About the property

4 Paws, gîte with pool - an amazing place to stay

4 Paws is a private, self-catering, modern holiday home and BBQ dining area, with Swimming pool (heated to 22°C if requested in June thru’ September) within a half acre landscaped garden. Totally refurbished in 2017, and reserved exclusively for guests, this lower floor of the villa, next to the pool and garden, is accessed independently. There are spectacular 180° views from the property.

The gîte comprises 2 en-suite, double bedded bedrooms, both air-conditioned, and an open plan sun lounge (kitchen, dining area and sitting room with a sofa bed).

4 Paws sleeps 5.

All rooms have TV’s, stereo and bluetooth sound equipment and high speed, broadband wi-fi access. The kitchen is well equipped. Outside and separately there are the BBQ, a hot water pool shower and laundry facilities.

Parking is secure. Privacy is assured as no other part of the property is rented out. The pool, BBQ and garden are fully lit in the evenings

Roujan is located in the relatively undiscovered and scenically breathtaking l'Hérault region of Southern France, between Provence and the Spanish border, and, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, away from the madding (summer) crowd. It is a 10 minute drive northwest of Pézenas (a Medieval Market town).

4 Pause is situated centrally in the village, which has a full range of amenities all within walking distance.

The traditional main summer season is from June to September.

During the main season bookings are only taken for full weeks, (unless there is last minute availability), Sunday to Sunday, from 4pm on the day of arrival until 10 am on the day of departure.

Outside the main season there is flexibility. Kindly contact the owners for a quote.

Easter, May and October are also wonderful periods to get away. We offer great deals, so that you can make the most of the Mediterranean weather, awesome wines, gastronomy, history and culture.

Our offer, summarised

• Bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and Air conditioning

• 80m2 living and BBQ dining areas

• a heated pool, if required during the summer months

• A personalised "welcome" hamper, food and all basic necessities

• Free broadband internet access, wifi and ethernet in each room

• TV, sound & movie equipment in each room

• Graham's Guest Guide and local assistance from the owners

The Gîte and its lay-out:-

Inside

• A sun lounge (with TV, DVD, stereo and bluetooth sound equipment, Broadband Wi-Fi and Ethernet access, iPod docking, a 3 seater sofa/single bed).

• A well equipped, compact kitchen (within the sun lounge/sitting room) - a dining table and chairs, a convection gourmet oven with grill and roasting spit, a microwave, a 2-element ceramic hob, a dishwasher, a fridge with freezer compartment, coffee machines and electric kettles, a full range of kitchen utensils, cutlery and glasses.

• Two double bedrooms – called the "Plum" & "Mint" rooms (a 140 cm, double bed in each bedroom) with en-suite shower rooms, hair dryers, stereo TV and DVD players, Bluetooth speakers, Broadband Wi-Fi and Ethernet access and (reversible) air-con and heating. The Plum Bedroom has its own small terrace. The bedrooms are not connected. The Mint bedroom is accessed via the sun lounge and the Plum bedroom from the outside pool area.

Outside

• An 11 m x 5 m pool, (heated as required to 22°c from June to September inclusive). Sabine and Graham occasionally fall in. There is pool/sun furniture for 5+.

• An outside hot water pool shower (a luxury - believe us!)

• An impressive view: the garden, pool, and 25 kms beyond - the surrounding countryside and vineyards.

• An exclusive outside, shaded, dining and BBQ area with circular stone table and benches.

• Your own laundry facilities (in the pool house)

Your Holiday:-

Located slightly inland between the sea and the mountains, this is a region that begs to be explored. So, plan your type of holiday - lazy, relaxing by the pool - or active - or both.

Close by are wild sandy beaches or seaside resorts, historic cities or typical local villages, the Garrigue or the Cevennes. Don't miss the international cultural and musical events. Pick your sporting activities. Or, simply do as the French themselves, enjoy the local gastronomy and distinctive wines.

The 4 Paws gîte is an ideal holiday home for guests who BBQ and love to relax and live outside in the long summer months.

Local travel:-

You will need your own motorized transport if you plan on exploring the area although there is a local, rather infrequent, bus service. You can rent a car from the airport, the TGV station, and at low cost in the village.

Dog and cat lovers:-

There are 4 shy but friendly dogs and 7 cautious cats on the property, who are not allowed into the Gîte, unless invited, so regretfully we cannot accept your pets.

AND last but not least,

the Weather:-

Roujan enjoys 300 sunny days per year, every year. The best months are April through October, when daytime temperatures rarely fall below 18°C. Summers can be beautifully “hot”. Spring is clear and sunny - don't exclude Easter. Summer tends to linger on well into October.

About Sabine & Graham

Sabine and Graham, your hosts and the owners, live invisibly on site. They are delighted to assist with any questions or problems. They are happy to share their knowledge and love of the region and help you make the most of your holiday.

Languages:- You will hear english, french and german while staying at 4 Paws - Sabine is very happy to practice her Spanish too!

On arrival you will receive your complimentary and personalized « welcome » hamper, food, local wines and necessities (for stays of a week or more), so that you will be able to start your holiday on the right footing with an aperitif (around the pool), wine, a light evening meal, and your first French style breakfast the following morning.

Guests have at their disposal a file 'Guests – a cherry picked selection of tips and suggestions' – with maps, guidebooks, leaflets, suggested day trips and lists of local and gourmet restaurants, closest beaches, wine tasting places, and much more.

In conclusion there is much attention to detail. The aim is to make you feel thoroughly welcome as well as to provide quality self catering accommodation, primarily based on a weekly stay, starting every Sunday.

So, arrive, relax and get straight into the holiday mood.

p.s. Sabine and Graham have been known to sometimes fall in the pool.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Roujan a fairly quiet small town but with most amenities you are likely to need (eg chemist, boulangerie, supermarket, bars, restaurants.) However you are more likely to be attracted by the location, nestled between the coastal plane and the mountains (hills according to the locals) of the Massif Central. Car virtually essential but with the coast and mountains half an hour away and the towns/cities of Montpellier, Beziers, Meze etc less than an hour away your days need not be filled up by travelling. And the delightful historic town of Pezenas has an wide choice of restaurants and shops only 15 minutes away.

4-Paws accommodation is first class, spacious, freshly redecorated and equiped with all modern appliances. Although the two bedrooms are not connected they are both have bathroom/shower facilities so no problems overnight. Ideal for two couples. The pool and gardens are beautiful and essentially it is yours and no fighting over loungers. For those looking for a deep tan there is always a spot you can find in the direct rays around the pool as the sun tracks round during the day. And for those who like shade again no problem.

Our hosts, Sabine and Graham, were charming and helpful (in fact a virtual concierge service) but respectful of our privacy.

Don't overlook the blessing of the well stocked "Welcome Pack" which will get you through the Sunday and Monday breakfast in the likely event that the local SuperU is closed when you arrive (half-day closing on Sundays). Incidentally very impressed by the range and quality of the fresh food at this store.

In conclusion all very much as accurately described on the web site with no hidden unwelcome surprises.

4 Paws, gîte with pool - an amazing place to stay

A gem of a gîte in the most beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing week! We have not long got back after spending a week at 4 Paws with our 2 boys. It truly is a little gem of a gîte in the most beautiful setting with a view that you will never grow tired of.

Graham and Sabine were the most wonderful hosts and were so, so generous throughout our stay. They are very knowledgeable about the area and more than happy to share information, give advice as to where to visit and advise on the local wine even sharing their own collection! We were also able to select what we wanted in our welcome hamper which was very extensive and all included in the price - great when you arrive on a Sunday when everything is closed.

Although compact, the gîte has everything you would need and is very well maintained. Very well equipped with all mod cons and air conditioning. The pool is just stunning and enjoyed by all and we honestly felt as though we were in the grounds of a 5 star hotel at times. The BBQ area is lovely too and a great spot to relax and have a drink in the evening.

The location is perfect, on the edge of a small town with the most incredible views of the countryside and yet less than a 10min walk from 2 fantastic boulangeries.

1 week was too short in such a lovely place, only wish we could have booked for 2!!

The Area

The Languedoc-Roussillon is breathtaking - the Mediterranean, medieval cities, vineyards, mountains and space.

The past was rich in every sense. The Cathars settled here between the 12th and 14th centuries. The first European Medical School was established in Montpellier. The cities of Carcassonne, Montpellier, Nîmes, Narbonne and Perpignan are steeped in history.

In the nineteen century viticulture and wine production became the dominant activities and the Languedoc Roussillon remains the highest volume "viticole" region in the World, where you can discover quality, interesting, and highly distinctive, local wines. Wine growers, restaurant owners and seafood farmers are currently demonstrating their talents and asserting the local identity.

The Region

Set in the heart of the magnificent Hérault, the villa is located 10 minutes NW of Pezenas in the picturesque village of Roujan (34320); 21 kms from Beziers Airport, 22 kms to the nearest beach Meze, 28 kms by road from the renowned Mediterranean beaches of Valras and Serignan, 55 mins from Narbonne, Montpellier (and its Airport) and Sète - under 2 hours to the Spanish border.

This is a relatively undiscovered destination, between the sea and the mountains, that begs to be explored. Choose your ideal holiday:- Lazy and relaxing - or active - or both - for you will find close by:-

• The Mediterranean Sea and long sandy beaches

• Markets with fresh, tempting regional produce

• Numerous Gourmet Restaurants

• Vineyards, wineries – discover high quality wines some of internationally renowned

• Olive groves

• The historic cities of Pezenas, Montpellier, Beziers, and more

• Fishing villages and oyster farms

• The mountainous National Parks of the Haut-Languedoc and des Cévennes. The Garrigue, Mediterranean moorlands great for hikes, or the ability to just wander around in the peaceful olive groves or up the Canal de Midi

• Chateau's (castles) and Cathar vestiges

• Dozens of sporting activities

The department of Hérault is on the move. Montpellier the county town is one of Europe's fastest-growing cities. There are major seaside resorts that attract millions of tourists and throughout the summer months, within easy reach, numerous folklore, art, theatre and music festivals. Montpellier boasts an Opera House.

But despite all the commotion, along the coast, the interior of l'Hérault remains largely unspoiled. The countryside is glorious as you drive away from the Mediterranean Sea towards the foothills of the Massif Central and the Black Mountains. Many of the surrounding villages are incredibly pretty.

Roujan

The once fortified village of Roujan was founded by the Romans. Today the "city" gates can still be seen. It is a typical vigneron village but less sleepy than many, in fact economically dynamic, hence the wealth of amenities in the village, all within easy walking distance:

• A Supermarket and Mall

• Restaurants

• Bakers

• A comprehensive Medical Centre, Pharmacy and Opticians

• a Garage and Petrol Stations

• Wineries

• an active tourist office grouping together the Communauté de Communes Avants-Monts du Centre Hérault.

Pézenas, close by, is a Medieval town with an incredible if slightly decrepit old centre. Molière is very much linked to the town. There is a major street market every Saturday full of local produce.
