described, charming and full of character. We arrived to a warm welcome from the hosts Rosario and Antonio. We were delighted to find that they had stocked up the fridge with some local produce. The home made lemonade was very refreshing after a day on the beach and Rosarios homemade orange pudding was fantastic! (So nice we asked for the recipe to take home!).
The house was immaculate. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything that we needed.
We enjoyed reading about the history of the house and looking at all the unique decorations.
The house itself is in a brilliant location, perfect for exploring Silves and only a short walk from some fantastic restaurants. It's also a great location for exploring the Algarve we visited some great beaches and had a fun time at slide and splash!
We had had a great week at this lovely house and would not hesitate to recommend it. Thanks again Antonio and Rosario.
Casa do Jardim is absolutely charming - a beautifully restored village house, filled with historical memorabilia and possessions of the owner who was born there. It is in a great location within walking distance of the castle, cathedral, shops and restaurants. And the owners have equipped it to a very high standard with barbecue, Nespresso coffee machine, orange squeezer, washing machine and dishwasher. But the main attraction is the owners themselves - Rosario and Antonio who could not have done more to make us welcome. From the wine, melon and home made cake in the fridge when we arrived to the home made biscuits we took away with us, Rosario and Antonio want their guests to be comfortable and to have a good stay.
