Captain's Quarters was truly a labor of love. It look us three years to build and was completed in December of 2014. We are located on the beautiful north shores of St Thomas. The villa faces NE so we enjoy warm tropical breezes most all year. The view is phenomenal. We sit above five bays and have an expansive view of the Atlantic ocean. You can only find that true aqua color here in our crystal clear waters. We have over 30 varieties of tropical trees and flowers on the grounds and enjoy the hummingbirds and parrot that frequent them.
Our location is considered rural or as the locals call it "the bush". This means we are away from the hustle and bustle of town but close enough to enjoy our shopping and restaurants. You don't hear traffic noise here, just the waves breaking on the rocks, the squawk of parrots and the song of the "coki frogs" at night. All ocean views on the island are spectacular but ours are not hindered with power lines or neighbor's houses. We have an unobstructed spectacular view!
Did we mention the breezes keep away the bugs so dining on your porch at night is a treat? There is casual seating on the porch in addition to a six person dining table and chef's grill. Inside the Quarters has a leather sofa and recliner for those in the mood for a little TV. We offer a 47in HDTV with cable, premium stations and Netflix. The fully equipped kitchen has custom cabinets, granite countertops stainless steel appliances and an ice maker that's a real work horse!
The Master Suite has views of the ocean and our ever growing banana garden. The king bed has a great mattress and several pillows to choose from enabling a good nights rest. The en suite bathroom has a double vanity and a walk in travertine stone shower with a window. You can enjoy the outside while showering inside!
The second bedroom has a queen bed with Hotel Collection bedding. The additional bath has a travertine shower with a shower rain head. The full size front load washer and dryer are conveniently located in the hallway.
Joe and I live on the property also but we designed our home with vacationers in mind. You'll have your own space with a private entrance and personal parking. We are handicapped accessible and one of the few properties on the island with NO STAIRS and level grounds. We are here and available to insure you have the best vacation possible in our tropical paradise. We're happy to help with directions or answer any questions you may have. Joe has sampled every burger on the island and is eager to offer his opinions! Our goal is for you to have a great time on St Thomas!
Please visit Captain's Quarters Caret Bay on Homeaway.com or VRBO.com.
#3879114 is our two bedroom that you are viewing now and
#3879113 is a smaller one bedroom.
We have a beautiful courtyard with a POOL! While you're here, the pool is a great place to relax and cool off. It's only used by guests in our two units. You'll see Joe cleaning it every morning and if we're invited, serving his famous rum punch at cocktail time!
"Honorable Mention" goes to our GENERATOR. Being on an island we have a limited power grid to draw from. Consequently, at times we find ourselves without electricity. Joe is not much for roughing it or having his favorite scifi program interrupted so when the lights go out, our GENERATOR goes on!
If you've searched for a place to stay while on your vacation, you already know how beautiful our island is.
All beaches are open to the public, don't limit yourself just to one. Each offers something different.
It's so fun to eat here. The restaurants are many and their menus unique. Enjoy the local cuisine from a food truck or eat in a five star establishment.
Consider renting a car. Driving here is an experience all it's own. With a car you can explore the island. We're only 14 miles long, 3 wide. We drive slowly, anything over 25 mpr is too fast. Come and go as you please. When someone waits for you in traffic, a slight beep means THANK YOU!
Joe and I are retired. We are living our dream. We'd like to share it with you!
Joe was born and raised in New York. He attended an all boys high school and played varsity football as tackle. After graduation he volunteered in the US Marine Corp and served in Viet Nam. After retirement, he moved to New Mexico and attended the University of Albq majoring in business. Joe was owner of several service related businesses in Farmington, New Mexico. He enjoyed organizing dive vacations for large parties and traveling to exotic places. In preparation for civilian retirement, Joe attended PADI PRO DIVE in Florida and graduated as a Master Scuba Diver Instructor. After moving to the USVI, he attended Sea School and became a licensed boat Captain. Thus, CAPTAIN JOE
Joe and Marcia Wilkins purchased this apartment in 2014
We have lived on St Thomas for 10 years. The WEATHER here is hands down, unbeatable. We love the hues of the OCEAN, especially the turquoise you only find in the Caribbean. We enjoy the diversity of LANDSCAPES.
The PEOPLE of St Thomas are of many cultures and nations. Our CUSTOM is to greet all with a ''good morning'' or ''good afternoon''. It's a great icebreaker when you enter a doctors office and greet a room full of waiting patients.
We enjoy outdoor DINING and sampling our various 5 Star eateries.
Top of our list are all the AQUATIC activities available on our island, The crystal clear, warm waters are perfect for boating, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing etc. etc. etc.
We looked at homes to purchase for two years. We spent one year looking at lots. Marcia had a requirement list with no compromises. We had to find a piece of property with a fantastic view, no lines or wires blocking that view, decent roads and facing Northeast to take advantage of the sea breezes. We spent a year with an architect and it took two years to build.
Welcome to CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS!
What an amazing week we've had here in Paradise! The breathtaking views out our front door, our warm and gracious hosts have thought of every detail making this the perfect vacation get-a-way! We found St Thomas to be full of great adventure and we can't wait to come back to discover even more, one week is simply not enough! Although we are sad to be leaving, we do so with the joy of having made 3 new best friends in Joe, Marcia and of course, Lucy! We will miss you all but we will return!
The view of this property was breathtaking! My husband and I came with another couple who was getting married on the beach. The condo we stayed in was updated, comfortable and did I mention the view? We enjoyed coffee on the outside deck every morning. Marcia and Joe who own the property live on site and were very helpful. They provided everything we needed for an enjoyable week including snorkel and fins for the beaches. If you want a quiet relaxing place to stay on a gorgeous hill, this is the place in St. Thomas.
Joe and Marcia are amazing, as is their property! Joe gave us a free tour of the island, telling us where all the best beaches and snorkeling were, where the best restaurants were, where to shop...I mean everything we needed to know. And if we needed help with anything, they were right upstairs.
We had a last minute change in travel plans. Joe and Marcia were very accommodating. Joe met us at the airport at a very late hour, and we were able to follow him back to the house in our rental car. We had a lot of luggage, and it didn't fit in our car, so Joe helped us get it to and from the airport.
The apartment was exactly what we needed. The view off our balcony was amazing! We couldn't have had a better view in a 5-star hotel. The beds were comfortable, and we loved the big showers and the fully equipped kitchen! This is definitely the place to stay when on St. Thomas. Next time we come, this is where we'll stay.

Absolute great place, views are incredible and the owners directed us to all of the local spots to eat and snorkel. Quiet and close to everything.
We just got back from our 7 days on St. Thomas. The house was a 10-15 min ride up from the airport. The house very clean, so clean that I didn't even find ants, which is unusual for an island. The house had most items that you'll need (paper towels, towels, cooler, chairs, etc). We did hit the pueblos on the main road but I would recommend the grocery store in red hook. It was more fresh, had more organic items, and a salad bar. Joe and Marcia were very nice & easy to talk to. They're the type of people you can be friends with for life. They we're very kind to our boys and made sure they had squirt toys to play with. Our boys also loved Lucy, Marcia and Joe's dog. She was very sweet and stopped by almost every night for a goodnight petting. The patio/entrance was beautiful for morning coffee or an evening drink and a family board game. In short, I highly recommend staying at Joe and Marcia's place. You won't regret it.
This place was amazing. Just like the picture Joe and Marcia where the best host in the world love them
We stayed at Joe and Marsha's place in March. I don't even know where to start - the house is brand new, clean, very accommodating - has all the comforts of home! The view is absolutely amazing from the deck! Relaxing on the porch with your coffee in the morning is just breath taking! You are on the northside so there was always a breeze so you could enjoy the home with the windows open as well. Listening to the sounds of nature, hearing the roosters and the view is just spectacular - it is so relaxing! Joe and Marsha are such wonderful hosts, you felt like instant friends. They are so kind and helpful in telling you all about the islands ins/outs. Their dog Lucy was so sweet. We absolutely fell in love with this place, haven't stopped talking about it since we have been home and can not wait to go back! Thank you Joe and Marsha - We will see you again!!!
