Reserve soon! We're almost fully booked for the 2017 season!!
Lifeofrileylodge.com is the Yellowstone area's most nicely appointed waterfront vacation rental. Our goal is to deliver the most comfortable and luxurious vacation the Yellowstone area has to offer. Simply put, we don't believe we have an equal without driving hours to Big Sky, MT or Jackson Hole, WY, both of which are 1-2 hours further from the park . Life of Riley Lodge is one of the rare premier residences this close to the main (West/most popular) gate of the park. The lodge is a decades old original Yellowstone style hand-scraped whole log cabin which was completely renovated and newly decorated in 2015. Spanning over 3000 sqft with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths, the lodge sleeps 13 guests on 3 king size and 7 twin size Tempur-PedicTM and pillow-top mattresses. We are also among the less than 3% of Yellowstone area rental houses with air conditioning. We are one of the only rentals to provide trash removal service, electronic keypad locks (no lost keys!) and a full exterior CCTV security system for your safety. The Yellowstone basin can get very hot in July/August and we think AC is a must for a luxury vacation. Almost all area rental agreements require that you drop off all your trash at a landfill that is about a 1/2 hour drive each way, make you pick up keys, and require you spend the last day of your vacation laundering linens...inconveniences you will not experience with us! While there are a wide variety of housing options in the Island Park/West Yellowstone area, we are one of the only catering to an authentic yet plush and comfortable Yellowstone vacation experience that takes the rough out of roughing it. With a private shoreline set between towering mountains on bucolic Henry's Lake - this is the area's premier lake if you want to still feel like you are in Yellowstone. Island Park Reservoir, for instance, is in a mostly flat valley frequented by the motorsports crowd, a totally different experience. From our doorstep you can enjoy trophy fishing, hiking, rafting, horseback riding, or ATV/UTV tours just 10 mins away…contact us to learn more about the Yellowstone vacation you have been dreaming about.
A word of caution: a good portion of the area rental properties are also currently listed for sale. We are not, nor will we be. Be sure to inquire as this may result in the cancellation of your reservation or walk-throughs during your stay.
Bordering Yellowstone at an elevation near 7000 feet, we are located on the private shoreline of Henry's Lake, on the Idaho/Montana border. Henry's is one of the most renowned and award winning trophy fishing lakes in the country due to world class scenery and the Idaho state record for the largest trout caught! Google it!
Drive through the lodge's big gate to park and then immediately soak in the 360 degree waterfront and mountain views. Next, enter the cabin on the 2nd floor which opens to the Great Room and kitchen. The wood burning fireplace towers over two dueling custom American made Bradington & Young distressed leather sofas, the finest hand made rugs, an all hardwood dining table with 10 upholstered chairs and three barstools at the adjoining bar- enough seating for a full house to enjoy meals together. The chef's kitchen has new appliances and is fully outfitted with literally everything you will need to serve a gourmet meal to all of your guests. The giant great room is the main gathering spot and the best room for jaw dropping views.
Continuing upstairs on the 3rd floor is the loft and master suite. The cozy quiet loft is above the fray and is the perfect place to read a book or watch the wildlife on the lake with a giant panoramic view, this is perhaps the most relaxing place in the house. Past the loft is the master bedroom suite. Perfect for the small family with child and completely redone with all new furniture, fixtures, a twin size and a king size bed, both with Tempur-Pedic mattress and Ralph Lauren bedding , the lodge’s largest suite is its finest. Including a large desk plus high-speed WiFi with everything the vacationing executive will need. Within the master suite is the master bath with full bath and multiple head shower. The other half of the suite is complimented by two tweed Churchill recliners and a new 50” Samsung LED TV/BluRay DVD/DirectTV DVR. The king size bed is separated with a small partition wall from the twin bed for a little extra privacy, yet still open enough to one another so that parents can hear their little one through the night.
Back down to the main floor are two additional king bed suites: the Lodgepole Suite and the Madison Suite and a full bath complete with one of two laundry facilities.
The Madison Suite has views of the lake and Continental Divide mountain range, American made Woolrich and Ralph Lauren bedding, king size Tempur-Pedic mattress, all new furniture and fixtures, TV/DVR - easily the lodge's most masculine suite. This suite comes complete with large walk in closet, black velvet chair, and New Zealand Shearling rug.
Next, the Lodgepole Suite with views of the Continental Divide. Very much living up to it’s name, the slightly larger Lodgepole Suite is the lodge’s most rustic. Complete with American made Woolrich and Ralph Lauren bedding, Pillowtop king size mattress, sitting bench, new fixtures and a 32” Samsung LED TV with BluRay DVD, Direct TV and Wifi. This is the where to sleep for a 100% authentic Yellowstone experience.
Down the stairs and located on the first floor is the 6-bed Bunk Room, 3rd bathroom, gear & xtra laundry room, and theater. The theater has a gas fireplace surrounded by a massive 250 yr old timber mantle, new carpet, and new leather furniture and recliner. Decorated with a nod to adventure, science, exploration, and archaeology, the theater has a new immersive 70” Samsung LED screen hung above the fireplace, Bose surround sound system, Blu-Ray DVD, Direct TV DVR with nearly every channel, and a new HD retro Atari console with all your favorite games from the 70’s and 80’s. Perhaps on those bad weather days the kids will not be the only ones playing video games.
Located behind the theater on the first floor is the Yellowstone Bunk Room with six large private bunks with a view of a small meadow, this is the perfect place to sleep the kids or adults on heavy and safe USA built wood bunks. Featuring both innerspring and memory foam mattresses, no expense was spared on any detail. Warm Pendleton Woolen Mills Heritage Camp Blankets and fleece indian blankets from Oregon adorn each bed, vintage metal and wood Yellowstone signs, and a giant Yellowstone Junior Ranger Fire Brigade locker room themed dressing room-you won't feel like you ever even left the park. Adjoining the bunk room is a big multi-entrance bathroom with rain shower. The Bunk Room can help comfortably accommodate a packed house without the need to share beds. Including a small sofa, 2 matching Samsung LED TVs for gaming and TV viewing at the same time (so no arguing amongst the kids), and new Sony BluRay Playstation 4 with wireless controllers, WiFi, and parent lockable DirectTV content. Life of Riley Lodge tries to go the extra mile by supplying a high-chair, baby gate, Pack'n'play, board games and enough active indoor and outdoor game options so that your children are guaranteed to go to bed exhausted and content every night.
For our favorite part of the lodge though, look outside under the four giant shade sails and find the main attraction - the lakefront promenade. New outdoor kitchen with XL grill bed, 2 stovetop burners, extra searing grill, lighting, mini fridge and prep table, two 2-person hammocks, duel 150lb cast iron fire-pit pagodas surrounded by tons of adirondack chairs framed against 360 postcard views...you start to understand why the property is categorically superior to all other competition. - Private. Secluded. Secure. Perfect.
The property also includes fenced mature tree lined borders with professionally manicured/lit grounds complimented by a completely paved driveway, oversized sports court, and even an elevated 45' RV pad with full hook ups with its own great view of the lake and mountains over the cabin. The entire view behind the cabin is of the slopes and granite ridges of part of the Continental Divide shelf. To the front of the cabin is the lodge's private shoreline and combined with the upper wood deck the lodge has over 3000 sqft+ of outdoor living space. Free firewood is included for our guests. If you are wondering, across the lake the BIG snow capped peaks are the Sawtelle mountains but you can also see the Yellowstone and Teton ranges in the distance across the plains on the other side of the lake from our shoreline. No other neighborhoods in the West Yellowstone area have a view of all these mountain ranges except ours. As they say, location location location.
At your request, when you rent Life of Riley Lodge we will go beyond what the competing luxury Yellowstone vacation rentals will do by offering a custom one on one concierge consultation and survey at the time of booking. Far away from any major city, enjoying the Yellowstone area beyond the typical crowded tourist experience requires advance planning and insider knowledge of what to plan, when and why. Born and raised near Yellowstone and seekers of the finer things in life ourselves, we at Life of Riley Lodge are uniquely positioned to help you create experiences that most Yellowstone visitors do not even know exist. No need to try and guess which restaurants are excellent..where the secret Yellowstone spots are... where to source proper equipment, gear and guides for your boutique adventure. From private chuck wagon and sleigh rides for the kids, to joining dinosaur digs for the family, to romantic helicopter tours with private chef for adults, let us help you arrange a perfect stress free vacation to the Yellowstone/Montana/Island Park area.
Based in Oregon, we are Montana natives who bought lifeofrileylodge.com for use as our home in the winter and to share with our guests in the spring summer and fall. From our family to yours, we hope you enjoy the lodge as much as we do.
Sarah Thompson purchased this cabin in 2014
Located between Yellowstone National Park, Big Sky Ski Resort, Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole...we knew the Island Park/West Yellowstone area sits at the nexus to them all. The Madison River. The Yellowstone River.Countless mountain waterfalls and lakes. With the world famous Henry's Fork of the Snake river and Henry's Lake literally at the doorstep of Life of Riley Lodge, we could not think of a more ideal location to enjoy the crown jewel of the american outdoors.
*Closer to Yellowstone than almost any other luxury residence. You will be surprised how long it takes to ACTUALLY get to the park from most of the other luxury residences in the area.
*More king size beds and higher quality bedding than any of the competition.
*Most area properties require you to wash your own linens, we are a luxury property and do not.
*Air Conditioning. One of the VERY few properties with AC and it does get very hot up here especially in June-September.
*Free trash pick up. We are one of the only area properties that do not make you take your own trash on your vacation to a strange landfill a 1/2 hour away. The little details make all the difference up here.
*Private shoreline set between towering mountains on bucolic Henry's Lake - not the IP reservoir which is in a mostly flat valley frequented by the motorsports crowd.
*Brand new high-end electronics, appliances, mattresses, and furniture.
*Waterfront/beachfront, private fishing, and manicured grounds.
"Riley and Sarah have a beautiful home in a stunning & spectacular location. The whole house & kitchen is so beautifully labelled & organized that it was very easy to settle down and be at home. We are taking back very pleasant memories. Best wishes!"

This is a terrific property to call "home" for a few days. Extremely well appointed, with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable (right down to the complimentary movie candies and popcorn in the theater room!). The house is well designed for families, with the master suite occupying the 2nd story loft area with its own smaller media center. The main floor has the kitchen, dining room, a seating area with fireplace, and 2 bedrooms. The walkout basement contains the theater as well as a bunk room for the kids, and is isolated enough from the rest of the house that the kids can turn up the volume on Shrek if they choose.
The property provides great access to West Yellowstone, and provides a good launching pad for points of interest in the western part of the park (Mammoth, Old Faithful, Norris Geyser Basin, etc). Other points further east are also accessible, but be sure to account for slower driving speeds, buffalo jams, etc. as the eastern points of interest turn fairly quickly into a day trip.
If you don't feel like cooking, 3 nearby restaurants stood out to us. Madison Crossing, in West Yellowstone was the best fine dining we experienced in the area. Reservations a plus. The Buffalo Bar, also in West Yellowstone, is the casual stop on the way back to the lodge after a long day in the park. Bar food with a creative twist. Going the other direction to Island Park, The Trout Hunter has both great food and a terrific location on Henry's Fork. Angler's Lodge is a beautiful building with food that is just "ok". But it is interesting to pay a visit for a drink, take in the lodge, and then go home and watch the episode of Gordon Ramsey's "Hotel Hell" that features the makeover of the lodge and restaurant.
Our family (7 adults) enjoyed a week at this beautiful vacation home. We found all amenities just as presented in the photos and described by the owners (and the other multiple 5 star reviews). The owners were always available to answer questions. The floorplan and property layout provides multiple comfortable social spaces and plenty of privacy, as well as outstanding lake and mountain views from every common area. The kitchen was fully equipped and well-organized. Extra refrigerator downstairs, 2 sets of brandnew washer/dryers. We appreciated all the labels on light switches and shelves throughout the home, so easy to find everything. All of the furniture, appliances, bedding, throw blankets and pillows, plentiful towels (including beach towels) are comfortable, beautiful and new. The home is spotless. We appreciated the thoughtfulness of the owners (clear instructions on maximum comfort with air conditioning), great advice on sites, activities, grocery shopping, and restaurants. Excellent WIFI and cell reception (ATT and Verizon). Plenty of comfortable seating in TV room (Olympics watching every evening!), lots of lovely throw blankets and pillows everywhere. Cozy blankets to use outside by the fire place when stargazing. Wonderful outside seating (waterfront lounges, pillows, shaded hammocks, adirondacks, picnic benches, rockers) grill on deck outside kitchen, and beautiful doublegrill at waterfront. Plenty of green yard for frisbee. Short drive to Yellowstone West Entrance for our multiple daily visits to the park. We flew in and out of Jackson for best nonstop options. We stocked up on groceries etc. in Jackson (per owners’ recommendation) after enjoying a great restaurant, we enjoyed scenery on the easy 2+ hour drive to the house. We spent another day enjoying Grand Teton National Park on the way back to the house from an early AM Jackson airport pickup of two of our group. One of our favorite days was spent midweek at the home, relaxing and enjoying all the amenities. We would highly recommend this home. The owner was delightful to work with!
Our family booked a week to enjoy the Yellowstone area. The cabin was perfect for our two adult children, spouses and 6 grandkids. The bunk room was perfect for the kids ages 11 yrs - 5 yrs. Sarah was the perfect host, providing us with activities in the area and info on closest medical facility just in case one of the kids asthma acted up. Didn't realize how many games and movies the cabin had and monopoly and uno challenges happened most evenings. Could I change anything? Nope, it was perfect!
Wow this property made for a magical trip! Before we left Sara did a fantastic job of giving us tips about the area - when I mentioned I was traveling with my two year old toddler (who sleeps in a crib) and I asked if she had a pack n play on the premises, she responded by saying she had just gone out and purchased one and a crib mattress for us! Who does that! It is that kind of customer service that made this trip so special. She was available to call whenever we had questions, and she even contacted us to let us know that there was going to be a meteor shower one night and it would be clear conditions.
We had multiple generations (65 year old grandparents, us 30 year old parents, 17 year old sister, 2 year old daughter) and everyone felt taken care of. Plenty of games and DVDs and anything you could think of, plus lounge chairs and hammocks right on the lake. If you are looking for multiple families traveling together, this is the place for you. It was easy to get into the park from this property, but lovely at the end of the day to have such a nice play to go home to. We even spent one day just hanging out at the house relaxing, never feeling bored or stuck at all.
The beds were comfy, and everything felt top of the line. I really can't recommend this place enough!
Amazing property with beautiful views. Very close to Yelllowstone Park which makes for perfect day hiking trips to park and able to come back with nice evening views down by the lakefront. All amenities were nice and very organized. Sarah was so helpful in planning our trip even with suggestions on specific requests. Thanks for helping us to have such a wonderful vacation!
The property was great, the owners really put a lot of thought into everything to ensure nothing was lacking in any way. The kitchen was really well stocked with all things you need to entertain/cook at the home. This is one of the very best rentals I have gotten through VRBO. Sarah was very helpful in ensuring that everything went smoothly, and provided great info on things to do in the area, restaurants, grocery stores, etc... My family and I would love to return and see Yellowstone again, if we do we will most certainly be staying at the Life of Riley Lodge!!!
