We have lived on the ranch for 30 years. We are lucky enough to get to manage the family ranch. We have three kids who help us out whenever possible. The ranch is a family venture! The Deerwood Ranch is now a Wild Horse Eco-Sanctuary. Wild Horse viewing is available.
Jana Wilson purchased this cabin in 2011
The Deerwood Ranch has been in our family for 33 years. The Centennial Valley is one of the most scenic landscapes we have ever seen. Falling in love with this country is easy to do!
While staying at the cabin our guests can walk, hike, fish, take a ranch tour, mountain bike, cross country ski and enjoy their beautiful mountain surroundings. Photographers will be thrilled with the photo opportunities. We have a firepit in the yard so campfires are enjoyed by many. The cabin sits on the bank of the Middle Fork of the Little Laramie River. Let the sounds of the river lull you to sleep at night with your window open to breathe the fresh mountain air. As of October, 2012 we are a wild horse eco-sanctuary. Guests can enjoy viewing the horses and seeing them in their natural surroundings. We also have deer, elk, antelope, moose, fox, coyotes and other animals that might be seen while out siteseeing.
This was the best Christmas with the family. The scenery and cabin was the perfect. Best place to unplug and spend time with the family. First day we took a 2 hour walk it was amazing the scenery with the sun shinning on the snow, sit in back just listen to the river/creek was so relaxing. The next morning woke to a light snow perfect Christmas morning. Later that day the wind pick up but inside the cabin was a perfect Christmas day with the family.
We loved it so much that are looking at dates to rent for a week this summer.
My husband and I ventured off for a two week, 30th Anniversary vacation, with Deerwood Station Guest Cabin as our final stop. We enjoyed the quiet, peaceful surroundings and the solitude of the cabin. We also found plenty to do, as we chose! We traveled Hwy 130 and hiked up Sugar Loaf and Medicine Bow. We went into Centennial and ate at the Bear Tree Tavern and enjoyed ice cream at Country Junction. The cabin is well furnished, comfortable beds, and is spotless. Being here and enjoying the 75-80 degree temperatures when it was 100-110 back home...priceless! If you have never been to this area you will be amazed at how beautiful and close at hand activities are, but there are almost NO other tourists around. How has this area been such a well kept secret? The only down side is the mosquito population, which was plentiful since we were right on a creek. Janna and Rich provide spray and citronella candles, which were so helpful. The hosts are fantastic, the hideaway easily accessible and the adventures-easy to be had.
My family and I recently concluded a 3 night, 4 day vacation at Deerwood Station. What a truly remarkable destination. Our days were spent skiing, snowmobiling, and simply enjoying the incredible vistas surrounding the cabin. The cabin was truly a home away from home, fully furnished, including a full size washer/dryer. Rich and Jana were wonderful hosts, and we are already planning a return next year!
My son and I recently concluded a 5 night stay at the cabin and it was a great time. We have visited Centennial many times for the trout fishing, but this was our first time to stay at Deerwood Station. There is no question about where we will be staying for all future trips. The cabin is everything you could wish for when looking for a place to get away and just relax. Everything inside and out is very clean and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked with not only the cooking items and dishes but some basic staples for preparing meals.
Rich and Jana are very friendly and will do everything they can to make sure you have a great experience on their property.
We stayed here during a snowmobiling trip with my sons and husband. While they explored the nearby trails, I enjoyed peaceful, relaxing days by the fire reading my book, crocheting, and watching giant snowflakes fall. The creek steps from the back door was picturesque. This cabin has all the amenities yet maintains the charm of a remote log cabin. The owner couldn't have been easier to work with and we enjoyed visiting with him Sunday morning. The first VRBO property we attempted to book for this trip was very rude and difficult to deal with. By contrast, the owners of this property couldn't have been nicer. We look forward to booking this property again!
This is a place that will bring you back again and again. The worst part is when you have to close the door on the end of your stay. This cabin is clean, exceptionally well-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities and all in western decor that couldn't be more welcoming and comfortable. We have stayed on more than one occasion and have brought our grandkids to take the tour of the wild horses. We had the added bonus of seeing cranes on the drive out. There are clear night skies for evening walks and the most relaxing back porch. And if you wait, the dogs will come for a visit and bring their own sticks to play fetch. Paisley loves to leave a stick by the door so you know she is ready to play. We head over to the nearby cross-country ski trails to ski or snowshoe and are never disappointed at the solitude and beauty. Kandi is always helpful, making sure you lack for nothing. The next trip we hope to experience the trail there on the ranch. We always cook in but there are a couple good places to eat within a few miles in Centennial or Albany and the ice cream at the local stop in Centennial is the best, according to my grandson.
Ranch tours are available upon request. We have almost 5,000 acres of mountain/ranch property that we truly love to share with people. After the tour our guests are free explore the ranch themselves. The Deerwood Ranch is a Wild Horse Eco-Sanctuary. The wild horses are located on the ranch and at different times of the year, can be within viewing range of the cabin. If not visible from the cabin, they can be seen on a guided tour for an additional charge.
