About Jeff Prostovich and Sharon Lovejoy
Comfort Found Literary Lodging was founded by the award winning author and illustrator Sharon Lovejoy and her husband Jeff Prostovich, a real estate broker in California.

Why Jeff Prostovich and Sharon Lovejoy chose Damariscotta
The first time I saw downtown Damariscotta I felt as though I had come home. The small village of old sea captain’s houses, the perfect New England churches and steeples and mid 19th century brick buildings huddled near the river touched my heart. One building in particular stayed in my mind. For decades, 112 Main Street was the apothecary shop for the town. Years later, the pharmacy was taken over by a country store (now a gallery) and the top two floors were turned into apartments. When the chance came to buy the building, we wandered through the floors up to the top level. It felt like a Paris (don’t laugh) apartment. Maybe it was the 33 steps, but I loved the high ceiling in the stairwell, the moldings, the funky 30's kitchen, the living room, and the two bedrooms. We had often talked about buying a small hotel to outfit with comfortable furniture and beds, antiques, art, and lots of wonderful books. When Jeff asked me what we should call it, I thought of the book Comfort Found in Good Old Books by George Hamlin Fitch. Written in 1911 by the book reviewer for the San Francisco Chronicle, Fitch’s book highlighted the most beloved of the books he turned to for comfort. He believed, as do I, that cultivating a love of reading is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Books bring the world to your easy chair; they give you wings; and they are ever faithful friends whether you need inspiration, edification, or consolation. Fitch believed in the verity of the old quote by Thomas Carlyle, “My books are friends that never fail me.” When our first guests checked into Comfort Found, they said, 'This is a HOME,' which was exactly how we wanted them to feel. Jeff and I would like to invite you to experience the real taste of New England in the warm and welcoming rooms of our dear 'Comfort Found.' I think you'll feel, as did our first guests, that you've stepped into a well-loved home. Thee is welcome here friend.

Great location - pleasant apartment with everything you will need for a nice quiet time. One block from the theater which I highly recommend you go to. The book store is down the street, shops are everywhere and some wonderful restaurants surround you.
Spacious and clean, very comfortable and affordable. We thoroughly enjoyed this gem, set right in the heart of the quaint town of Damariscotta. We'll be back!!

Love it here. Great location! Perfect starting place to explore other towns in Maine.
Beautiful apartment....felt like home away from home...very comfortable
Great spot in downtown Damariscotta. View of the harbor and walk to restaurants and stores. A great spot to launch "Mid Coast Maine" explorations north and south. Will definitely rent again. Thanks for sharing your place!
Location, Location LOCATION!!!!!!!
Very well furnished 3rd floor apartment. Extra clean and with many unexpected accessories. To top it all off - it was Pumpkin Festival Week! It's amazing what they can do with a 1700 lb. pumpkin.
Didn't rate it five stars due to the number of stairs.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and found the apartment clean, a must in our opinion.
We try to adequately advise our guests of the stairs and show them in the video in the listing. The building was built in the 1850s. A chair lift would make access easier for some, but would detract from the beauty of the interior stairwell and might present a trip hazard for people carrying suitcases.
The bird’s eye view of the Pumpkin Festival parade is a fun experience we have enjoyed ourselves.
Thank you for staying with us.
Jeff and Sharon
