Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Kawaihau

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

Newly built one-bedroom suite in Kauai's 'upcountry' at the base of the Makaleha mountains on a one-acre property. Wake up to the sound of birds and the beautiful view of the Makaleha waterfalls from the property. The peace and quiet is ideal for vacationers, business visiters, and residents seeking short-term housing. Newlyweds love the privacy and tranquility the property offers. The suite has a private bath and fully equipped kitchenette with a full-sized refrigerator, microwave oven, blender, toaster, counter-top stove and coffee maker with separate dining and living areas. Island-style furnishings with ceiling fans in each room along with the granite counters and travertine tile add elegance to the already breathtaking surroundings. The bedroom is furnished with a Cal-king bed with a Tempurpedic mattress. Amenities include satellite TV, a DVD player with a DVD library for your viewing pleasure, and wireless internet. Beach towels, boogie boards, ice cooler and beach chairs are provided as well.

From the outside sitting area enjoy the lush tropical vegetation including banana, pineapple, mango, papaya, bamboo, ginger flowers, and palm trees that surround the property. The property was recently featured on the Discovery Channel's series Buying Hawaii. Look for us in the episode of 'Flying Kauai.' We rocked it.

Quaint downtown Kapaa is located only 3.5 miles away. There you will find shopping, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and grocery stores. Kapaa is conveniently located midway between the North Shore and Poipu.

Why Julie Mann chose Kapaa

The scenery at the base of the Makaleha mountains is unrivaled -- from the sublime rainbows that greet you in the morning to the 1,000-foot waterfalls out the back door to the planetarium-like night skies. The property is expansive, the setting is rural and it is very private.

What makes this apartment unique

The property is minutes away from 'downtown' Kapaa where shopping, restaurants, local watering holes and beaches are all close by.

Better than perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted by everything this accommodation offered...a few minutes away from Kapaa, (a lovely town), an amazing view of the mountains with lovely birds and cool breezes. There were 3 ducks that greeted us daily and made us feel part of the family. The huge bed and couch were very comfortable. Not having a full kitchen gave me the perfect excuse to eat out or have my husband grill our dinners. There was also beach ware for us to use as we wished, (boogie boards, cooler, mats and towels). This place was a steal for the price and couldn't have been more perfect for us!

Thank you to host Julie, and puppy Pilot!

Enjoyable nights on Kauai

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent a couple of relaxing nights at Julies and enjoyed every minute. The location seems like being in the country with Duxter and the two Black ducks. The mountain, sleeping giant, a stream across the back yard and a stable with a donkey in the background, what a relaxing and enjoyable view.

Beach chairs, coolers, wet suit and many other things to help you enjoy Kauai. Julie had fresh fruit for us and gave us DVDs about Kauai. Great trip great hostess. Thanks Julie, Robert, Mary and Jacob

This place was amazing! I'll make a list of the things that I liked about it.

Very easy to find and great overall location

Beautiful scenery right in the back yard ( waterfalls can be seen after a rain)

The bed was very comfortable

Having a cook top and kitchen made it possible to cook fresh food and local food and saved us money as well

Parking was ample and covienent

It was quiet and peaceful

The bbq was great to grill up fresh fish and veggies

We will be sure to return!!

Thanks so much for the hospitality!!

Spent a month at this property.

  • 4 of 5

We liked the location in the hills as it cooled off very nicely for sleeping. The suite was very comfortable as was the bed. The accommodations were adequate for two people. The fruit and vegetables brought to the door was delicious and appreciated. Suggestions for additions to the suite would be an electric kettle, more dinner plates, dish cloths and tea towels. Would recommend if you want a quiet, secluded location.

great location for the best of Kauai

  • 4 of 5

We loved the coconut cost of Kauai and knew we would look for a rental there in our second trip to the island. The unit is comfortable the setting scenic and relaxing. Julie helped us with several suggestions. She was very welcoming sharinf an array of fresh fruit from her trees. The ducks, donkey and dogs made for some amuzing moments. The onlly downfall was hot plate rather than stove and limited counter space for preparing a meal. . There are plenty og great places nearby to dine out!

Beautiful property but too small a kitchen

  • 2 of 5

The property was beautiful with great views of the mountains and the waterfalls. The kitchen for us was a big problem- very small sink, no dishwasher and not many pots and pans. It was very hard to cook there with the space constraints. Also some basic kitchen supplies like salt, oil etc which other rental properties usually offer would be nice to have. Kapaa town is also 15 minutes or so away so it is not very close to what we wanted to do. We loved the ducks and the view from the condo but I don't think we could go back here again. Thanks for the fruits though Julie!

Owner's Response: Fully expected this review. I have never had a problem guest until now. These guests packed up and left without making the final payment. Full day of aggravation to finally track them down and then they blamed me for ruining their vacation. Glad they enjoyed to property, but I will have to be less lackadaisical about getting the final payment IMMEDIATELY upon arrival if guests have not make the final payment prior to arriving. For the record: salt melts and looks like someone has added an unknown liquid -- not so appetizing; there is a full set of pots and pans (6 total), code prohibits a full-sized sink and dishwasher -- this is not a condominium; and Kapaa is 5-7 minutes by car depending on whether I have to slow down for chickens crossing the road. Back to stress-free aloha living...
