Tranquility Lodge Vermont is a 6 Bedroom/bathroom -w/ separate guest cottage- holiday, vacation, wedding and event venue. Tranquility Lodge Vermont is located in the Jay Peak recreation area of the North East Kingdom of Vermont.
The guest cottage was named Owl's Head-after the Canadian Mountain it has wonderful views of.

Owls Head offers guests a way to enjoy Tranquility Lodge Vermont for a fraction of the cost. Guests will receive the same attention from us that others have appreciated so much. The attention to detail, the quick response time and the willingness TO go that extra step to make the time spent in Jay Peak a truly memorable and easy one!
A raving adventure at 'Tranquility Lodge Vermont' is like no other vacation you’ve ever experienced. Journey to our private mountaintop home, and you’ll find incomparable North East Kingdom Mountain views, pampering accommodations, hiking trails and warm hospitality. When you arrive -you will feel like you've made it home!
Our secluded home is located just outside the Village of Jay, Vermont- about 50 minutes North and East of Burlington, VT or 10 min from the Canadian Border and has been available for weddings and VT enthusiasts since January of 2013.
Why here? We both have a love and appreciation for the outdoors and VT’s landscape and culture. Some call it the simple mountain life. We certainly appreciate it- much like many of our guests.
We have had great families and friends that have all left a mark on us in some way. It’s the best part of owning and operating a vacation rental.
There is a lot of joy in learning about each group who comes but also the business side of–what makes people appreciate traveling. We have been fortunate enough to travel to a few places in life. Both of us work in Operations and understand management and people from two different perspectives. All of these things have leant themselves to why we put a good show on here!
We are available to guests as they stay. We act as a personal concierge to you before and during your time at the lodge. If you can dream it up we will work to make it happen for you. The Vermont Way!
Our reviews speak for themselves! We will be happy to make arrangements or point you in the right direction for your next Mountain Excursion in the North East Kingdom of Vermont (NEK). Come experience our hidden and secluded mountaintop setting and discover the treasures the crowds have yet to find.
Kristen and Jason Sotherden purchased this cabin in 2012
The amazing views, being able to walk to a swimming hole, having 40 acres, being in the NEK and next to Jay Peak and of course the beautiful lodge.
The location is perfect for people who want to do it ALL. That's us! We want to be able to go everywhere in VT and feel that Route 100 in Lowell/Westfield places you 1 hour or less from everything that makes VT a destination to go to.
Everything you need for a perfect outdoors getaway is included in this cozy cabin. All you need is to bring yourself and some food. The beautiful views are enthralling. The moment we pulled up, we loved the place. After walking in there was a hand written postcard, two Vermont beers in the fridge, and some dog treats on the counter for our fury guy. How much more could we ask for? The manual in the cabin is very thorough, with of plenty places to eat, things to do and see. We opted to spend the weekend entirely there this time, but if you want to get out around the area there is plenty to do. It might not be exactly on your way back, but if you have the time be sure to check out the Cold Hallow Cider Mill, in Waterbury, VT. There was pamphlet in the cabin. It was a great find. You can stay in, or venture out on a hike, or head to the swimming hole. We even brought our dog, who was excited to be in the outdoors. He even got away from us and ventured up to Kristen's house one morning, and she so was great with helping us get him back. I recommend asking for directions to the swimming hole. It was a nice little hike just down the road. There were also a few other trails they had freshly mowed around their property to check out too. We cooked every meal there, and everything we could have possibly needed was already there. From plates to a grill
I wish I had more time to check out all the beautiful sights, but we had severly limited time for our stay. Between both my Girlfriend and I we had only had one night to and that was cut down due to unforseen circumstances on our way to the property. Other than our time being cut short from our busy life's this cabin made the little time we had absolutely fantastic. I plan on coming back so I can have a chance to explore the land as it was absolutely beautiful from a quick glance.
After a 6 hour drive on main roads the GPS directs me to turn off the paved roadway onto a dirt road that seemed more like a trail as I continued. The sense of being away from it "all" quickly set in.
Owls Head is as described; A small basic cottage with a few kitchen gadgets, an awesome hot plate and a charcoal BBQ. This is not the place for those who like posh or refined accommodations. However, if you like basics and a step up from camping this is the place for you! I was right at home in the cottage, however I was yearning for a picnic table with an umbrella for lunch and dinner under the stars.
It sits off a dirt driveway at the edge of a large grass field. A very tranquil setting. if you are looking for quite days with a blanket under a tree, a bottle of wine with some cheeses. This leading into impressive sunsets over the mountains and the icing on the cake for me was the breathtaking light show when the sun finally faded away. Such a dense canopy of clear bright start light which brought to life the fireflies dancing over the tall grass field. I haven't seen fireflies since I was a child, thousands upon thousands flickering their little orange glow while dancing around the tall grasses. If this is what you're looking for, this is the place.
This description was my first night and each of my 4 nights was a repeat of the first.
I recommend the "four corners" swimming hole and a hike along the river if you're looking for a cool dip and adventure. It's a quick drive and way more impressive then the other swimming hole.
Mr. Milo, my Victorian Bulldog, loved the freedom. He was off leash the entire stay and had a blast. Running around the yard and through the grass fields was a real treat for this concrete jungle dweller. The hike down the river and swimming at "four corners" was exhausting for him, but he loved it. Milo even joined us at the campfire each night after his afternoon nap under the tree.
I absolutely would return and I strongly recommend a visit to anyone who needs some quiet time, a small adventure or romantic getaway.
Kristen, thank you for being so helpful during my planning and so attentive during my stay.
After having to cancel a reservation last minute, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find somewhere to stay (for a reasonable price) near Jay Peak on such short notice. Luckily for me, Kristen was highly responsive and extremely accommodating. It was great to find the cabin already warmed up and ready to go after such a long drive.
Everything was clean and exactly as described. Kristen even gave a dinner recommendation with detailed driving directions in case my GPS lost service. Staying at Owl's Head was particularly great since it was just a short drive from Jay Peak and from the general store and inn. I couldn't have asked for a better place to retreat to after a long day on the slopes. Having the fire pit next to the cabin was a great option too, especially on clear winter nights.
We had a great time at Owl's Head. The cozy cabin was exactly what we were looking for in our weekend away. Kristen and Jason were great providing us with everything we could need including fresh eggs!! Kristen also suggested a great area that we could take our young dog to run around and explore. We will definitely try and come back in the summer for another adventure!
This was our second time staying in the cabin and it was even better than the first time! They have done some updates to it. There was a new sink, a new shower, fresh stain on the outside and internet. There is a DVD player with movies so you can snuggle up and watch a good flick after your fire. We brought our puppy and there is so much space for her to run and play! The foliage when we went was great and Kristen was so quick to respond to any of our messages before getting there. We will be back!
We will definitely be returning! Owls Head had everything we needed and more! I also had the pleasure of meeting Kristen, she was very nice and helpful i recommend meeting if you have the chance!! Overall loved it.
