Photos and Description of this holiday cottage in Rhinebeck - Cook's Pond House

Come for a tranquil visit to the Hudson Valley!

Situated well off the road in a country setting on a corner wooded and park-like setting of 5 acres, my guest cottage is spacious, (the main room is 18' x 18') fully furnished with a queen size bed, and has a fully equipped separate galley kitchen and bath. The cottage has slate counters and floors in the kitchen and bath, and a working corner wood stove. Located about 7 miles from the center of Rhinebeck or Red Hook, 4 miles from Omega Institute, about 10 - 15 minutes to Bard College, 6 miles to the Taconic Parkway. As a studio, it is really suitable for 1 or 2 guests only. Off street parking, handicap accessible, best bang for your buck in Rhinebeck. My house is also on the property but the angle between the main house and the guest house still allows for very good privacy. Please note that there is a large stand-in slate shower with great water pressure, but there is no tub. There is a beautiful pond on the property as well partially visible from the cottage. This is a great area for walking, hiking, biking and driving around.

About merri cook

I live on the property so I am here to assist you with anything you need during your stay. My house is situated about 50 feet from the guest cottage but because of the angle of the two building's location, there is still privacy between the house and guest house. I have just listed the cottage for the first time on Homeaway, starting March 1 2015, so I have very few reviews, but everyone who has ever stayed in the cottage has loved it.

merri cook purchased this cottage in 1999

Why merri cook chose New York

privacy, serenity, quiet country park-like setting, yet close to the many historic sites in the Hudson Valley

What makes this cottage unique

Enjoy the country quiet while still being close to all of the sights and attractions of Rhinebeck and the Hudson Valley. My property is very pretty and neighboring homes are only remotely visible only in the winter. When the trees fill in, privacy is excellent as I am on a corner wooded lot. There is a nice 5 mile loop on a side road that even has sections where the road is still dirt, not paved! That's the country for you! There are friendly neighbor dogs and cats who we do not allow in the guest house, but who are pleasant visitors.

Cozy, comfy, quiet

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Merri's guest cottage. Merri was out of town during our stay, but we talked by phone before our arrival, and she was also available by phone, text, and email in case we needed anything during our stay (we didn't). The cottage is roomy and the bed is very comfortable. The kitchen is nicely equipped with everything needed for meal preparation, although we ate our meals in Rhinebeck and elsewhere. Being in the country, the nights were quiet. The weather was cool and rainy while we were there; there is a wood stove, but we were comfortable with the space heater that is provided. Rhinebeck is just a short drive away, and we found some good restaurants there. It was also an easy drive to other points of interest in the area: the Vanderbilt Mansion, FDR Home and Library, and others. The mid-Hudson Valley is beautiful, and Merri's cottage was the perfect home base for exploring it.

Lovely cabin with lovely surroundings - a must stay for a visit to Omega Institute etc...

  • 5 of 5

This is a well-appointed and well-equipped cabin in a beautiful part of Rhinebeck. It was larger and more beautiful than I was even expecting. It was very convenient to Omega Institute, where I was attending a workshop, and plan to stay there again in the near future. The cabin and the grounds are just lovely and Mary was very helpful in every way - from making sure I could find the cabin late at night to sending me items I accidentally left behind. This is a true GEM!

Quiet, private but not too remote.

  • 5 of 5

Excellent value for location. Lives up to its claim of being private, quiet, clean and cute. Less than 10 minutes from the Omega Institute. The owner lives next door and while I didn't get a chance to meet her, was very accommodating in terms of arrival and departure times. The guest cottage has all the amenities required for a short or longer stay. I will return and would recommend to others.

Owner's Response: Thank you NC! I appreciate the mention on flexibility on arrival/departure times. If I have no one immediately before a guest or after a guest, I see no reason not to offer early arrival/late departure so that visitors can maximize their time in our area. Hope to see you next year!

Cozy, Clean and Quiet! Great Value!

This little cottage was just perfect for attending the NYS Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY. It's the right size for 2 people. It was very clean, comfortable and easy to find. Best of all, it was very quiet! I would highly recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review after your whirlwind weekend here! I should have asked for your booth number so I could stop by at the festival. Glad you enjoyed it!

Quiet Little Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We rented this studio cottage for a week & found its location absolutely perfect for us exploring the Hudson Valley. The little town of Rhinebeck is picturesque & has much to offer in shopping & dining. We had planned to visit Cooperstown, Hyde Park, West Point, Stockbridge & all were an easy, relaxing drive. The cottage was comfortable, & we found the kitchen well furnished for the nights we wanted to eat in. We will stay here again.
