About Jarlath & Loretta Cooke
We are local to the area and have a lot of family living in this part of the countryside.
Why Jarlath & Loretta Cooke chose County Galway
We wished to be able and come visit this unique and beautiful part of the world when ever we wanted. We rebuilt this home from new to replace an old house. We finished it to a modest standard for our own enjoyment and use. Its our home away from home.
What makes this House unique
We stay in the Beach House to get away from it all. The home is extremely comfortable and quiet with all mod cons. We just love to kick back and relax, read, cook, or just take leisurely quiet walks to the beach. We have yet to take a walk and not spot something new or see something from a different vantage point. If you want quiet and peaceful this is the spot and yet you are still within a stones throw of many activities. Sometimes you may pass a local that is only to happy to pass the time of day with you and fill you in on all the local news and activities.
Exceeded our expectations
Jarlath and Loretta met us on arrival at their home. They gave us a warm welcome, including a basket of goodies. They gave us a lot of information about the house and the surrounding area.
It was evident the hard work and thought that Jarleth and Loretta put into making this home so comfortable. It is in a very peaceful area.
Our group was a family of 8 adults. The house is large enough to accommodate such a large group comfortably. The only issue we had was with running short on hot water for showers on our first morning. Jarleth and Loretta did caution us about this on our arrival. So from that point on, we paid more attention to shower and laundry times. I only mention this so future large groups know it's something they need to think about.
It's only about a 10 minutes drive to Clifden, where you will find many shops, restaurants and 3 different grocery stores. Connemara National Park and Sky Loop are a short drive from the home. A little longer drive brought us to the Quiet Man Museum and Glengowla Mines. Unfortunately, many of the boat tours in the area were not running at the time of our visit due to high winds.
I would definitely stay at this home again in the future.
Great hosts and wonderful house
We stayed for a month. Loretta and Jarlath made us feel at home
and were easy to reach at all times. Home is spacious and all rooms
have private baths making it a great place for a group. The area is
beautiful with lots of sights to see nearby. Easy walk to 2 beaches.
Lots of wonderful memories!
Wonderful property beautiful location charming people
The house was truly excellent in a great peaceful location with everything we could need, it was clearly well thought out and Jarlath and Loretta certanily made you feel welcome and couldnt have been more considerate.
As for the location it was exactly as portrayed on the website with lovely beaches and places to visit.
We would return at the drop of a hat.
Fantastic house in wonderfully quiet, green corner of Connemara.
Superb accommodation...well stocked kitchen. Four spacious bedrooms all ensuite. The house was immaculately clean and well maintained. Spacious garden...BBQ patio. Quite simply the best holiday house we have encountered on our travels across Europe. We met the owners on arrival and enjoyed talking to them..they were passionate about Ireland, the West and the local environment. Loretta gave us lotsof tips for sightseeing, dining etc . It helped that the weather was superb but even if it had rained everyday, this house was the perfect base for touring and walking. A big thank you to Jarleth & Loretta. We would like to return in a couple of years. TIP: if you need a taxi phone Daniel Ryan possibly the friendliest wittiest taxi driver in Ireland!!
A perfect holiday. What a house!
Peter and Angela it was our pleasure having you as guest in our home. We're delighted you and your family, all had a wonderful week. We aim to provide the level of comfort, service and cleanliness that we would expect ourselves. We want our guest feeling refreshed and relaxed when leaving.
We would be delighted to have you stay again in the future.
Comfortable and well located to explore Connemara
Jarlath and Loretta were responsive, their home was spotless and very comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large and we enjoyed to open floor plan and nice yard. My family gave a carrot or two too many to the horse next door! I would recommend the Rossleague Hotel for dinner, it was an amazing meal (make reservations).
Perfect spot for our Connemara getaway
Thanks to the Cooks' warmth and friendliness, and their care in creating a marvelous home for visitors, our party of 5 (1 senior, 2 adults, 2 older teens) enjoyed a perfect 6 days in Moyard, County Galway. From our earliest communications, the Cooks were generous and responsive to my queries - and when they offered to meet us in town to guide us personally along the back roads to their lovely home, I knew that their spirit of hospitality was above and beyond. Loretta gave us our orientation - and had left us a welcome of homemade soda bread and other local treats to fortify us for our adventures.
What a thoughtful rearchitecture of an early 20th century family home: space for all and then some, with graciously proportioned public spaces, and a private bath for each spacious bedroom. The garden was similarly spacious - tons of room for pickup soccer games and running around with the neighbor's horse, who was more Golden Retriever in character than horse - we lost our hearts to him! The house was a perfect jumping off point for beautiful, peaceful walks to multiple beaches down lovely lanes lined with fuchsia hedgerows and the distant sounds of sheep and cows. As remote in feeling as the Cooks' home is, the town of Clifden, with its many restaurants, shops, bookstores, etc. is only a 10-min drive away, and we ventured easily and enjoyably from our home base all over County Galway and beyond. My husband and I fell in love with this part of Ireland 20 years ago and were absolutely delighted to be back. I'm grateful to Loretta and Jarlath for the abundance and comfort they provided my family and me on our visit.
Wow, thank you for the wonderful review. We are always delighted when our our guest enjoy our home and discover the beauty of this area.
