We live in a private association called Bell Island. We are surrounded by incredible views of Long Island Sound and Farm Creek Preserve and our beaches are reserved for use by residents and their guests only. Our home is on a tidal estuary called Farm Creek. The creek is fed by the Long Island Sound and the rear porch faces west for incredible waterfront sunsets. Bell Island is a private community and the perfect place to relax and unwind!
This unique home perched on the waters edge can comfortably sleep five. Guests have two private waterfront decks overlooking a garden with firepit and seating for four. The first floor deck has two loungers and a dining table that seats six. The third floor deck has two comfortable adirondeck chairs looking out over the water and enjoys views of the abundant wildlife of Farm Creek, a protected preserve. The view from the third floor is exceptional and our favorite place on the property. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee, evening cocktail, or sit with a laptop or tablet to work or hop on the internet. There is cable television in the living room and each bedroom and also air conditioning and wifi throughout the grounds. We usually see about two tide changes per day and at high tide you can launch one of our two kayaks or a paddle board right off the back deck. We live here year round but we feel like we are constantly on vacation : )
Another notable aspect of the property is a private courtyard between the house and the garage. The entire property is fenced in at the front of the house too, so it's set up to allow your dog to roam freely without worrying they will get into the street.
The first floor is an open format and very family friendly as you can always have your eyes on your little ones. The kitchen was updated with brand new appliances only two years ago and is perfect for the home chef. From the kitchen island you can look out onto Farm Creek and enjoy the water view at high tide or sunset in the evening.
What we find most appealing about the property is the location. We are a short 1-2 minute walk from two beautiful private beaches on the Long Island Sound. Our favorite is East Beach, which looks out over a mooring field and onto nearby Tavern Island and Sheffield Island. Both islands are navigable by kayak or paddle board if you are willing to expend some effort and get a good workout in!
Another great aspect of the location is a large private park a couple hundred yards from our front door. The park has a backstop and some benches along the water and is a perfect place to take your kids or your morning coffee...or espresso from our Nespresso esspresso maker!
Then there is Rocky Point, a truly magnificent private park about a five minute walk from our front door. The park juts out into the sound and on a clear day you will enjoy exceptional views of Long Island and the NYC skyline about 35 miles away.
As for the general accommodations, the master bedroom on the 2nd floor has a queen bed for two. The space can accommodate a crib at the foot of the bed but a crib would also fit in the master bathroom which is quite large, about 12ft x 8ft, and only steps from the bed. The third floor has another queen bed and a single bed and there is an aero mattress in the closet should you need it. We've also had guests sleep on our couch in the living room, which is deep enough one might refer to it as more of a daybed than a couch. So all in, the house can comfortably accommodate five people; two in the master queen, two in the 3rd floor queen, and then one more in the 3rd floor single bed. But if you needed to, you could fit two more on the aero bed and another on the couch in the living room.
From NYC, our house is about a one hour train ride on the New Haven train line out of Grand Central Station.
Great place for a couple or small family. The views out the back of the house are wonderful and the location is perfect. Beach is a block or so away and it's a very pleasant 10-15 minute walk to get to coffee, groceries and restaurants. Owner was flexible and easy to work with. Would definitely look forward to staying here again!
