This is the John Casey House, one of the architectural gems of historic Foggy Bottom.
The John Casey House was built in 1881 by one of the prominent Foggy Bottom architect-builders. The House is located on I street which is at the center of the residential Foggy Bottom Victorian neighborhood. We are within walking distance to the Mall and the Lincoln Memorial. The apartment has security features and is on a safe street. The front door of the apartment is protected with two doors with deadbolt locks.
The location of this "iconic apartment" is less than two blocks from the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro which is served by three lines, blue, orange, and silver. Also in the immediate neighborhood is an enormous Whole Foods, numerous wonderful restaurants serving healthy foods, a CVS, a Circulator Bus stop, and the GWU campus. We happened to run into a situation requiring emergent medical care, and the GWU ER/Urgent Care facility was right there. Jose Andres' Beefsteak Restaurant with its innovative bowls of steamed vegetables and grains was a real treat. We have nothing like that at home. As well, about a minute away, there is an excellent small fine dining restaurant in The River Inn. Both an Episcopalian and Roman Catholic church are less than five minutes' walk. We are senior citizens and appreciated the proximity of all of these services. As well, the owner of the apartment lives around the corner and was extremely helpful to us. The apartment itself is comfortable with a small living room and kitchen-dining room and a separate bedroom. Quality mattresses and two excellent flat-screen Infinity service TVs. We were there in winter, but there is a small patio for visitors during warmer weather. The house was built in 1881; do not expect a shell that looks inside like a 21st century sleek condo. Entry and exit are with a provided coded lock and we felt very safe. There were only a couple of steps leading to the front door. The apartment is clean and everything, including the provided landline phones works. There is good light for reading. We did no cooking while there, but the small stove appears to be new . We will definitely recommend this choice to friends visiting D.C. As Senior citizens, we appreciated the real proximity of services located in a beautiful, quiet, residential area.
The Foggy Bottom rowhouse was a wonderful place to stay during our recent trip to DC. The location provided easy access to Foggy Bottom, Georgetown and the metro station. The owner was extremely helpful and responded to our questions immediately providing advice and recommendations. The property was well maintained and comfortable.
The location of the property is excellent. It is an easy walk to the Metro and to a stand for Capital Bikeshare. There are a number of restaurants and a great Whole Foods within a short walk.
The only reason that I did not give this property five stars is because the owner and I agreed ahead of time on an early check in and when we arrived the apartment had not been cleaned from the previous visit. I called and emailed the owner and did not receive a response for a few hours. Ultimately, the apartment was cleaned within a couple of hours of our arrival and the owner provided us with gift cards to Whole Foods for the inconvenience, which was very kind. I would have preferred that the apartment be ready at our agreed-upon arrival and that the owner had more quickly responded when I contacted her that the apartment was not clean. But, in the end everything worked out for the best and I definitely still recommend staying at this apartment.
We stayed in the ground floor apartment which had everything we needed and a great air conditioner which was so important during the heatwave Washington experienced while we were there. Close to food market and Metro. Recommended!
Very convenient location, all the amenities as promised, easy to work with the owner - would stay again!
We stayed here for 2 nights. The location couldn't be better, close to eating places, grocery store and the metro. It felt safe even at night. The place was simple and clean and had pretty much anything you would need. Owner was responsive.
