Everyone is talking about “le Haut Marais” in Paris – the center of creativity and style and home to Paris Fashion Week four times a year. This area of central Paris has taken off during the last decade with artists & galleries, boutique shopping for just about anything, great local restaurants and 18th century mansions & the most interesting small museums.
This flat is located on the quiet part of rue Charlot, yet steps away from rue de Bretagne which is the center of the neighborhood. All the the best boutiques, galleries and restaurants are located around this center point.
Recently renovated to the highest standards, the apartment has been designed for maximum comfort and relaxation. The look is modern and open with special touches including the old exposed beams, beautiful solid oak parquet floors and antique wooden doors.

HISTORY AND ART
The Marais is one of the oldest areas of the city and is full of historical sites and architecture. It is a very safe at all hours and has the added advantage of shops being open on Sundays which is rare in Paris. Only a 4 minute walk from the Picasso Museum, a must see. The newly renovated Carreau de Temple is just around the corner and a center for art, music, theatre and food events which is all part of the great entertainment in the neighborhood.
Be sure to visit the Marché des Enfants Rouges. It’s the oldest covered market in Paris and has a large selection of vendors selling organic fruits and vegetables, wines, fish, meats, pastries, and delicious cuisine from around the world. There are also ten open air restaurants in the market offering cuisine from around the world.
We are in the heart of the fashion and design district with many independent boutiques, vintage shops and well known houses. The best people watching in the world happens in January, March, June and September when the fashion world takes over the Haut Marais for Fashion Week.
An English and American family, we moved to Paris 14 years ago and have never regretted it. Our work takes us frequently out of the country as well as our latest project, a country home near Avignon. We are in love with this fascinating, beautiful city and so happy to share it with you during your stay in our home.
Tam purchased this apartment in 2004
This was the first apartment that we rented when we moved to Paris in 2002 and luckily the owners offered to sell it to us. Since then, we have seen rue Charlot transform into the best place to be in Paris. While just a few minutes walk from many top tourist destinations, our area retains a village atmosphere where Parisians from all over the city come to hang out on the weekends.
There are so many things to do as you are right in the center of Paris. Our typical weekend is go the markets, shop the boutiques, people watch at the cafes and then cook up an amazing meal for friends. Do not leave Paris without having a crepe at the Marché des Enfants Rouges next door!
This apartment is Parisian nirvana. It is perfectly located in the heart of the Marais in a fully-renovated building a stone’s throw away from a covered market and lots of food shops, boutiques and restaurants. It is extremely well-equipped, and feels like a home away from home. A mix of modern fixtures and stunning ethnic carved wooden doors give the apartment character, and the kitchen hosts everything a gourmet cook could need, including a huge selection of spices, a dishwasher, and a large refrigerator (by European standards). Not only was the apartment extremely comfortable, but we loved the artwork and the décor, the large washer and dryer, the shower, the cozy bed, and the roomy closet space. The owners were extremely responsive and helpful—and just a phone call away. We were paying for the privilege but felt like honored guests in their home.
We very much enjoyed this lovey, comfortable apartment. It contained all the amenities one needs for a relaxing stay in Paris - nice lighting and decor, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable seating. The apartment is located in a wonderful local neighbourhood of the Marais - there are wonderful shops very nearby for purchasing breads, meats, fish, fresh vegetables, cheeses and wine of course! We explored the area fairly well during our stay but the Seine is also only a 15 minute walk away. When you want to be more far flung, the metro is nearby and an easy way to get to and discover another area of Paris. The owners were great to deal with - always prompt and helpful with any questions. Would definitely recommend.
Wow what an amazing find! We were so lucky to be able to fit in a long weekend at this amazing apartment in Paris. Travelling at the end of the summer holiday with two little boys we had an absolutely fantastic stay. We’ve stayed in Paris a few times pre-kids and wanted something a little different on this trip. We really loved our short experience of ‘living in Paris’. Sounds cheesy, but really did feel like we lived in this apartment and were popping out for a croissant by the end of our stay.
For a busy part of Paris the apartment was very quiet, and we had the windows open for a nice breeze day and night. Our kids (4 and 7) loved the open plan feeling – very different from our house or any hotels. They slept on the roll-out and sofa bed, and there is a handy door/screen you can pull shut to close off their room whilst the grown ups stay up. Who whole place was really comfortable and relaxed, just what we needed to return to after a hectic day of touring Paris with our explorers.
Marais is a great locations, and the apartment is right in the centre, very easy walk from a handful of metro stations (we used all of them at different times), also an easy walk to the Siene, which we seemed to take a slightly different route to/from each time.
Couple of great boulangeries nearby, a small supermarket for the mainstream shop, and of course loads of cafes, bars and restaurants. There is a brilliant guide by the owners, which we used as a starting point, but then we found ourselves just wandering and exploring.
I’d highly recommend a late night Crepe on your way home, “La Droguerie”. Ham, cheese and olives. Yum.
My only suggestion/regret is forgetting to pick up some fresh coffee for the coffee machine every time we were out. The apartment just needs that aroma of fresh coffee first thing in the morning to really round off the Parisian experience. Loved it. Highly recommended.
We couldn't have been happier with our time in this beautiful apartment in Le Marais. The decor was warm and comfortable. One detail that we really appreciated was the lighting in the apartment - my husband loves good lighting and it was nice to be able to read at night or set a cozy atmosphere for enjoying a glass of wine at the end of the day. This seemed to be a rare rental where every single thing worked as advertised. We didn't have one problem with any of the appliances. Tam and Martin were extremely quick to respond to all emails and questions and are very welcoming. They left a notebook full of information about the apartment and the neighborhood which we found very helpful. We absolutely loved the neighborhood. We stayed close by and enjoyed the local cafes and shops most days, but also loved walking to Pompidou, Les Halles, and Notre Dame. Other destinations are an easy metro ride away. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable. My older teenage daughters (ages 17 and 19) slept in the fold out beds and our only complaint would be that those fold-outs were not super comfortable for adult-sized bodies. (They are young though and they were just fine!) The bedrooms face onto the fairly quiet street, but there is street noise at times. The windows do a good job of buffering the noise, but it was summer and we chose to have the windows open at night. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing ear plugs. We had a wonderful stay in this apartment and definitely hope to return again! Thanks, Tam and Martin, for your hospitality!
This was a wonderful apartment perfect for our family of 4. Two children ages 10 and 8. The apartment was homey and comfortable (beds were very comfortable). The hosts Tam and Martin were very hospitable and quick to respond to all our emails/questions/concerns. The kitchen had everything you needed and they had a drawer full of spices that you could use if you felt the need to cook. Everything was close by, shopping, groceries, restaurants, sights, etc. The hosts provided a wonderful binder that provided instructions for all appliances and suggestions for restaurants and places of interest. The kids loved that we could log into our Netflix account so they could watch TV and during our down time. The sonos speakers were a nice touch. The decor was beautiful. The wooden beams on the ceiling, beautiful carved doors on the closets, artwork, etc. Apartment was secure with two keypad doors before you enter, a lift ( uncommon in most apartments in Europe) and very quiet. You couldn't hear any of the neighbors above or below and the street was quiet. HIGHLY recommend this apartment and the hosts! Thank you Tam and Martin for a wonderful place to stay while we were in Paris.
This beautifully decorated apartment is a jewel in the middle of the Marais! No space wasted, very functional but also some amazing design at every corner. There's a full size very finely carved antique iron & wood gate (from Iran? India?) installed on the living room wall, as if you had just entered some Iranian palace (or indian for that matter!) The kitchen bar, with its tainted glass and cozy lighting, is a tempting invitation for an evening cocktail… which we did! :-) The en-suite bathroom skillfully decorated with emerald-style stones and richly furnished book-shelves stands comparison with any 5* hotel I’ve ever been. As for the location, rue de Bretagne is a 1-minute walk, with lots of excellent typical bars and restaurants to enjoy. Try Café Charlot, which is THE reference on this side of Paris, try its Sunday morning brunch (breakfast for early goers), watch people go by, you’ll get a perfect Parisian experience!
My mother, husband and I truly enjoyed staying in the well appointed and situated apartment in the Marais. Shopping and great restaurants all nearby, and within short walks to many of the points of interest we were excited to visit. We were met by the property manager, who provided us with all the information and tips we needed in perfect English. The owners had compiled a binder with detailed instructions on all the appliances in the apartment as well listings of nearby restaurants and local services, which was very thoughtful and truly appreciated. The apartment was roomy and well laid out, and the kitchen was awesome. We would recommend a stay in this apartment to friends and family.
