A secluded 55 acre farmhouse in open rolling pastures on a small stream named Walnut Run. It is 80 miles from Washington DC and just 10 miles from Skyline Drive and the hiking trails of Shenandoah National Park.
The house is clean, quiet and minimally decorated. There are two bedrooms. The kitchen is fully stocked and there is a large library of classical literature. There is a living room with a baby grand piano and a studio that opens onto a 50 foot screened porch. A perfect getaway to enjoy peace, beauty, and privacy.
I have been a professional artist, photographer and cinematographer for over 30 years.
John Kirchner purchased this farmhouse in 1992
The property is simply beautiful. The house is perfectly sited on the land and there are endless views in all directions. There is a large, flat lawn below the house that borders a small stream called Walnut Run.
Peace and Quiet
The place are with a lot of character , great for someone who are looking for a differnt experience.
Quirky place with a lot of character. Nice and secluded. Silent and dark at night. We really enjoyed our stay.
"My ambition is limited to capturing something transient," the Impressionist painter Berthe Morisot proclaimed. And, like a painting by Monet, Walnut Run Farm is ephemeral and fixed simultaneously. The creek changes with the sunlight, the rain, and yet it is constant. This sense of timelessness pervades with clouds over the surrounding rolling hills and ample shade under the towering trees around the farmhouse and barns. John the proprietor said to me, "I like old things," and indeed antiques spanning the nineteenth and twentieth centuries are scattered throughout the house. An enormous screened porch allows for afternoon naps and beautiful views of the sunset. It is a wonderful place to lose oneself.
Charming house with beautiful land, but still close to everything!
It is beautiful and serene. close to national park. owner is very friendly.
it would be better if wifi has stronger signal.
My family and I just spent a night here and it was absolutely lovely. The farmhouse is large, but seems cozy and impeccably clean and comfortable. We had a great time walking all over the area, near the small creek and the fields, and watching out for meteors. John, the owner, was very pleasant, meeting us there, and giving us a great tour of the place upon our arrival.
Although we went with 3 small children, I would caution that the house is filled with artwork that is incredible, but all very breakable. We kept our kids occupied with other things, but the art is out in the open and accessible to little ones in case your children are more curious than ours. For a small fee, we brought our dog who had a great time running in the open spaces.
A wonderful weekend for us since we got to take advantage of beautiful weather and surroundings. It would be great to come back in the snow to sled down the hills in the fields! Thank you!
