Perfect weekend stay

  • 5 of 5

The Cleveland House is ideal for a relaxing weekend stay. The house and grounds are beautiful, with thoughtful touches throughout the house. There were plenty of towels and blankets for those who wanted extra. There was enough of space for our group of 12 to comfortably enjoy dinner together in the dining room. This was a much nicer, homier option that being divided up into groups of 2 in a hotel. Everyone in the group was delighted with the charming antiques throughout the house and the creek out in the yard. We will definitely try to stay here again when we are back in town.

A Lovely Place for our Writing Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This accessible, beautiful and spacious old home was a wonderful spot for a scenic writing retreat. Our group had more than enough space to settle in, get cozy, and find space to write. When it was time to gather as a group, we could easily come together around the large dining room table or gather in the comfy living room. We had a variety of special needs among us, and the space accommodated all of them. I really appreciated that the owner respected our privacy and all our questions were answered in the house guidelines book.

The owners had more than the essentials available like coffee and tea, and a bit of breakfast food. There were games and puzzles available when we needed a writing break. And when we had a somewhat serious issue at the house, the owner not only took care of it immediately, but went above and beyond to make sure we were accommodated appropriately. You can tell the owners truly understand hospitality and know how to take good care of their renters. I highly recommend The Cleveland House!

Great Property for Family

  • 5 of 5

This property is beautiful, spacious, well stocked and well maintained. It is just minutes from Notre Dame's campus. We had 9 family members together for graduation and the property had plenty of space for everyone. Dave provided water, juice, and bagels for our initial breakfast needs, which was a nice touch. The house and grounds are exactly as described. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.

Well-equipped for a retreat site

  • 4 of 5

Great space, beds, dining space, and common areas, and with a little old-house style. We had a retreat with 13 people overnight. Very pleasant property with a backyard worth a short walk. There's also a very new paved path just east of the driveway that is good for a morning run, if one is into that kind of thing. What keeps this from being a five-star? Not much. It's really a 4.5 star. The house is right next to the highway, so for some, the road noise might be too much. The couch bed is in an area that doesn't close off, and a couple beds (the obvious ones for kids) might not fit taller adults. Some wall plugs are 2-prong, not 3, so that can require some re-arrangement for any A/V equipment, as for our retreat, but we worked it out. So what I'm saying is, this place is nearly perfect. Bring your party and enjoy.

Location

Notre Dame is the biggest attraction of our community, with a beautiful campus and ivy-league architecture, top-tier sporting events and world class concerts. This college town is also home to Bethel College, St. Mary's College, Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) and Ivy Tech. But, don't discount the fun of Amish Acres' shows and the flea markets of Shipshewana, South Bend Chocolate Factory, and our own South Bend Cubs minor league baseball team! About 45 minutes away is New Buffalo, MI, where you can enjoy the entertainment at "Four Winds Casino Resort" and cap off the day with a beautiful sunset in Lake Michigan. Wine country of southwest lower Michigan, and Fernwood Botanical Gardens (Niles) are just a short drive away! Canoe the St. Joseph River or kayak South Bend's East Race. The Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend attracts major concerts and off-Broadway shows, and is home to the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. Elkhart is the recreation vehicle capital of the world and is home to the RV/Motor Home Hall of Fame and Conference Center, as well as Wellfield Botanical Gardens. One of the best regional zoos in the country has its home in South Bend's Potawatomi Park Zoo. Did you know that the Studebaker automobile was built right here in South Bend? Visit the Studebaker Museum, and dine at Tippecanoe Place, the former Studebaker mansion! You won't be disappointed. If outlet mall shopping is your thing, visit Michigan City for the "Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets" mall. South Bend is also home to the festive River Lights, an interactive light sculpture across the bridge on St. Joseph River, is the newest addition to the list of things to do and see. They were introduced in honor of SB's 150th birthday in 2015.
