I am an enthusiastic traveler and have been booking my extended family’s vacations online for many years. Before each trip, I spend countless hours researching unique and comfortable hideaways for us to inhabit – in part because I am an online travel junkie, but mostly because I believe that the quality of the accommodations is a huge contributor to the success of any vacation. It's so much easier exploring new worlds when one's family has a comfortable place to sleep, bathe, decompress, and plan the next day's adventures.
And even more than I love exploring other parts of the planet, I love introducing
and sharing Frederick (my part of the planet since 1974) with others. I knew
from day one that Frederick County had a very special charm. To me, it has
only gotten more charming (and considerably more diverse) in the past 39 years.
Presently, Frederick has no downtown hotel and just two popular downtown
B&B’s. I was surprised to discover that there is a dearth of short-term furnished properties or vacation homes available to rent in the downtown area – a huge
omission, from my perspective, because Frederick City and Frederick County are wonderful places for extended visits.
At a crossroads in my life, I decided that something needed to be done about this.
Thus the birth of Frederick Vacation Rentals (d.b.a. FrederickVacationRentalsdotcom)
Owner/Property Manager purchased this house in 2010

We 3 ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) just spent a relaxed weekend here at the Artist's House. I think we are the first guests to stay here, and everything was new and immaculate.
The kitchen was big enough for the 3 of us to have a leisurely breakfast, which was the extent of our cooking. And the living room couch and chairs were so comfortable we had a hard time leaving the room. The large TV was fantastic, with a crystal clear picture. We enjoyed watching a few old movies on the DVD player. We had several great meals in Frederick, did some shopping and went to a car show downtown, and even went to a Roller Derby in Hagerstown.
We all liked the fact that we each had our own private bedroom with those fancy beds that we could adjust from soft to firm with the remote controls (a bit of a challenge at first for us 70 and 80-something old-timers, but we figured it out after a while). We also were surprised that, given we were in a downtown area over the weekend, we heard no noise during the night and all slept soundly.
We sat on the front porch each day and watched the locals walk and drive up and down the street. Great conversation topics ensued.
There was so much we didn't have time to see in Frederick that we all decided that we'll have to come back again sometime soon. Thank you very much for sharing your comfortable home with us.
P.S. All the art was great, too. When we weren't sitting around, we were staring at the walls. Such a variety of talent you have here in Frederick!
My mother and I stayed at the Artist's House recently on a trip and were so grateful for the ease with which we could slip in to such a comfy space. Nancy was easy to reach and very helpful with making the details of getting there simple and straightforward. The house had lots of little touches that not every rental home has. It is clear that Nancy imagines what she would like/need if she were a traveller staying there. And it was very clean and cozy.
I shared this house and the house next door with my neice , her family and my cousin...AND we were all thrilled. Thank you
We stayed in the Artisan for two months. It is in the perfect location to walk anywhere in downtown Frederick. Comfortable beds and everything you need is in the home for a pleasing stay. Nancy is wonderful and gave us so much info on the area. Would recommend!
The Artist's House was the perfect choice for my parents, my niece, and me when we visited Frederick for a couple of days.
The house was very clean and comfortable, and the three bedrooms on the 2nd floor gave us all our own space. In fact, the attractive wood features of the interior suited me quite well.
We really appreciated the central AC plus the ceiling fans in the bedrooms, as the temps outside reached the upper 80s while we were there.
It was obvious that Nancy put herself in the place of the guest when choosing beds, bedding and towels - oh so lovely! The kitchen is set up well for cooking, although we ate most meals out, besides breakfast. Nancy thoughtfully provides condiments for free, and stocks soft drinks and bottled water in the fridge for a small contribution, and even some beer and wine for purchase (very reasonably priced and convenient!)
My favorite aspect of the property is the backyard/garden. I loved sitting there in the morning. It's a little bit of natural beauty in the middle of an urban setting.
The off-road parking is a big plus as well. And the property is located very close to everything you want to explore in this sweet, revitalized town. I took advantage of the proximity of the downtown area in my morning walks - one day along Carol Creek to the end of the developed area - the next day in the opposite direction through the string of parks which roughly follows the path of the creek. Both times I made my way back to Cafe Nola for a delicious cup of coffee! They also have wonderful breakfasts. Dining al fresco at the Greek restaurant Opa, along the beautiful waterway, was a highlight as well.
Frederick is an excellent base for exploring the many historic sites and National Parks in that area of Maryland. We easily drove to Harpers Ferry for the day, then stopped at Antietam on the way back. Had we had more time we would have stayed in Frederick longer to take in more of the lush scenery and enriching historic sites. What a wonderful place for kids and families to explore, and this house is a good family house (assuming the children understand respect for other people's property.) Way better than impersonal and expensive hotel rooms.
We came for this summer to be with my husband who was the manager for the Frederick Keys baseball team here in town. We saw this place online and I begged to be able to stay here instead of an apartment. Everything was fantastic, from the house itself, the area in which it's located and the owners who we're very welcoming and helpful.
The home had everything you would need and more just as if you were at your own home. She had everything available for use such as the Beautiful family and dining room comma a very equipped kitchen, three bedrooms with very comfortable beds and two-and-a-half bathrooms which came very handy at times with a 5-person family. The backyard was great to hang out in, with the beautiful flowers and scenery it was very very peaceful. We also enjoyed the closeness to the Riverwalk and all the beautiful things there. There was always something to do there in downtown. Also, the people there are so friendly that it encouraged me everyday to keep walking and keep going farther and farther to see more and get more exercise. I travel a lot every summer, and I have to say I think this was one of the most enjoyable Summers I had. If you plan on coming here I guarantee you'll have a great time and feel like you're at home all the time. Thank you Nancy and Bob for the wonderful place to stay and for all the help that you provided us. I couldn't have stayed in a better place thanks again. Hope to see you next summer

VRBO's Rate System does not always price correctly. The reason booking is a bit more complicated is that I do not charge extra for cleaning, so the first 2 nights are "front loaded" to cover my cleaning time. Many people are reticent to pay for cleaning for a 2-night rental, and because I require a security deposit, I find that my guests invariably leave the place very tidy, per the terms of the Rental Agreement - so it ends up costing them less.
So... if you are requesting a 3-6 night rental, chances are the actual rates will be ending up lower than the quote.
See Rate Range (holiday rate may be slightly higher):
$400: 2 midweek nts (Mon-Thus)
$500: 2 weekend nts (Fri, Sat, Sun)
After a 2 night stay, each additional weekday night is $100; each additional weekend night is $150
3 nts: $500 - $650
4 nts: $600 - $750
5 nts: $750 - $850
6 nts $950
1 wk: $1000
2 wks: $1650
1 month $2700
Everything after this point is negotiable!
**** Average Nightly rates:
- Average nightly rate with monthly rental = $ 87
- Average nightly rate with 3-week rental = $ 105
- Average nightly rate with 2-week rental = $ 117
- Average nightly rate with weekly rental = $ 143
NOTE: Because I get some longer (1 month plus) rental requests (corporate/relocations), my advance booking policy is as follows:
1. Rentals less than 7 nights can only be booked 60 days out.
2. Rentals less than 1 month can only be booked 120 days out.
* Approximate monthly price. Actual pricing will depend on the days of the month you stay.
