Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cabin in Beech Mountain - Aspen Ski Loft

2 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths, Sleeping Nook; Sleeps 6; 1 King, 2 Queen Beds

The 'Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain' is a cozy cabin with large windows that provide amazing panoramic 100-mile long range views of the Appalachian Mountains. The Aspen Ski Loft is located just 50 steps from the slopes of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. The elevation of the Aspen Ski Loft is 5,200 feet, which ensures the views are awesome, cool weather during the summer, and lots of snow in the winter.

In September 2014, the kitchen was completely renovated by changing the footprint to provide a larger food preparation area and cooking space with new counter tops, including a full size convection oven with smooth cook top range, large built in microwave, new refrigerator with ice maker, and new dishwasher. In addition, all new kitchen cabinets and drawers were installed.

Also in September 2014, the windows in the kitchen and living room were replaced to provide clear, expansive long range views. In the summer months, the awning at the top of the windows can be opened to allow full house circulation of the cool mountain air. The new windows and increased insulation means better comfort in the winter months.

Also during the September 2014 renovation, the flooring in the living room and kitchen area was replaced, as well as getting a new leather sectional sofa, slipper chair, coffee table, and sofa table for the living room, as well as a new King sized bed, dresser, night stand for the guest bedroom, along with new mattresses and box springs for the master and guest bedrooms.

The September 2014 remodeling is in addition to previous renovations which have been done to continue to improve the experience for guests of the Aspen Ski Loft. Since purchasing the home in October 2010, we have added new ceramic tile in the lower level to replace the carpet, purchased new clothes washer and dryer, replaced the old inefficient fireplace with a new wood pellet fireplace, replaced the carpet and installed new windows in the master and guest bedrooms, completely painted the exterior and interior, added new lighting inside and out, and installed a Nexia Home Intelligence system for remote management of the door locks, thermostats, lighting, and water heater.

The main living area of the Aspen Ski Loft has a living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The Master bedroom has a queen bed, with a private bathroom with a Japanese soaking tub and a shower. The guest bedroom has a king sized bed, with easy access to the main bathroom. The finished lower level has a separate entrance, and has a den, a sleeping nook with queen bed, and the laundry room.

On the main level, the living room has a rock hearth with a wood pellet fireplace that keeps the house toasty warm. The wood pellet fireplace is controlled by the thermostat on the wall. With the touch of a button, you can have a real wood burning fire in 10 minutes. There is also a flat-screen LED TV with digital cable and DVD player above the fireplace.

The Aspen Ski Loft is located approximately 50 steps from the top of the 'Lower Shawneehaw' ski lift of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. You can literally walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start skiing or riding.

During the spring, summer and autumn, the Aspen Ski Loft is a great place for mountain biking and hiking. There are numerous biking events, and from June through mid-October, the Beech Mountain resort lifts are open to carry your bike to the top of the mountain for extreme downhill biking. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trail on and around Beech Mountain, with the Emerald Outback Trail being within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft.

Although the road is maintained by the Town of Beech Mountain, the Aspen Ski Loft is located right across the street from the ski slopes. Therefore there is blowing snow that accumulates on the road. A 4-Wheel / All-Wheel drive vehicle or snow chains are strongly recommended during the winter months.

The area in which the Aspen Ski Loft is located is one of the most unique areas in Beech Mountain. While this area offers stunning mile high views and proximity to skiing, it also faces challenges in terms of adequate parking for residents and visitors. Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft will be issued a temporary Parking Permit to be used during their stay.

Summers are cool, quiet and lovely, with time for shopping, hiking, whitewater rafting, golf and swimming, as well as Tweetsie Railroad and Emerald Mining for the kids. In addition, there is Grandfather Mountain nearby, with its mile-high swinging bridge and the wonderful Highland Games, which are held each summer.

During the autumn, all types of festivals are held in the surrounding area, including The Wooly Worm Festival and the Autumn at Oz weekend.

Beech Mountain is the highest incorporated town east of the Rocky Mountains. During the winter months, you have access to all the wonderful winter sports within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft, including downhill skiing, tubing, sledding, ice skating and cross-country skiing. There are three other ski resorts located within a 25 minute drive (Sugar Mountain, Appalachian, and Hawksnest).

The Blue Ridge Parkway is located just 15 miles from Beech Mountain, offering a beautiful 2 hour drive to Asheville, North Carolina.

Access to Beech Mountain Club - Golf, Tennis, Swim: Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft have access to the exclusive Beech Mountain Club, with access to golf, swimming, tennis courts, and the Fitness Center. Contact the owner of the Aspen Ski Loft for more information about access to the Beech Mountain Club.

Should you want to eat out, several great restaurants are very close by, whether it is a 10 minute drive into Banner Elk or 17 mile drive to Boone. For a small fee, guests have access to the Beech Mountain Club, with 18 hole Golf, Golf Clubhouse, fitness center, private restaurant, Children's Day Camp, tennis, Olympic pool and hiking.

Great for couples, honeymooners, retirees, snowbirds, young people, golfers, tennis players, skiers, snowboarders, tubers, etc.

About Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners

Roger and Michele Peterson live outside of Atlanta in Marietta, Georgia.

Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

After we were married in 1996, we enjoyed a ski vacation at Beech Mountain with our children. We decided to purchase a vacation home in 2010 and share it with our guests when we are not using it.

What makes this cabin unique

When we saw this beautiful rock home, we fell in love with it. The long-range mountain views from the living room / dining room / kitchen are amazing and beautiful! And being only 50 steps from the ski slopes is awesome!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Comment posted by owner on behalf of guest:

Roger and Michele,

The Aspen Ski Loft was a very comfortable and great place to stay. We enjoyed watching the grandchildren in view from the cabin getting off the ski lift and skiing down the mountain. However, we were not counting on four days of snowing which presented a handicap going up and down the many series of steps at the cabin and also digging out the car to go anywhere. On the other hand, we laughed exceedingly throughout the days at the amusement of watching many, many cars including the snow grader sliding around and digging out of the curve near the cabin!

We would like to add a comment on a particularly vendor, and that is Fred's General Store whose reception was fantastic.

Great get away

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the Aspen Ski Loft for a long weekend to just get away and celebrate my 41st birthday. The weekend was very relaxing; it was very nice to get away from traffic and every day life. We especially enjoyed our afternoon spent at the Banner Elk Wiinery that was about 20 minutes away. We also spent some time at Grandfather Mountain and Blowing rock. The drives and views were beautiful. The cabin was very clean and stocked with all the necessities. The best part was the view from the eating table. We also saw several deer almost within touching distance. Roger was very attentive and proactive in making sure that we had all the info we needed to enjoy our stay. The only thing that may be a negative for some (was not for us because we were looking for quite) is that it seems that during November there is not a ton of entertainment. The mountain was very quite which was nice for us.

Ps the elevation is very high especially if you are like us Floridians and used to being at sea level. Be prepared to breath a little heavy.

Owner's Response: Thank you Michael for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it! We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the Aspen Ski Loft to celebrate your 41st birthday. Yes, the Banner Elk Winery and Grandfather Mountain are two great attractions that are nearby. Thank you for your kind words about the Aspen Ski Loft being clean and well-stocked with everything you needed. Yes, the 100-mile, multi-layered mountain views from the dining table are awesome! We are glad you got to meet some of our deer neighbors when they came to nibble on the rhododendrons in the front yard. And thank you for your kind words about us being attentive to your needs and being proactive to make sure you had all the info you needed for your stay. Michele and I realize that it can be stressful when you are planning a trip to a place where you have never been, even for a weekend get-away vacation. That is why we make sure you have all the info you need. Yes, November is one of the quiet times at Beech Mountain. There are still beautiful leaves on the trees, which make for beautiful drives, and it is before the snow and ski season begins. We are glad you got to take advantage of the "November Special" with the lowest rates available at the Aspen Ski Loft. And yes, the elevation at the Aspen Ski Loft is about 5,230 feet above sea level, so the 40 steps from the driveway to the top level of the Aspen Ski Loft can definitely get you winded! Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, thank you again for writing a great review, and thank you for taking such good care of the Aspen Ski Loft. You and your family are welcome to be our guests again at the Aspen Ski Loft. - Roger

Location, location, location!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the Aspen ski loft for 2 weeks in August. The location was amazing - wonderful walking trails and streets, close to everything you could need and secluded enough for privacy. Wonderful view as I worked remotely from the dining table! Very well stocked home and the owners were very easy to work with. Clean and updated. My chubby senior dog, much to my delight, lost 3 pounds walking up and down the stairs to the house :) I would recommend the Aspen Ski Loft - wonderful getaway!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Naomi for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it! Yes, the Aspen Ski Loft is in a great location, for year-round activities! Michele and I are glad you and your family got to enjoy the Aspen Ski Loft with the summer-time activities of hiking / walking trails located within walking distance. And yes, the Aspen Ski Loft is located within walking distance of restaurants, Fred's General Mercantile, and the Town of Beech Mountain Police Department, yet the Aspen Ski Loft is also private and secluded. You can sit on the deck or work with the high speed, secure Wi-Fi from the dining room table, and enjoy the long range, 100-mile, multi-layered views of the Appalachian Mountains. Thank you for your kind words about Michele and I being easy to work with. We want you and all of our guests to have all the information you need, and have all of your questions answered. We realize that whenever you visit a place where you have never been, it can be stressful, even for a vacation or get-away. Thank you for your kind words about the Aspen Ski Loft being clean and updated. Michele is a great designer and decorator, and we are continually remodeling and making improvements to the Aspen Ski Loft. In fact, we have another round of remodeling planned this month for the Aspen Ski Loft, so stay tuned for more updates! I am glad your (chubby) senior dog lost 3 pounds going up and down the 40 steps of the Aspen Ski Loft from the driveway to the upper level. It is a long climb to the top, and the views and exercise in the mile-high elevation are worth it! Thank you for taking such good care of the Aspen Ski Loft during your stay. You and your family are welcome to stay again at the Aspen Ski Loft! Perhaps you can come back in the winter, in which the Town of Beech Mountain sledding hill is right down the street, or next spring when the rhododendrons are blooming! Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! - Roger

Excellent mountaintop vacation home.

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent stay at the Aspen ski loft. The highlight of the property is the view especially from the deck having breakfast or wine in the afternoon. Beds are very comfortable, kitchen very well-stocked, nice living room sitting area with high definition TV. Within walking distance of hiking trails and restaurants. Also live music at the umbrella bar on Saturday afternoon is a short hike up the hill. Saw deer in the backyard and from the deck. Road is very steep but no problem in the summer and very little traffic. Roger was very easy to deal with and was on top of any maintenance issues. I would definitely recommend this property to future travelers .

Great stay with great views

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the Aspen Ski Loft from 6/23-6/26 due to attending the Blood Sweat and Gears cycling event in Valle Crucis NC. The stay was great. The views were marvelous as you are near the top of Beech Mountain. The property was well kept and comfortable. The owners were great and even helped me around 9pm the night we arrived to get the WiFi working correctly (thanks Roger!). The only down side for us was that many of the better places to eat in the area (in our opinion) were in Boone NC which was approx. 30-45 min away. This place is certainly on our radar to stay at again.

Owner's Response: Thank you Josh for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it! Congratulations for completing the Blood Sweat and Gears bicycle race! That is quite an accomplishment! Yes, the 100 mile, multi-layered views are awesome from the 5,200 ft elevation of the Aspen Ski Loft. What a great way to relax after a day of biking! Thank you for your kind words about helping you with the Wi-Fi on the night you arrived at the Aspen Ski Loft. I am glad you were able to get connected! The high-speed Wi-Fi is secured, and sometimes the passwords for both the 5G and 2G can get a little tricky. Yes, there are some great restaurants in Boone, and we like the local places on Beech Mountain and Banner Elk. There is some great brick oven pizza within walking distance, and they have great wings also! In addition, there is a local craft brewery in the Ski Beech Village which has a great selection of cold, refreshing adult beverages! Thank you for taking such great care of the Aspen Ski Loft during your stay. You and your family are welcome to stay again at the Aspen Ski Loft. We are looking forward to having you return. Skyhigh Relaxation

  • 4 of 5

What a lovely home for a relaxing escape from the heat! The view is beautiful. Roger was so helpful (even though he was at a wedding and I interrupted his fun).

It is obvious that this home is loved. Renovations that have been done so far are great. The kitchen is well stocked (the only thing we wish was there is a griddle for making pancakes). All you need to bring is your food! Or, try the local restaurants. We went to Famous Fast Eddie's and Bullwinkels. Both had great service and food.

Lots of hiking trails and scenic views. Bring your hiking boots and camera!

A definite addition to my Favorites List!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Topsail Traveler for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it! We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the Aspen Ski Loft. Yes, the 100-mile, multi-layered views are magnificent! Michele and I are at the Aspen Ski Loft now, and are enjoying beautiful sunrises, and spectacular cumulus clouds in the afternoon. It is awesome to watch a thunderstorm in the distance! Thank you for your kind words about me being helpful. Michele and I want you and all of our guests to feel comfortable asking questions, especially when you go to a place where you have never been. Thank you for your kind words about the renovations we have done to the Aspen Ski Loft. Michele has an eye for design and decorating, and we have more remodeling plans for the future... so stay tuned! Yes we provide just about all the kitchen utensils that are needed... sorry we did not have a griddle for your pancakes. :(( And yes, we ate pizza at Bullwinkle's last night - - it was great! We are glad you enjoyed the hiking trails. The Emerald Outback Trail is right outside our door, and offers 7 miles of hiking around Beech Mountain. One of our favorites is to walk to the top of Beech Mountain to the 5506 Bar and the Land of Oz! Thank you for taking such good care of the Aspen Ski Loft, and for adding it to your list of favorites. You and your family are welcome to stay again at the Aspen Ski Loft! - Roger

Notes:
The Aspen Ski Loft has a wood pellet fireplace that is controlled by the thermostat on the wall. With the touch of a button, guests can have a real wood burning fire in about 10 minutes. The temperature is controlled by the thermostat. As the room warms, the fire adjusts according to the temperature setting on the thermostat. The Aspen Ski Loft has electronic keypad door locks which do not require a key. It is not necessary for guests to stop by the property manager's office to pick up a key, guests do not have to worry about losing the key during their stay, and guests do not need to return the key to the property manager's office. Guests are assigned an easy to remember 4 digit code that is valid for the duration of their stay. The code expires at departure time, so guests have added security because previous guest's codes are no longer valid. The Aspen Ski Loft Wi-Fi network is password protected for the security of our guests. Instructions provided prior to arrival.
