About Cheryl M. Will

As a child in Port Angeles, I enjoyed many wonderful summer days on Lake Crescent. Now we are the happy owners of this lovely lakefront cabin, always in awe of the magnificent setting. We spend many hours walking the trails, kayaking, swimming, basking in the scenery.

We are both musicians, I having recently retired from teaching school music. My husband is an instrument maker, building beautiful harpsichords, and a nature photographer. He finds endless photo opportunities at the lake and all around Olympic National Park & the Olympic Peninsula. See our photo collection.

Cheryl M. Will purchased this cottage in 1994

Why Cheryl M. Will chose Olympic Peninsula

Our family found this stunning property in 1994. Little by little, we built this sweet cottage, completing it in 2005. Its setting is so remarkable & the outdoor opportunities so rich, we feel very fortunate.

What makes this cottage unique

Lake Crescent, 620' deep shimmering jewel, was carved by a huge glacier thousands of years ago. It rests within the northern borders of Olympic National Park, 20 miles west of Port Angeles, Washington on Highway 101. The pristine, crystal-clear lake quietly hugs steep mountain ridges, clad with ancient forests of western hemlock, Douglas fir, grand fir, & at the lower levels: moss-draped big leaf maples and alder.

Cottage on Lake Crescent is available to those who love a spectacular setting for an adventuresome or restful vacation.

We had the best time here. The cabin was exactly as described. The view was beyond words. We sat out on the lounge chairs almost every second we were there. None of the other neighbors were around. We had the whole cove to ourselves, except for a few deer and ducks hanging out with us. Everyone who sees my pictures wants to go there, too. The Lake Crescent Lodge has great food, and it's just a short walk away.

Breathtaking Views and Quaint Little Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Just spent our honeymoon at this perfect little cabin. It backs right up to the lake and has the most gorgeous views. We spent several days just relaxing, kayaking, hiking some of the nearby trails ( there is very short hike to a lovely waterfall that is walking distance from the cabin) and even swimming! We also took day trips to the coast and to Victoria Canada, which we highly recommend. There are a bunch of great restaurants in Port Angeles ( we recommend The Next Door Gastropub) and the Lake Crescent Lodge Restaurant was quite nice too. There are bunch of chairs to lay out in by the lake and read and a nice little fire pit. The cottage itself is the perfect size and simple but charming. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and we had no trouble cooking several somewhat complex meals. Everything was clean and in order when we arrived. We had the best time and we are so sad to be leaving!

Cabin with a View

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute of our mini vacation on Lake Crescent......hanging out by the beach, swimming, kayaking, hiking, and relaxing. Enjoyed viewing the deer in the morning, otters in the afternoon, and bats at night. Loved the location...spent time at Hurricane Ridge, ocean beaches, Salt Creek County Park, and Lake Crescent lodge. The Marion berry cobbler at the lodge is delicious! We highly recommend this cabin and hope to return in the future!

Amazing Location, BeautifulSetting

  • 5 of 5

The Lake Crescent Cottage was a great base for exploring the northern portions of the Olympic Peninsula. The setting is beautiful, and each sunset is a different experience to relish and enjoy. The bottle of wine we found upon arrival definitely added to the enjoyment.

The well equipped kitchen was perfect for preparing meals and the washer-dryer were a big plus for washing hiking clothes.

Being within a 10 minute walk to Lake Crescent Lodge and several nice hikes was convenient. Close proximity to Hurricane Ridge and Cape Flattery was a plus as well. Port Angeles was only a 30 minute drive if catching the ferry to Victoria & Vancouver Island.

The suggestions on things to do in the area and the cottage’s supply of hiking guides & other information on the area were excellent.

Choosing the Will’s Lake Front Cottage for a visit to Lake Crescent is something we’ll never forget and will recommend to family and friends.

Owner's Response: Yes, the setting is spectacular! In this 100th Anniversary Year of the National Parks, we think about Chris Morgenroth, who met with Franklin Roosevelt at the Lodge in 1937. Just a year later, FDR followed through with the establishment of Olympic National Park! The Morgenroth family cabin, originally a Ranger Station for the National Forest, is the tall turn-of the century cabin just down the cove. History at our door step! Thanks so much for your most gracious review!

Amazing lake views, great location, but...

  • 4 of 5

First, the good news. Location absolutely cannot be beat! Adjacent to Lake Crescent Lodge, near the end of a Dead End road, which makes for a quiet, nestled into the woods atmosphere, yet with easy access to the Lodge's conveniences (wifi, restaurant, boat rentals, etc). You are next to Storm King, so easy walk to Marymere Falls.

We had not been in the house 5 min, when we were greeted by a deer in the yard. We saw many more, practically a daily routine. I also saw a raccoon in the yard early one morning, so keep that in mind for small children.

Recommend stopping at Granny's diner (onion rings delish & they were selling ice cream cones like they were going out of style). 10 min east on 101.

The cabin, itself, boasts spectacular views of the lake - blown away! Our favorite activity was simply eating meals, drinking hot chocolate or tea, or reading a book, while taking in the view and listening to the waves lap the shore. VRBO was entirely accurate. I wish I could post pictures. You have two BRs, plus a sleeper-sofa. Wood stove warms the cold nights. The living room/dining room/kitchen all face the lake, plenty of windows and French doors. The bathroom and kitchen are both very clean and functional (even a towel warmer next to the shower). Kitchen had plenty of dishes and silverware, and dishwasher, as well as a full-size refrigerator/freezer, which was really nice. One thing to keep in mind, bring ALL of your food with you; the cupboards are bare, except for salt/pepper, and a few other seasonings. I should also mention that there was a bottle of wine waiting for us at our arrival. We are non-drinkers, but nonetheless appreciated the sentiment.

The owner, Cheryl, was phenomenal - replied to all inquiries w/in 24 hrs (usually much less). When I had a question about directions, she called to make sure I was comfortable. She also provided great info about local hiking trails in advance of our trip. The cabin has even more books with trail descriptions and maps. Bravo!

I would like to give a 5 star rating, but one negative was loud neighbors. After the first two nights of peace and solitude, they showed up with no less than 5 children, 2 dogs, and plenty of loud adults (yelling). The "fishbowl" feel with all the windows and strangers constantly in the yard was awkward. They walked through our backyard and beach, even though we were asked (per sign in Cabin) to stay off of their beach/dock -- show respect to get respect.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your detailed review. We enjoy our guests comments and are pleased that guests have a great time and enjoy the gorgeous setting. The Memorial Day Weekend extended family gathering next door, which is a rare and unusual event, must have been very frustrating. We apologize and will speak with them next time we see them, especially regarding the noise and children running in our area. We also will go back to taking holidays off our rental calendar. If you were to visit our guest reviews, you will see all are five stars - complimenting quiet, restful & great times at the cottage.

Loved It

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage on Lake Crescent is....let me just make a list: very clean, very comfortable, very cute and cozy, classy, organized, everything you might need/want is supplied, the view is unsurpassed, the list of things to do and places to see is extensive-the area is incredible-even the ocean is not TOO far away, the owners are great, helpful and responsive. We stayed three days, mainly to relax and row the lake; the time went way too fast, it was absolutely delightful and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.
