Charming beautiful studio with balcony overlooking backyards in 100 year old brick townhouse in Queens Village / Center City neighborhood, close to all attractions and nightlife! Perfect for a single or couple. We're just 3 beautiful blocks from lively South Street and easy access to major expressways. Neighborhood has over 100 outstanding restaurants and coffee shops of all descriptions within walking distance. Historical area and river nearby - 10 min walk (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Constitution Center, U.S. Mint, Betsy Ross House, Benjamin Franklin House, Carpenter Hall, etc.). Convention center 20-25 min walk (bus stop nearby, taxi also easy to get). 5 minute walk from historic Colonial area (Society Hill). Convenient city bus stops across the street providing access to all parts of the city although one can walk everywhere in Center City. Pay parking lots all close-by with street parking available.

South Street is packed with interesting shops of all varieties, places to grab a fast bite or a fine meal. The neighborhood has numerous restaurants (over 100 within walking distance and 7 within one block). The famous Italian Market is on 9th Street.

Generally you can walk everywhere. If you like to ride, the #47 bus stops nearby. It heads due north, stopping at every corner and returns on 8th Street. Service is frequent especially around rush hour. Its a fast way to get to Market Street, where you can connect with the Market Street subway or bus lines. Taxis are another way to get around easily - they will come to the house if called or you can hail one on the street. Walking distance to Market Street and Independence Hall just 15 minutes, the Delaware River/ Penn's Landing area 10-15 minutes, Italian Market 10 minutes, Convention Center 20-25 minutes walk. Pennsylvania Hospital just 5 minutes (8th and Pine), beautiful Society Hill (Historic colonial area) 10 minutes. Broad Street (Subway at South and Broad) just 7 blocks away - about 10-15 min walk.

I'm originally from Philadelphia but was a pilot in the military for the last 11 years. Now I'm an entrepreneur and moonlight as a HomeAway host. My girlfriend Emily was raised overseas and is a professional scuba diver and aspiring veterinarian. We both Love to travel and have been to over 30 countries. We love to get the local feel when we do travel so HomeAway has been great. Although, we have slept in some really random places in our travels where we wished there was a listing! Things we can't live without: TRAVEL and Chocolate!

Great location, true old town gem. Awesome communications...we thoroughly enjoyed our Philadelphia experience. Cable TV wasn't stupendous, but we weren't there to watch tv! :-)

Property was double-booked, resolution was half-baked

My wife and I arrived about 90 minutes after our check-in time to find the whole building had been rented by someone else (to accommodate around a dozen young men). By coincidence, Rich the property manager was there, and we all had a discussion about the issue. I explained that we would be willing to move to a new place as long as it was as close to the Riverlink Ferry and there was a convenient place to load/unload. While he worked to resolve the issue, he mentioned that VRBO "should not have let [the double booking] happen" and that "this happens sometimes".

He then found a replacement rental for us, borrowing space owned by a relative. It was a very nice townhouse with lots of space that we did not use. It was also twice as far from the ferry as the space we originally rented and was located on a super narrow Philly cobblestone street. Everyone on that street drives a tall SUV...the rims on my car got all scuffed up by the sidewalk curbs as it was nearly impossible to get in/out without hitting the curb a bit. While the replacement space was nice, it did not meet either of the conditions I specified. I pointed the issue out and Rich had no reply. Given that I was already late, I did not have time to argue further and just accepted the replacement.

To be fair, Rich did apologize and followed us to the new address...he even helped me bring in our luggage because we were in a rush. However, the replacement did not meet our specified needs and I ended up having to spend $35-40 on uber rides I did not plan to take. In addition, the whole debacle cost me time and we were a bit late to the concert we were attending in Camden. Those concert tickets cost me more than the rental...not a good outcome.

In sum, my 3-star rating is a mostly about the management of the property. Managing is not just collecting money from renters and hiring cleaning staff...this double-booking issue should have been caught when Rich "confirmed" our trip weeks prior or at least earlier on the check-in day. Moreover, when I told Rich the replacement was inconvenient, he had no reply and offered no solutions. He offered no compensation for our inconvenience other than to put us in a "nicer" space that was far bigger than we needed and less convenient for our stated needs. Bottom line: The owner is double-posting this space and not paying much attention to the reservations being made. I would have serious reservations with trusting Rich with my vacation plans in the future.

Cozy apartment near Historic old city

Apartment was in a great location for walking to Independence National Park and downtown city center. The bed is amazingly comfortable. Only downside is that parking is tricky, a couple blocks away, and an extra expense. Not a big deal for us, but likely good to know for some. Would definitely stay here again.

Rich was responsive to problems when called. Bed slept great. Kitchen and bathroom functioned well. Plenty of outside light if wanted. Many restaurants in immediate neighborhood. If you like blues music try Twisted Tail. Good coal oven pizza on first block of South St. Good Indian on 3rd block of South. Also bus 57 on Madison going north on 3rd St., and 4th street going south - free for 65+. Nearest groceries at 4th and Bainbridge and 4th and Madison. We were lucky as no one in apt. above ours till the last night - you hear through the ceiling all too well.

1. This is a quiet private building, please keep it that way. (ie. No Loud Parties)
2. Please cleanup any dishes or messes before leaving.
3. Checkout time is a strict 10am. The cleaners arrive by 11am so please let us know prior to your arrival if you need a place to store your belongings after this time. Cleaners charge $50/hr if kept waiting which will be taken from deposit if guest doesn't checkout on time.
4. No Smoking Inside OR directly outside the front-door (the neighbors will complain so please go for a nice stroll).
5. Refund Policy is "Strict" on this listing which means we can only offer a 50% refund (except fees) up to 1 week prior to your reservation. There are no refunds for cancellations within a week of arrival. We highly recommend Travel Insurance for anyone who might have last-minute issues traveling.
