Experience Maine in the Summer! Private retreat, oceanfront, Acadia, sleeps 12

Bedrooms 5
Space 3,500 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

5 private wooded acres, 300 ft ocean front on Frenchman Bay, in law apt

5 bedrooms, 4 baths, 2 full kitchens, 2 living rooms, and a family room!

The house is very private, on a 5 acre wooded lot with a rolling field in the back to the shore of Frenchman's Bay. It is set off the road, with a circular driveway and its very quiet, even though the house is located on the main road leading to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Downtown Bar Harbor is about 10 min away by car.

Oceanarium, lobster hatchery and lobster museum are just next door.

The main house has 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths. The Master bedroom offers a king bed, ensuite bath and private deck overlooking the ocean. Sip coffee from the deck and watch the early morning sea mist as it breaks away for the start of a beautiful Maine summer day. You will also find 3 more bedrooms located on the second floor.

The main floor is home to a kitchen, dining room, breakfast nook, family room and bathroom.

For even more space, there is an additional in-law apartment to the home with a private entrance. This adds another bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living room to the already 2000sq’ main house.

As if that’s not enough, add a large custom built deck, a fully screened in sun room both of which face the Bay, a 2 car garage, large rolling lawn and not to mention tons of privacy - it makes this property spacious and accommodating.

The kitchen is fully stocked with a double wall oven, dishwasher and large cook top with grill plus 4 burners.

If outdoor cooking is more preferred, simply utilize the outside grill while taking in the fresh Maine air. In the family room you will find an inviting space to relax, read a good book or challenge another to an game of chess.

With 300’ of ocean frontage, you will have the opportunity to spot many local birds of Downeast – puffins, loons, gulls and herons. Or perhaps you’ll experience the sighting of our nations symbol - the Bald Eagle – right here in Maine! Relax on the hammock and listen to the calls of nature, curl up with a good book or take a nap as you sway in the soft breezes rolling off the bay.

Whether you have come to relax or explore, Frenchman’s Bay Retreat is ideally located on Mount Desert Island near Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor. The activities, shopping and dining options are endless.

From early spring to late fall Bar Harbor is the Maine’s prime vacation destination.

Peaceful, quiet, beautiful surroundings with a large home for family

  • 4 of 5

My family found this home to be giant! There were so many rooms to explore that we didn't use all of them. A great location if your looking for a peaceful and secluded home with a short drive to Bar Harbor. Plenty of space for kids to hang out and run around.

Luckily we did not need the in-law space and would preferred to have known it was "upstairs" before arriving. But, if your using it for an additional couple, teenagers or traveling with another family, this would be a great option.

I know it may be common to not have air conditioning in Maine homes, however, it was quite hot and not all windows had full screens. The fans were a big help! Yes, secluded wooded home means many mosquitos!!

Overall, I would recommend this home as it was a great place for us to unwind and enjoy our time in Bar Harbor! I loved looking out the bedroom - including the balcony, kitchen and dining rooms to see the ocean and smell the fresh ocean air!

It fit our needs for a large family

  • 4 of 5

We found the house/grounds to be better than the pictures. This is our 6th vrbo rental in 4 years. We have the feeling this house has recently changed hands and become a rental. Some parts of the house have been remodeled well. Our experience here was great. Great property for a dog. Some things are missing which I'm sure the owners will improve on in time-no microwave, no potholders, lobster pot but no cracker or lobster utensils, excellent brand new towels but no wash cloths. Great home/location. Property manager very nice.

Bar Harbor is Maine's most visited tourist destination. Whether it’s from the endless recreational activities in the surrounding area or the vast beauty the region has to offer, Bar Harbor continues to attract thousands and thousands every year.

With stunning, often breathtaking view, Acadia National Park should not be bypassed! It is a hiker’s paradise and offers many trails from novice to master hikers.

The scenic ocean drive also known as Park Loop Road offers 27 miles of granite mountain views, rocky coastlines, sandy beaches, crashing waves, lakes, ponds, moss and evergreens. With many scenic stopping points along the way there are abundant opportunities to take some phenomenal photographs.

Don’t visit Acadia National Park and skip Cadillac Mountain! It rises 1532’ over the coastline and you can drive or hike to the very top! It is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and is the first place to view the sunrise in the United States! It offers panoramic views, parking and a gift shop.

Bar Harbor is home to many shops and eateries along Main Street. From the pier you can book a whale watching excursion, rent kayaks or take a windjammer cruise. The possibilities are endless.

Whether you come to Bar Harbor to “take it all in” or to “get away from it all” it will be a vacation you will never forget!
