House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.75+ Baths, (Sleeps 6-12)
Sisters- Friends-HOME! We grew up in this home, and it holds wonderful memories for both of us. We'd love to share it with you as well. Since we both live in the southeast part of the US now, we can't just let this vacation home sit without anyone enjoying it! Allow us to share some of our family heritage with you. The home we grew up in, on the lake we love, in the peaceful woods that give us the roots in our lives.
Linda purchased this House in 1972
Why Linda chose Frederic
This is our family estate home. Built by our parents in the early 1970's without borrowing, selling, or leaving a debt. A memorial boulder is at the side of the yard area commemorating their respect for the beautiful woods and lake area we still call 'Home'.
What makes this House unique
We love the beautiful walks along the lakeshore, swims in the crystal clear waters of the sand bottom lake, and fishing in a rowboat or right from the shore. There is always time for a hike through the woods, watching for deer and other wildlife at the stump with the salt block in it, or enjoying the squirrels and chipmunks frolicking through the tree branches. As a family we love game time, and movie time, a walk through the woods, row boat and canoe rides, puzzles, and meals together. Whether you want to read, and be quiet, go fishing, or play in the lake, there is something for you to do at Guthrie Pines. Bonfires in the evening are so relaxing, and it is always fun to make s'mores! Or just relaxing in front of the fireplace inside in the rocking chair, if that fits your style more. We have added a fire pit by the lake with log stools or outdoor chairs around it for bon-fires and making s'mores, or even roasting your hot dogs! It's a beautiful view at night, and a great place for making memories with family and friends. Lots of firewood for this bonfire area is stacked nearby, or grab wood from the surrounding woods area. (Please DON'T use the inside fireplace supply, near the garage, for this bonfire pit.) Nearby state parks offer other interesting things to do, and the local festivities in the summer add great fun to the time, 'Up North' at Guthrie Pines. Nearby rivers (AuSable and Manistee) are famous for canoeing, and there are golf courses in abundance in the area. This a beautiful seasonal place to go. The summer fun on the lake and relaxing is so pleasant. The hardwood and evergreen forests surrounding the house, make the Fall a beautiful time of year to visit. Springtime bursts with new life in the woods as the leaves bud and turn green. Sorry-winter is unique, but the house is not able to be open during the winter months.

Secluded with a view
This was our first time staying at Guthrie Pines. We really liked how secluded this cottage was and even more please at how clean everything was. My kids really liked how the fire pit was right on the beach just feet from the waters edge. The biggest up side to that was most nights there was a little breeze from the lake and that kept the mosquitoes away. The lake itself was amazing. One of the cleanest and clearest waters you will find. It rained one day and we tried to get the tv to work and couldn’t but there were movies so we watched one of those. No big deal really because we aren’t inside much. My kids already started asking me when we can go back again. I will definitely keep this place on my short list of places to stay!
Thanks so much for coming and enjoying our "happy place"!
Quiet, comfy "up North" vacation.
The property is pretty much as described -- an "Up North" family retreat. The home is spacious, with many comfy seats for reading, watching movies, or conversing. The screened porch was designated by my son as our "happy place" for lounging or dining. The piano was a pleasant feature. As is customary in an up North cabin, hardly anything matches; but we found everything that we needed. The lake is lovely, crystal clear, and not even *too* cold. The setting is so quiet that the silence almost made my ears ring! There was what we assumed to be artillery fire one evening. It sounded like far-off fireworks, and was not disturbing. We loved the sound of the loons calling back and forth! Our 23-month-old grandson enjoyed playing in the sand, splashing in the water, and (with some help) ringing the dinner bell. (If anyone finds a pair of toddler sandals under a fern or buried in the sand -- well, donate them to a good cause. :-)
As advertised, the wifi coverage is spotty at best. That can be a "bug," or it can be a "feature." Just the way it is up North, and something of which to be aware.
Thanks Deborah! Glad you enjoyed our place. Hope to see you again!
I love the nature there it is just perfect ! It has everything you ask for.
The setting is so helpful, we had a great time !
Thank you Linda and Barbara will be back 👍🏻
The house is spacious and had plenty of room for a large group. The kids had a fantastic time on the floating mat and the lake is beautiful!
YAY! Thanks for coming and enjoying our special place!
Wasnt really happy with cleanliness of the house. There was food leftover from previous renters in fridge. Great location beautiful property on the outside. House could use serious upgrades though. For the price of rental thought it should be nicer. If you like old school cabin like experience this place is for you. If you're looking for more upscale accommodations not so much. The owners were great. Linda responded to our every question quickly.
No cell phones, no internet just incredible nature, a fabulous lake and a comfortable sanctuary.
SO glad you could come again!
Huckleberry picking, mushroom picking (In season),canoeing, State Parks, Canoe Races, Casinos within 40 miles, indoor water park and spa within 75 miles, Mackinac Island and Straights of Makinaw 75 miles away. Sault Saint Marie and Canadian border within 2 hours.
National Guard Artillery range a mile to the East. You may experience the noise of artillery practice, jet or helicopter fly-bys, or flares in the night which light the lake. There is not a danger to the inhabitants of the lake area. The range firing is NOT a continual racket but an occasional noise which may be bothersome to a few. Remember they are the sounds of Freedom! This activity does not bother the fish-they have lived with it for years and there is great fishing still.
