About Tracy Lucente & Bill Houck

Bill, after a prior career in business consulting, has been active in real estate development, construction and rentals for nearly 30 years. He is excited to finally apply his first degree in Forestry to the 640 acres of trees at Tumalo Lake. Tracy, along with her interior design and 'Inn Keeper' responsibilities, is a Global Director in the Clinical Research field.

Why Tracy Lucente & Bill Houck chose Bend

Bill & Tracy, during a 2005 visit to Bend, fell in love with the Tumalo Lake property and the original 5 cabins which had been built in the 1930s. After moving to Bend in 2007, several years were spent obtaining necessary land-use and building permits and trenching 1 1/2 miles to bring in electricity and phone. Construction began in 2009. The Hillside Cabin was completed in October, 2011, the Creekside Cabin June, 2012, the Lakeside East Cabin June, 2013, and the Lakeside West Cabin in October, 2014. Eventually a main lodge will also be built. We feel this is a very special property and believe you will feel the same way after visiting.

What makes this cabin unique

Central Oregon, and Bend, Oregon in particular, are well reknown for both Summer and Winter sports. Enthusiasts from near and far visit for hiking, biking (road and mountain), skiing (Nordic and Alpine), snow shoeing, boating, fly fishing, rock climbing, etc.

Tumalo Lake Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of the nationally known 'Phil's Trail' mountain biking trail system. In Winter, these and other trails and shelters form an extensive snow shoeing/x-country trail network. Tumalo Falls (97 feet tall) is a 3-4 mile hike away. Tumalo Creek, 2 miles away, affords fly fishing opportunities. While staying at Tumalo Lake you are staying on a private square mile of forested land surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest but still only 12 miles to downtown Bend. We began stocking Tumalo Lake with Rainbow Trout in 2013 and guests this past Summer were catching 16-18' beauties. This Winter, weather permitting, we will be making an ice skating rink on Tumalo Lake.

There is no other place so close to Bend affording such quality accommodations, privacy and natural beauty.

Tumalo Lake Lodge is the perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is exactly as advertised. Beautiful, comfortable and well stocked. The setting could not be better, the lake is wonderful, and is full of large rainbow trout. The Bend area is wonderful, easy day trips to Crater Lake, Painted Hills, Smith Rock. The high desert museum is worth a visit as well. Plenty of great restaurants only a few miles down the road in bend, or the cabin is fully equipped for home chefs.

Overall a great trip.

Beautiful “cabin” in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful and peaceful stay at this beautiful home. Bill and Tracey were great in all respects — both pre-arrival and when we arrived and checked in. The home is beautiful with wonderful porches for sitting and enjoying the lake and the mountains. It is well-equipped with all you need for a great get-away in a beautiful part of the country. This was our first trip to the Bend area. We liked this home because it was away from town but still close enough to go into town for shopping or eating out if we wanted to. The hot tub on the deck was a big plus, as well as a convenient and easy grill. The bedrooms are equipped with windows all around making for a lovely setting for sleeping. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some luxury in the wilderness. It is a little hard to get to as there is a dirt road off the main road requiring a one and half mile drive but it wasn’t a problem at all for us. There are 3 other homes on this property but at a sufficient distance away not to feel crowded. There are also kayaks, canoes and paddle boards provided, including life jackets for all sizes. This is a wonderful property in a beautiful location and I want to go back.

Beautiful lakeside cabin. Secluded and peaceful property about 20 minutes from Bend.

  • 5 of 5

My wife, daughter and I spent a 4 day weekend in the hillside cabin. The property is beautiful with access to the outdoors right from the cabin door. Snowshoes were provided so we took advantage and hiked around the private and beautiful tumalo lake. the cabins are well equipped and very comfortable. The hosts are very attentive and friendly. I was a bit nervous when told we needed to have chains to get to the cabin, but with an awd vehicle (Subaru) it was no issue traversing the 2ish miles from the main road to the cabin on the private gravel drive. We will be back again for sure.

The home and property are absolutely wonderful. We had a beautiful winter stay at the hillside cabin. It was spacious and had every amenity we needed, even a pizza cutter! The lake and surrounding forest are beautiful and wonderful to explore. Well located for going skiing at Mt. Bachelor. Between the beautiful surroundings, well appointed kitchen, wood burning stove, the hot tub and the peacefulness you can't really ask for more. We will definitely be back soon!
