The cabin in the woods was PERFECT for getting away from it all! Laura was very welcoming! Once you're on the back property you have all the privacy in the world! There is a fire pit and chairs with wood provided, and a grill for BBQ'ing. You can even bring your horses!!! The field that surrounds you is great for star gazing. It was cloudy and rain but we didn't seem to mind. Will definitely be back! Cabin offers cold water, coffee, sugar, hot cholate, tea, and condiments. The cabin itself provided everything you need to cook a wonderful meal. Bring your own movies!!! Also, a selection of good ones there. We took a blow-up mattress that fit perfect by the bed so my brother and I had our own beds perfect for watching movies. Nice, clean, and decorated very tasteful. Excellent linens and towels! Go to Ron's Catfish in Koontz or Elijah's in Woodville for great lunches! Brookshire Brothers close by also in Koontz. Walmart in Woodville. Thanks again for a wonderful, peaceful, restful weekend... Can't say enough good things about this rental! See you again soon!
Arrived on a wet and rainy day just before getting dark. Had no trouble locating Laura's secluded cabin. Cabin and area was exactly what I wanted. It was very quite and peaceful. It is behind a tree line at the end of 4830 and exactly as Laura described and detailed out to me for arrival. There was water in the refrigerator with some condiments like mustard, ketchup and mayo packs. Nice touch. I had a cooler of my own food, so I was set for the night. There is coffee and filters for the coffee maker. I brought my own creamer and sweetener. Always do, just something I always try and do since I use low glycemic. AC unit works well which was very welcome. The little kitchen area was totally functional with a full size oven/stove, a microwave, coffee maker and full size refrig. Fully stocked with pots, pans, and dishes.
Small bathroom with shower, but very functional and nice. Queen bed was comfortable and very inviting at days end. TV had a few stations on it, but I found sitting outside on the porch to be where I wanted to be. Actually managed to finish a book. My cell service did not work well out there at all. Laura tells me Verizon is good. So if you have Verizon, then guess you are good to go. No internet what so ever, so go knowing that. Cell service picks up once back out on main road. Big Thicket trails all close by with a very nice main visitor center. I managed to get in a few trails in and around the weather. I was in area for Saturday family event close to Sour Lake and Beaumont which took about 25 minutes for me to drive back and forth. Had never really explored the Big Thicket area and glad I did. Hope to return. It is a lovely area. I would stay here again.
If your looking to be off the beaten path and just relax in nature, this place is perfect! The cabin was very clean and well kept, and the owner left some water for us too, which I thought was very nice.
The cabin was in the perfect secluded area. It backs right up to the National Preserve so in the mornings and evenings we were able to watch the deer. In the evenings it was perfect for star gazing. The cabin was completely functional for what my husband and I needed, the owners even left some water for us. I would definitely recommend :)
It was close to hiking (in the National Preserve) and canoeing (in Silsbee).
