The place was awesome. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Can’t wait to go back
Great vacation spot!
We had a wonderful fall break vacation in this lovely home. Great for campfires, biking in the area and spending time together. The home fit us perfectly and Jamie was a very responsive and helpful host!
Wish I could have stated longer
Our stay was terrific. The house is very comfortable with gorgeous views of the lake. There were 12 people in our party and we managed just fine between the bunkhouse and the bedrooms. Only having 2 showers seems like it would be an obstacle but it too was ok. There was plenty of hot water! You’ll have to drive to everything, restaurants, shopping, etc but all are within 20 minutes or so including traverse city. The location makes a good hub for seeing the area. I’d recommend this house. It was a little cold to take advantage of all it has to offer but I’d imagine that spending some time on the lake would have been great too!
Thank you for the great review. I know the weather was not perfect for your stay but it sounds like you were able to enjoy some of the local offerings anyway. I hope that you are able to return!
Breathtaking views and charming home
Perfect for my family/close friends for a low key bachelorette weekend for my sister. We were so close to the Leelanau wineries and Hoplot as well! The house had plenty of space and lots of towels, blankets etc. we absolutely loved the back deck area and dock on water. Could use another bathroom for the apartment above garage tough with 11 women...overall amazing and would stay here again and again! Thank you!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay! I hope you can visit again. Thanks for taking wonderful care of my home!
Could Be 5 Stars, as is 3.5
On the positive side, this property has a beautiful backyard, with a stunning sunset view over the lake, a fire pit, dock with kayaks and a paddle board, swing and a large deck. It’s also in a great location with easy access to many wineries, Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City. Also, when we found there were no 9x13 pans at the house, the owner had two delivered in 2 days. We give the house itself mixed reviews.
The house is as pictured, so this next comment is to point it out: be aware there is no indoor dining table. I don’t know where groups eat in the winter, if they cannot utilize the deck picnic table. There’s a four seater high top in the kitchen and a couple of bar seats. Our family likes to play cards and board games at night so this was a drawback. We ate family dinners in the dark at the picnic table. We felt one of the two living areas could be used as a large dining room and it would be a huge improvement.
Also, as others have pointed out, no bathroom in the garage apartment. Some of our group had to cancel and we didn’t use those beds but it would have been an issue. The owner points this out up front.
I don't make these last comments lightly, knowing this is a business but we made the owner aware and pretty much just got a "thanks" for telling her. This is fixable, but the house flat out needs a good cleaning. The bathrooms, kitchen surfaces and beds/bedding were clean but that’s about it. We had a toddler with us and spent our first hour at the house sweeping cobwebs and dirt out of the corners and from under tables so she didn’t get into them. But we did not get the cobwebs off the ceilings and walls. We moved a couch up to a coffee table to play a game and found a bunch of broken glass under the couch. We found a swimsuit under the Master bed and a sweatshirt behind a MBR chair, both presumably from previous tenants. And, if we went barefoot in the house, our feet were black. I don’t know if the house is showing end of summer wear but for the cost and the cleaning fee, one should reasonably expect some mopping and dusting and moving of furniture in the cleaning process. I want to emphasize that we are not clean freaks, we just felt all of it collectively was way beyond the norm for a rental. One of these in isolation would not be as comment worthy but by the end of the week we felt kind of grimy.
All in all we did have a great vacation but will probably stay elsewhere on our next trip to Michigan.
Well, this is a first for me. In the 4 years I have had vacation rentals, this is my first non 5 star review. I am so sorry that you felt your vacation was not worth it & I would have gladly issued a partial refund had I known your disappointment. We corresponded many times throughout the week and though you did make me aware of a few issues listed above, you expressed "it is a beautiful house and we are enjoying! The backyard is spectacular!" The last correspondence stated "We had a great week, thanks! Loved the area. Thanks!"
I thought I tried my very best to accommodate all of your requests including shipping 2 pans to you as soon as you requested. There is no excuse for cobwebs and the missed items under furniture. I have since checked the work of my cleaning staff each week to ensure the highest level of cleanliness. I would have gladly sent my cleaning crew back out as soon as you arrived to make sure the house was cleaned to your standards. Yes, I do keep cleaning supplies like dishwashing pods & soaps under the sink for convenience to tenants but I can see how this would be a concern with a toddler.
My kitchen does seat 11 in 3 cozy areas as seen on my photo gallery. However, there is no large dining table indoors. I do not rent as much in the winter so I designed the seating areas based on outdoor gatherings with seating for well over 20 on beautiful summer days & nights. So I apologize that you had to eat in the dark outside but there is ample canned lighting in the overhang near the outdoor table as well as numerous candles that I provide for all tenants. The 2 living rooms have been one of the highlights for many guests as some like to gather and watch tv in the 1st large living space while others in the group may wish to cozy up with a blanket by the wood burning fireplace and play some of the many board games I provide.
Regarding a bathroom in the bunkroom, it is possible but not easy to winterize in the harsh conditions northern Michigan faces. So again, I am sorry that this may have been an inconvenience for your guests who had to cancel.
In summary, I am very sorry for your experience as I do my absolute best to provide a memorable vacation for all guests. I take tremendous pride in my business and am very disheartened to receive a review like this.
Had all the amenities a family could wish for-kayaks, firepit, nice towels, big rooms, games, large outdoor seating area, garage
Lake Leelanau is a 22 mile long all sports lake. Boaters and fisherman take advantage of the beautiful scenery and world class fishing. Leland and Fishtown are must see areas that are accesible by boat. Walk to the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan to view the Manitou Islands. A short drive past several winery's to nearby Sutton's Bay is a perfect family trip. Many restaurants and shops as well as a movie theater offer options for all. Adults can enjoy a multitude of winery's the Leelanau penninsula is known for.
