About Matt Rippon

My sister and I recently acquired our family beach house. I am a high school teacher in Fullerton and she works for her husband's family business in Upland. We both have young families and enjoy staying at the beach house whenever we can.

Matt Rippon purchased this house in 1912

Why Matt Rippon chose Newport Beach - Balboa Island area

Our family has owned this property since 1912. We are blessed to own it as it has provided four generations of fun and fond memories. As the house embarks on a new chapter, we are excited to share our lovely cottage with you. Come, stay, relax, and make memories again and again.

What makes this house unique

Although the beach is just steps away, we also enjoy sunbathing with our favorite beverages in our private backyard. If someone has had enough sun, he or she can move to the shade of the brilliant natural canopy of our beautiful bougainvillea... and oh, that Pacific Ocean air!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to say that we really enjoyed our stay and loved your unit - it has a great vibe. Thank you for all of the extra effort that went into making us feel at home. I am sure we will be back....

Cute, retro, perfect spot

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time on our California vacation and this little beach house was the icing on the cake for our vacation. It was perfectly located and a quiet respite from the family we were visiting. The six of us were comfortable in the home and with the proximity to the beach and the town, we all were able to find fun things to do within walking distance. We stayed in June and the weather was absolutely perfect; not too hot and not too cold. The house was clean and well kept with old world accents that brought a homey feel to the entire place. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The homeowner was also very informative and kind and was always available for our questions. This place will definitely be considered for future vacations and we will be recommending this place to friends and family interested in the area.

Exactly what we hoped for and more!

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our recent stay at the Cottage! This rustic retreat was perfect for our family of 5. The kids loved the beach toys, and we appreciated the fact that everything we needed was within walking distance...beach, restaurants, groceries, playground. Becky was easy to book with and super fast when responding to our email inquiries. We hope to be back!

On the beach!

  • 5 of 5

This little place was perfect for me and my family of 8. The only thing that i can complain about is sofa bed is extremely old and uncomfortable. Other than that, it was a great place and the owner was very helpful and welcoming.

Family Time at the Beach

  • 5 of 5

What a great house and amazing location! We felt right at home as soon as we opened the door! We spent our days on the beach and our evenings around the table. We appreciated that the directions for checking in and out were very simple. We are already looking forward to renting this place again soon.

A perfect holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this little cottage on the beach. It has an old world charm. As the listing said, it was just five houses from the sand. The three bedrooms were more than adequate. The kitchen was fully equipped, which was very important to us. We ended up eating at home mostly and even did a barbecue on the big gas grill. The host was very accommodating and responded promptly to my voicemail when we had a problem with the bike lock. We solved the problem ourselves but it was good to find the host to be so responsive. We used the sand toys in the garage. The black-and-white family pictures were enchanting. We definitely want to return to this home-away-from-home. Our car fit in the garage perfectly too. And the grocery store was nearby. I walked along the beach from the Newport Beach pier to the Balboa pier and the entire stretch was absolutely beautiful. I also walked in the other direction another day, till I reached the sand dunes and noticed that there were no restaurants or crowds. Just cottages lined along the sand! Near the Newport Beach pier there are a few restaurants and cafes but it is not a party scene at all. There were mostly families with kids which suited us perfectly since I was there with my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. Also, I was impressed with the layout of the town. When you walk behind the beach cottages, you see a street - which is alternately called Seashore Drive or Oceanfront Drive - lined with children's parks and bathrooms etc. I found that charming. Thank you Becky for the use of your lovely cottage.

Perfect location, charming cottage, vintage appeal

  • 4 of 5

The Buckeye Cottage is the perfect place to stay for 1-2 families. The location is just a few houses away from the Newport Pier boardwalk. Its general location is ideal if you're looking to do Disneyland or even if you're looking to go to Legoland (1 hr away) while also having a premium locale by the beach for "rest days." The house itself has some quirky and interesting aspects about it: sand patio/backyard with BBQ, spacey garage with lots of beach goodies stocked, two beach cruiser bikes, a kitchen nook to prep food...you can tell this house has a magnificent past with all its nook and crannies. To consider is that this house is vintage-meaning very little upgrades but all maintained very well. Becky was very responsive and helpful when we struggled with an electrical issue for a couple days. There are upgraded accommodations like a flat screen TV, newer shower, and strong internet connection. We didn't use the TV as there's so much do around. Ride the beach cruiser bikes or walk down the boardwalk--stores, restaurants, bars, cafes are all available around. We'd take a walk every evening and grab a gelato and look out on the pier. Tip: If you have the space, pack your own beach towel as the ones provided are not allowed to leave the premises. Beach chairs are provided however. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you again Becky!
