Camping on a boat!

  • 4 of 5

My husband loved this, but as a woman it was not as attractive for me! We both enjoyed the people who live on the boats, cooking out and hanging around the tiki hut. I found the very narrow dock with no railings that you had to use to get on & off the boat intimidating! The bathrooms, laundry facilities and showers on shore were not far and were clean. The berth/beds are not very comfortable. After 2 weeks of sleeping on them, all had aching backs! (We are in our mid to late 60s). States it sleeps 6, but 4 of them would need to be small children to get that many on board! The residents here are mostly senior citizens who are amazing in the vitality and level of activity they engage in. This being said it is fairly quiet and not a good place for smaller children. The rear berths are very small and claustrophobic. We had 3 adults and that was fine. As you can imagine there is little storage space so the unused berth was great for luggage and extra stuff! We realized that it may have been a better choice to leave most of the luggage in the car, retrieving clothes as needed. Just taking things to the boat over that very narrow dock being part of the reason! The owners were great to work with. My husband conversed with both for various reasons during our stay. Not trying to discourage anyone but wanting you to be more aware of everything that is involved. A shorter stay would have been better for me though my husband was delighted!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very thoughtful review. A boat is definitely not a resort. If you are looking for a beach type vacation our boat is not for you. However if you have a sense of adventure and like to get out and do things you can go snorkeling at the reefs, take a glass bottom boat tour, go paddle boarding, swim with while dolphins, go on a sunset sailing cruise, try your hand a deep sea fishing, the list goes on! Kids love it on the boat (though we do ask that you verify they are good swimmers if under 12) especially since you’re u can swim to your heart,s content right off the back of the boat. There are nearby public beaches and swimming pools is that sit you more. Like 98% of other guests who stayed with us, if staying on a boat is appealing to you, you will like it here.

Was a trip filled with rich experiences and memories. Boat was a beauty and the gentle rock in the harbor made for some relaxing rest. These folks were great to do business with and would recommend this experience!!!

Our family of four had a great week on the Northern Cross!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoys slightly off the beaten path travels and this was perfect for a unique and memorable experience. Our teens loved having their own cozy and private berths. We all slept well. The boat is clean and well equipped. Highlights included coffee in the morning and sunset happy hours on the back deck! The property manager, Paul, is very helpful and friendly. He offers various charters for a reasonable fee and I wish we had booked something with him. Next time! The owners are very organized and thorough in all correspondence and sharing of information. The marina is nice and quiet with lots of friendly boaters. The washrooms and showers at the marina were very clean. The use of the communal bbq and tiki hut was a nice bonus. There is lots to do in the area. We enjoyed outings to nearby Founders Park which has a beautiful beach, Olympic size swimming pool, basketball & volleyball and tennis courts. There is also a community centre at Founders Park that runs yoga & exercise classes. There is a fee to get into the park. We went on a snorkelling trip and rented kayaks at John Pennekamp Coral Reef Park. We fed the tarpons at Robbie’s. Grocery stores, movie theatre are close by. We bought fresh seafood at Casa Mar nearby and grilled it on the bbq. A day trip to Key West is recommended also. Harry Harris beach is a few minutes from the boat, however it was still closed due to Hurricane damage. Our stay was a great balance of relaxing on the boat and exploring the area. A perfect family vacation with teenagers.

Owner's Response: It is impossible NOT to find a whole range of enjoyable things to do in the Keys. I totally agree that one of the highlights is our boat, the marina and the people you will meet at the Tiki Hut. Oh yes - you can swim til your heart is content right off the back of the boat. And lots of great restaurants and outside bars with music nightly.

The perfect Thanksgiving getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved "glamping" aboard the Northern Cross! The weather was perfect for our eco-adventures which included swimming in the marina in the morning and kayaking, paddle-boarding, parasailing and everything else you can imagine around the Keys in the afternoon courtesy of Paddle the Keys, Aquaholic Adventures and Sunset Watersports. We had heard that the Keys were still recovering from Hurricane Irma, but it wasn't an issue. We were able to do all of the things we originally planned, including feeding the taurpon at Robbie's and renting a boat from A1A Watersports to take out to Alligator Reef. We were able to snorkel at John Pennekamp, and all of the local restaurants we looked forward to, like Cafe Moka, What the Fish and our favorite, Marker 88, were open. Captain Paul was very helpful when it came to getting us all set up, and our boys really enjoyed camping both on deck and in the berths. Now that we have stayed on a sailboat, we can't imagine enjoying the Keys any other way! We highly recommend this experience to any adventure-loving family.

Owner's Response: OK, I simply cannot think of a better way to celebrate Thanksgiving (or any other occasion) than to stay on a boat in the Keys. I think you should put yourself up for hire as a Florida Keys trip planner! Add world class scuba diving to your list and you truly will have described a traveler's paradise. Thanks especially for your post-Irma plug. Everyone in the Keys has been working overtime to welcome people back and I am happy that for your family, we have succeeded!

Stellar time aboard northern cross

  • 5 of 5

Boat is in very fine condition. Quite comfortable. Marina is populated with a friendly and colorful cast of characters whom we enjoyed chatting with beneath the shade of the tiki hut. The cove in which the marina is located is quiet and calm. Capt. Paul met us checked us out on the boat systems and checked with us a couple of times during our stay to ensure all was going well. The boat owners, likewise, checked in with us to

Make certain all was as it should be. We enjoyed out stay aboard and highly recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: Glad to hear Northern Cross and the folks at Bluewaters treated you well. We make every effort to ensure the boat is just the way we would want it ourselves. Can't say enough about our manager, Captain Paul. He is always on top of things and is ready to help make sure your stay is an enjoyable one.

She has some hours on her and her own stories to tell but she is carefully maintained and very clean

  • 5 of 5

My step-daughter and 2 grandsons (15 & 12) stayed with me aboard for 5 nights. The boat served us very well for a home base. The marina is quiet but very friendly. Captain Paul was helpful. It was a wonderful spring break for all of us. My youngest grandson kept trying to find reasons to stay! I would highly recommend this property for a true Florida Keys low pressure vacation. Just bring swimming gear, flip flops, and a sense of humor! Thanks for sharing your boat with my family.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. Glad the boys had a wonderful time. Kids (and adults too) love swimming from the back of the boat. Many of our guests say they see more fish that way than going out to the reefs. Happy to have contributed to your family's spring break.
