It was beautiful, quiet and restful!

  • 5 of 5

People at the marina were friendly and always willing to help. Went sailing with Capt Paul and had a great time. Yacht was spacious and very clean. Hardest decisions we made all week were where we were going to eat!! We had a great time!

Owner's Response: Always good to hear when guests had a great time. Glad you found Northern Cross spacious for 4 adult guests. You learned one great thing about the Keys beyond all the great water activities - it is also an amazing place for dinner! The choice is pretty much endless and many of the water-side restaurants have live entertainment nightly so it's really more than dinner, it's a whole night out! All the best for future travels. Rick

Northern Cross vacation

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous time we had on the Northern Cross. We had never stayed on a boat before and it was a wonderful experience especially under the care of Captain Paul! The boat was roomy, clean and comfortable and happy hours at the Tiki Hut while barbecuing was such fun. We met new friends who we hope to see again on our next visit!

Owner's Response: Great to see that even "first time boaters" love to stay on Northern Cross. I think about 75% of our guests have never done a "live-aboard" before and like you, they are pleasantly surprised. The Tiki Hut is one of the many things that makes Bluewater Marina special. Not only a great place to BBQ, you will meet some of the local residents who are always happy to give you advice about things to do and places to go. Captain Paul is also "at-the-ready" to take guests out on one of his Keys adventures - like a sunset cruise! Glad you loved you stay. Rick

Relaxation, relaxation and relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

We live in Denver and vacation in the Keys every other year. We decided we needed a break from the winter cold of CO and headed South to thaw out. From the moment we arrived until we left, we LOVED staying aboard the 42 ft Catalina sailboat. So much so that it inspired me to sign up for the ASA 101 sailing class! We spent most days diving and then returned "home" to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail in the cockpit. The boat was very comfortable, spacious, and clean; well stocked with everything you might need and had a nice interior with wood finishing. The marina is quiet, with friendly neighbors, ample parking, clean facilities/showers, free books (I left one to add to the collection), coin operated washer/dryer, ice machine, tiki hut and a picnic area. We fell in love and are inspired to buy our own sailboat!! Thank you for an unforgettable experience Rick and Capt. Paul!

Owner's Response: Really appreciate your review. You nailed all the highlights! There is something so right about staying on a boat when visiting the Keys but I think you may be the first one to get enough of an inspiration to take sailing lessons. A perfect compliment to diving (or snorkeling), paddling, swimming with dolphins and lots of other things to do on the water. We take pride on how clean the boat is kept for our guests. Glad we earned 5 stars from you! Rick

Owner's Response: A vacation with spice! LIKE IT. Glad to see you had a great time. It's one of the few short term rental places in the Keys where you can go swimming right off the back of the boat then shower off as you climb back into the cockpit and settle in to a relaxing appetizer and cocktail (no alcohol if driving please!) then head out for a meal at any one of literally hundreds of great restaurants or create your own BBQ sensation just steps away up at the Tiki Hut at the marina. Does it get any better than this?

When you want to upgrade from waterfront.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided to take a long weekend and visit in January. The boat is clean and well equipped, (we brought our own Kuerig and blender). The ability to stay on the water to eat, sleep, relax and drink Piña Coladas was remarkable. We also used the back of the boat to launch our paddle board and to snorkel. The water was slightly cold but bearable. I would have snorkeled more but I saw a few jellyfish and didn't want to push my luck. The restrooms and showers at the marina were immaculate. The owners and the marina residents were friendly and helpful.

We visited Lorelei, which we enjoyed, and Marker 88, which has the most spectacular view of sunsets on the Bay, (but just a bit more pricey!) We kayaked in the Tavanier Creek and explored the small creeks among the mangroves. We would recommend that to anyone!

My wife and I will certainly consider staying again when we are fortunate enough to head south next time.

Owner's Response: Great to read about you and your wife making the best of your long weekend on Northern Cross. Looks like you combined fun with a healthy dose of relaxation. Staying on a boat while visiting the Keys does that to you. Almost all of the jellyfish you see in the Marina are non-poisonous Moon jellies. Once you know how to recognise them (it's easy!), you can snorkel with complete confidence. Many people tell us they see more fish in the Marina than out at the reefs. You also found out how enjoyable it is to paddle around the marina and adjacent canals in addition to exploring the many mangroves. It's just one of the many activities around the Keys that make for a great getaway. Also glad you found Lorelei's. It's a local favourite watering hole. If you plan to take in their sunset magician show make sure you get there early! We are always happy to have return visitors so hope to see you next year! Most people can,t get enough of the Keys in a single visit.

Excellent Accomodations!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week on Northern Cross. What an excellent experience to stay on a sailing yacht versus a hotel or condo. Tony and Rick were easy to work with and provided excellent information concerning their boat and all associated matters. The boat is in excellent shape. With 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, our family of 5 fit perfectly. And you can swim right from the back and rinse off at the outdoor shower. Captain Paul was the perfect neighbor and a great resource for the Keys. He even offers some cool outings via his powerboat. The marina owners, Jerry and Sandy, were most inviting. Clean showers and bathrooms, and a Tiki hut with grills available for cooking your catch. And the landscaping was amazing.

I can't say enough about this option.

Thanks All!

Sincerely,

Mike O.

Owner's Response: Thank you for such an upbeat review. Visiting the Keys is all about being on the water and meeting friendly people. Looks like you found both. The Tiki Hut is definitely the social hub of Bluewater Marina. Far better and less expensive to BBQ there than to go to an expensive restaurant. Glad you did some adventuring with Captain Paul. We find more and more of our guests take advantage of his "adventure list" exclusively available for our guests. One thing we talked about over the phone was seeing the dolphins swimming right off the back of our boat where you can swim. Now that was a real treat! I've seen lots of tarpon and a few manatees but so far haven't had the luck you had. Most of all, it was a pleasure to talk with you and hear personally how much your family enjoyed their stay on Northern Cross.
