This house rental consists of four bedrooms: three twin bedrooms and one king bedroom. There are three full bathrooms. A full size washing machine & cloths dryer. Wireless WIFI. There is a large living-dining room and a large, well equipped, kitchen. A broad veranda faces the sea.

The house is a large, rambling beach house. It will sleep up to eight people.

The house rental fee includes daily maid service and a gardener.

A cook can be arranged at the expense of the renter(s).

All linens are included in the house rental fee as well. The house also has free wireless Internet access.

About Brian FitzGerald

We are a large family, 13 siblings, from a town in Northern NY along the Canadian border.

My father acquired the property some years ago to have some relief from the tough upstate NY winters.

I manage the property for the family, my siblings and their families are heavy users of the property.

Why Brian FitzGerald chose Long Bay

Barbados is English speaking.

All the comforts of home are close at hand if you want them as Barbados is one of the most developed islands in the region. The literacy rate approaches 98% and the capital Bridgetown and its surrounds are booming.

Our property is away from the luxury resorts of the west coast and the well-developed south coast, so if you are looking for a highly developed commercial resort setting, that is not our property. We are a short drive from the well-developed southern coast should you wish to access it.

Our property is located on the Southeast coast which is where you’ll find what makes the island special. Steady cooling easterly trade winds and a pristine natural setting. The property is located oceanhfront in a quiet, upscale and safe residential setting, close to supermarkets, restaurants and bars. There are a number of beaches within walking distance and Crane Beach, one of the finest beaches on the island is 10 minutes by car.

Barbados is a great package, and despite its popularity, you’ll have no trouble making it your own. Away from the glitz, it’s still a place of classic calypso rhythms, an island-time vibe and world-famous rums.

Half a million people can’t be wrong. That’s the number of visitors Barbados attracts annually, and it doesn’t take long before you see why they come by the planeload: the coasts are ringed by the kinds of azure-water and white-sand visions that fuel the fantasies of Brits, Americans and Canadians stuck shivering away in some snowy winter clime.

What makes this house unique

The property is a unique opportunity for the budget conscious wanting a private ocean front natural setting but not wanting to incur the high cost of a luxury villa. The house is charming, roomy, comfortable and simply furnished.

We so enjoyed our vacation in the large house! Once again, we were enchanted by the superb beaches around our rental. Location, location, location! Being the holidays, we were joined by some locals who know the good spots such as the shark hole and the natural pools at the farther end of Sam Lord’s beach. We also took a short drive (5 minutes) to Ginger beach where the boys played in the waves and buried themselves in the sand. We also went to Crane beach and jumped off the rocks. Lots of fun. My husband and the boys took a catamaran expedition one day and swam with the sea turtles and saw a lot of amazing fish and rays. We also took advantage of Gabby’s home cooking and enjoyed an truly marvelous Bajan meal including mahi-mahi and flying fish – mmm. We discovered a new beach very close by at Harrismith. Beautiful spot and the ruins in the setting sun were splendid. This was our 5th visit. We talk about Barbados and your rental with such enthusiasm that some friends of ours are considering coming in the spring! I know they will love it as we did. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

The view is amazing

If you want a over the top view then this is it, You are literally on the ocean. As for the house its very spacious but not my cup of tea. Its outdated the owner of the property does not take care of it. Which made my stay just a place to rest my head. The house keeper Gabby she is amazing. She did make us feel as comfortable as she could. It still didn't change the fact that there was so much wrong with this place its a shame.

Very Happy

I took my two boys here for their college spring break. The villa offered a perfect mix of convenience, functionality and awesome natural beauty. The Long Bay area has a lax feel, a lot of opportunities to engage with local activities (cricket, local foodie spots) and get a true sense of the remarkable personality of Barbadians. Not to far to the east you'll find the popular spots like Crane beach (amazing beach and breath taking grounds), Oistins (do not miss the fish fry) and Bridgetown (if you scuba dive must check out Eco-dive) and to the west Bathseba (world class surfing--we just watched:)....Brian was a great host...and we loved our morning visits from Gabby (property manager), she's an endless source of information about local fish markets, community affairs and positive energy:)

Comfortable, safe location

The six of us really enjoyed sitting in the Muskoka chairs under the three trees on the side property every morning and evening - drinking our morning tea or coffee in the morning and having a few Banks in the evenings. Mostly just watching the waves roll in and out...a very relaxing sound. When it rained we took the chairs into the screened in porch and enjoyed the view. The house was comfortable, but could use some small repairs here and there. The beds were fine and the showers worked well. We did not spend a great deal of time inside the cottage, as we were always on the go, checking out the local attractions. The cottage could use a barbecue for the evenings when you decide to stay in. We located the Shark Hole swimming area and walked down to Sam Lord's beach a few times also and enjoyed the ocean. The Bajan natives were all very friendly and helpful when we got lost driving around the island. We really enjoyed the Mount Gay and the Banks Brewery tours. We watched the changing of the guard and then investigated the Museum one Thursday. We had a ball one Saturday at the horse races. We found plenty of small local restaurants at Oistins and St. Laurence Gap which were very affordable and served tasty assorted fish dishes. We swam at Miami and Carlisle Beach quite a few times....beautiful beaches. We went to see the caves at the north end of the island, but unfortunately it was closed, due to high winds and waves. Gabby the house keeper was great and gave us lots of suggestions for meals and things to see.

Basic home in a beautiful setting, some disappointments.

Our family traveled to Barbados for 4 nights after Christmas 2015. Our plan had been to stay at the Fitzgerald home for 4 nights, but ended up only staying there for 2. There were some aspects that were quite disappointing. Our review is below.

Our flights were delayed but we had no trouble relaying the message to Brian, and then to Gabby, and the house was unlocked and ready for our arrival without issue.

The house itself is large and very basic. The beds are thin and there is no air conditioning (there are fans in each room). A point we wish we had known was that there are steps between the living area and kitchen as well as the veranda. We have a toddler just working on walking and this was actually quite dangerous and a problem for us.

The home was also quite dirty. Paint was peeling, there were bugs and dirt on the window sills, etc. again, our curious toddler is at a point where he is exploring and picking up everything. The bugs and paint chips were a problem.

The Fitzgerald home is, no doubt, in a gorgeous location. Beautiful waves crash loudly against a small cliff right behind the Windows, which are screens with shutters. No glass. It's certainly breathtaking (but can be incredibly loud and made falling asleep, especially for our kids, quite difficult!).

It is important to note that the access to the "private beach" is not there anymore (although it's still in pictures in the advertisement). It seems to have been washed away in recent months. This, which had been a huge selling point for our family, was a significant disappointment and I wish we had known.

We did not see Gabby at all during our stay. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication or some other issue, but she did not come to or service the house. It was not a big deal for us, in that we were not needing an particular service, but we let Brian know.

The house does have a washer/dryer setup, which we appreciated. But the cleaning supplies themselves are actually locked in a cabinet, so we had to wait until morning to get some detergent at a store to use them.

In the end we cut our 4 night stay at this house to 2 nights, and we moved our family for the remainder of our vacation. I contacted the owner the day we arrived about the issues above and then again several times during the next two days. While it took some time for him to reply (it was a holiday week, so perhaps that contributed.) at this point, he has given us a partial refund which is appreciated.

Misrepresented Property

We had booked a three week stay at the Fitzgerald house for our honeymoon in June, attracted to the small private beach and secluded location of the house. Two things we were looking for when booking our vacation.

Upon arrival it was evident that this beach did not exist, the stairs had been washed away and going into the water was out of the question. We were basically cliffside. We talked to locals who had advised us this happened a few months before as to which we were not made aware of.

We spoke with Brian immediately to tell him that we felt that portions of the property were misrepresented, no beach (it says rougher water which we were aware of) we did not want to lounge in the yard as it was not maintained (the rest of the properties surrounding were green and lush...this one was was brown and barren.) The ocean was filled with sea moss and the smell was horrendous. The house was fine, however, we were really let down. After sending him photos he told us that we must have been at the wrong property. When he realized that we were not he told us that he'd get back to us in a couple days and would have someone there to fix the stairs - which would have not been possible as the water was right up to the rocks and there would be no point.

We decided that this is not where we wanted to spend our three week honeymoon and asked Brian if we could work something out, and get at least some of our money back. He said ok and the housekeeper Gaby also told us she spoke to him and he said was planning on sending our money back to us. Gaby was wonderful, she provided us with great ideas for what to do around the island and brought us some snacks while we waited. We rebooked at the Crane resort for a night until we found another spot for the remainder of our trip.

We waited for reimbursement from Brian, but received another call from him saying it wasn't his fault and he would not be sending anything back.

Overall, poor experience from this property and dealing with Brian. We would not want anyone to have the experience we did and would advise to do extra research on this property before booking. We have photos from what it looked like in June and we had hoped Brian would have updated this listing to be more accurate - which it looks like he has not done.

We loved Barbados and were able to find the perfect lodging elsewhere, it's just a shame that we lost out here.

Perfect vacation location!!!

What a great vacation! Gabby is a sweetheart and is a great source of local knowledge, telling us where to visit and where to avoid. The property is well-maintained, and the house is just the right size for a couple or a family, located in a quiet part of the island away from the touristy areas. it made us feel like we were living more like locals than tourists. The location right on the water ensured a constant breeze to keep things cool and the beauty of sunrise over the waves was breathtaking. The water is a little rough for swimming but the yard is perfect for sunbathing and relaxing or reading under a tree with a Banks beer. The e-mail Brian sent with tips on getting to the house and from whom to rent a car was extremely helpful. A car is a big plus considering the location of the home.

Staying at FitzGerald's made us feel like we were in a, "home away from home," and after a day at the beach, sailing, or sightseeing, it really did feel like we were coming home to "the house." The kitchen is well-stocked with nearly any utensil, pan, or plate you would need and we cooked many meals there to save on dining out.

The people of Barbados are friendly, fun, and patient with non-residents. We had nothing but great experiences with everyone we met. Other parts of the Caribbean have not impacted us so emotionally and we've not wanted to revisit them, but we absolutely would revisit, not only Barbados, but the FitzGerald home as well.

A large, rambling beach house situated on the sea edge within the secluded and gated private FitzGerald property. There is small sand cove directly on the ocean front and superb tropical paradise beaches to either side. Two minutes walk is Sam Lords Castle beaches and Crane Beach Resort is just one mile along the coast. The Crane beach is the finest beach on the island.

A short walk from the house is the Tropical Winds Hotel serving breakfeast, lunch and diner daily with a full bar. JJ Variety is a convienance store a few minutes walk. Emerald City Supermarket at Six Roads, 15 minutes by car.

Suited to those wanting a relaxing, romantic or private get away break, the area is much quieter than the main tourist areas on the South and West coasts, and benefits from an almost constant gentle soothing breeze. The South East Coast has a more natural & relaxed environment and is specially noted for the genuine hospitality and friendliness of its local inhabitants
