Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Melrose - Santa Fe Lake Penthouse

1 bdrm 1bath,large great room,sleeps 6, deck, dock, quiet, private,clean,pretty

This lovely upstairs cottage is very pretty, quiet, peaceful, and clean. It is well stocked. It has wifi and satellite tv. It has a deck to enjoy the sunsets and a dock to tie up your boats. The white sand beach is great for swimming and relaxing. There is plenty of decks and shade. You can fish off the dock (I'll tell you the secret to fishing Santa Fe Lake) and enjoy motoring around this beautiful lake. Santa Fe Lake is 3 1/2 miles wide and seven miles long (6800 acres) and has a lot of character. It is a great place for a family vacation and make to childhood memories.I don't have a lot of rules and regulations and want you to come in and feel completely at home. There is an acre of land with room for games and plenty of parking for cars and boat trailers with easy in, easy out access. We are located 25 miles from Gainesville and the University of Florida. Theatres, sporting events, museums, and fine dining are all available. A fine golf course is within a couple of miles and PGA courses at Jacksonville are about a 50mile trip. A grocery store is within a mile. Two small towns are within 4 miles. Melrose is very artsy and there is a coffee talk every Wednesday with locals meeting to enjoy music, coffee, snacks and each other. Its delightful. Keystone Heights is friendly and safe and lots of little shops.. It is a peaceful country atmosphere with no traffic hassle. I am an artist and the place decorated with mosaics, yard art, plants and is interesting and pretty. Once you have been here you are like family and are always welcome. My home is also on the property but I am gone most of the time (My Mother is 100 yrs old) and the place is yours alone. I love for you to come in and be completely at home and I will help in any way I can to see that your time here is perfect. I even try to control the weather and the bugs but actually I am not to good at it. I love to share this beautiful place and would love to have you vacation here.

This is the only rental on the property and you are not sharing the white sand beach or dock. It is completely private and for you only while you are here. Below the upstairs cottage is a garage with nothing going on in there to disturbe you. My home is also on the property but I am gone most of the time. The 100 ft water front is for you and your family only. It is quiet, peaceful, private, clean, pretty and well stocked. And I am here to offer any help. I can to point you to the local grocery store, restaurants etc. and introduce to the lake and the area. This is an unfound area of Florida and there is no husstle and bustle or traffic. Santa Fe is a large lake and sometimes is slick as glass and then a breeze can churn up some waves. The sunsets are glorious. Usually a lake breeze keeps it cooler and there is shade to sit and read or relax.

AVAILABLE FOR WINTER MONTHS @$1,200.00mo: Get out of the cold and spend your winter here in sunny Florida. This is a beautiful place to spend the winter. It is quiet, peaceful ,and private but close to restaurants, shopping, entertainment. Fish off of the dock or take a day trip to the beach or Cedar Keys, or to Disney. Twice my winter renters have fallen in love with the area and bought a home nearby. I lost them as renters but have them as good neighbors and friends. Keystone Heights and Melrose are both 4 miles away and are friendly, lovely, laid back little towns. Lots of churches, beauty shops, a couple of grocery stores, and we even have fitness centers. There are trails for walking or biking. We have an ice cream shop and a golf course. Come and join us. November and/or December are available and so is January, March and/or April. Come for one month or most of the winter. You will fall in love with this area . It is an unfound lovely, safe area of Florida.

About Jeanne Breedlove

My home is also on this property and I have enjoyed living here since 1972. My kids grew up here. I am an artist and the whole place is decorated with my mosaics, and yard art. The garage is my work shop and I really enjoy creating new pieces.

Jeanne Breedlove purchased this cottage in 1972

Why Jeanne Breedlove chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

This property is set on a bank and the lake has a beautiful white sand bottom. Perfect for swimming and a safe place for children. The sun sets are glorious. The lake is so large that a storm can whip up huge breakers. The lake has so much character. Every day beautiful and different.

What makes this cottage unique

The setting just brings piece to your soul. Vacationers come in all exhausted and keyed up and every day you can see them relax more and more. It is quiet and peaceful and soothing here. A perfect get-a-way from lifes hustle and bustle.

Perfect for a fishing getaway!! Not the Marriott, but for 1/2 the price all you could ask for.

We came in late Saturday and called the owner to let her know. She is a sweetheart, she said "I'll leave it open and just catch you in the morning." The place is a small cottage up stairs behind the owners house, you have a nice view of the lake from the upstairs deck. Inside you have nice size bedroom with a comfortable living room, with a pull out sofa, a flat screen tv with cable tv, central AC with ceiling fans, couple of recliners, a small kitchen, fridge, stove equipped with glasses, cups, pots and pans. The boat ramp is right down the road about a mile, PERFECT!! SanteFe lake is awesome! Big nice lake with little Sante Fe connected for easy access for skiing and/or fishing.

You also have a nice circular drive way to park your boat at the cottage. A nice Restaurant close by was the Blue Water Bay, great steaks, seafood and oysters were awesome, huge buffet, and some local entertainment on Sunday afternoons. Overall, for the money decent lil place to stay. Just don't expect the Marriott! Definitely better than a fishing lodge. Hope this helps you in your search. R Crews Fernandina Beach, FL

Relaxing and refreshing

  • 5 of 5

We had so much fun staying at the lake house. The property is beautiful and we will definitely visit again. My kids loved being able to splash around in the water and we had fun having a picnic at the end of the dock. We had a relaxing and fun-filled weekend staying at the lake house.

Spotless, lots of closet space, comfortable bed, ample seating. Enjoyed the deck. The lake is absolutely

beautiful with a peaceful calm. The area is very safe; I thought nothing of leaving the main door unlocked

or just open. Definitely relaxing.

just perfect!!

What a great find Jeannie's beautfiul lakeside cottage was for us!!! I have a small sailboat and wanted to find a quiet rental on Lake Santa Fe where we could spend a few days sailing and relaxing. Jennie's spot is PERFECT! As other reviews mention, the cottage is super clean and stocked with everything you need. For boaters, you have great docking options - quick runs to the dock for lunch or picking up someone are easy. And overnight mooring is safe and secure. The lake is ideal for small to mid size boat sailing, and great for swimming anyplace you want to drop your anchor. Swimming at Jeannie's dock is great, too. This is a perfect get away, whether you come from near or far. We came from Gainesville - only 30 minutes away, and were so happy to find such a wonderful spot to enjoy so close to home. Jeannie is a WONDERFUL host. She even drove us to and from the boat ramp for our launching!!!!

Santa Fe Lake is a huge, beautiful lake perfect for boating, skiing, sailing, and my place has a great white sand beach for swimming. There is a dock for fishing and relaxing and boat tie offs. Fishing is great right off of the dock It is a private beach for the rental only. It is located nestled between two small towns. Four miles south is Melrose, a one redlight town known for its art galleries and restaurants. Four miles north is the two red light town of Keystone Heights. A beautiful, friendly place to shop and enjoy small town life. It is a quiet, peaceful, frendly area away from traffic, and big city bustle. We are located about and hour from either coast with plenty of recreation and entertainment close by. This is the only rental on this property and you have the full run of the place to yourselves. There is a large yard with a big circular driveway. Plenty of room for parking and boat trailer storage. I like for you to come in and feel completely at home here. I am happy to share this beautiful lake and the spectacular sunsets.

Melrose was settled in the second half of the 19th century at the crossing of the Bellamy Road (now State Road 26) and the Starke-Orange Springs Road (now State Road 21), near the Eliam Church and Shakerag race course, and about one mile from the older settlement of Banana. The new town was named Melrose after Melrose Abbey in Melrose, Scotland. It was reported that the ladies of the town did not want it to be known as Shakerag. The town of Melrose included part of the Shakerag race course, but there was no settlement at the Shakerag race course before Melrose was settled, and Tolles states that '[t]o say Melrose used to be called Shake Rag is poetic license.'

In the late 1800s, the citrus industry thrived in the area. Local growers would bring their yearly harvest to Melrose, where it was loaded onto steam ships in lake Santa Fe. The ships would then steam from lake Santa Fe to Lake Alto, and then Lake Alto to the town of Waldo using man made canals. The citrus was then taken by rail across the United States. Unfortunately, in 1894 two devastating freezes hit the Melrose area and destroyed local groves. Growers then relocated to warmer areas in the central and southern parts of Florida.

I tried to provide everything that I could think of to make your stay here as pleasant as possible. But if you need anything at all please just ask. I'll help out any way that I can. My home is also on the property but I live here alone and am gone most of the time and while you are here the place is yours. You are not sharing the beachfront with anyone else. It is quiet, peaceful, private and very relaxing here. And beautiful. I have lived here since 1972 and everytime I look out at Lake Santa Fe it is beautiful to me. The sunsets are spectacular and Santa fe Lake is large and different every day. Some times slick as glass with diamonds aparkling across the water and some time there are breakers and waves. There is good fishing right off of the dock. It is quiet, peacefull and relaxing. If you have any questions please call.
