Do not miss out on this unique area! We fell in love with the area and try to spend as much time at the cabin as possible. I cannot envision a more perfect place for my family to spend time together and I know that you will feel the same way. We have stocked the cabin with games, books and movies. There is also wireless internet in perfect working order. Our goal is to garner a place for your family to have as much fun being in nature and enjoying one another as we do there. Build bonfires and roast some s'mores, play games and simply enjoy being together. You will not see any other homes from the property, so you should be in peaceful seclusion.
However, if you get tired of one another, rest assured that there is more than enough to keep you occupied! We have stocked the cabin with pamphlets and area information to help you discover this incredible area. We encourage you to explore the local diners and have some good home cookin'!
From now until November 20th, we are offering discounted rates for those that book with us, as we are still polishing off a few details.
We are a family of 5 and we love to travel. Since 2004, we have owned businesses and sought to live an entrepreneurial lifestyle so that we could spend more time together as a family and with our friends. In 2017, we will be living in Nicaragua doing community development among the impoverished. When you stay at our properties, you help our family help others!
Brian and Hannah Walter purchased this cabin in 2014
It is absolutely peaceful. As soon as we drove down the drive, we were sold. There is not another person in site and our kids love tromping up and down the hills, throwing stones in the pond below. It's simply blissful.
We really enjoyed our stay. We were doing outdoors activities all day, so didn't spend as much time inside as expected. Convenient to a lot of outdoor sites and things to do, and there are several great restaurants in Travelers Rest, about 10 minutes away. We are already planning a longer stay in the spring, and this will be the place we stay!!
Barn Owl Inn is a lovely little home on a beautiful hill with a wonderful view of nature. We observed deer, squirrels, and chipmunks during our stay. We found Barn Owl to have most everything we expected. Nice and plentiful linens, a great washer and dryer in a great location, good and well appointed kitchen for its size, and nice bathrooms.
We were a little disappointed to find no working cable or Wi-Fi as advertised, but we had some bonus time on our phone plan and didn't mind the analog service too much as we were not in the house a great deal. We also had an issue with the heating system which had to be run on "emergency" setting for our entire stay. Might be a need for service there to prevent spending a mint on electricity! We did contact the owner about the heating and Wi-Fi concern and she offered to have someone look at the heat. We declined as we didn't really want to have maintenance people in during our stay, but we do hope this issue has been corrected for others.
We also loved the fire pit and grill access and took full advantage of both during our stay. While well appointed, we found the kitchen cabinets in a state of disorganization that was a bit of an issue. I spent the better part of an hour scouting out dishes and cookware and cooking tools so that I could prepare our meals. This might have been the result of careless renters who did not return things to their proper place. I hope we left it easier for the next people to use the kitchen! Not sure whether the owner does the laundry and cleaning between renters, or if there is a service for that, and the issues were not obvious until one tried to prepare a meal, so perhaps this was an oversight. We have used VRBO and rented through real estate offices in the past, and we know that there is usually a quick "inventory" of kitchen appointments, so this seemed odd!
Even odder, the last night of our stay, we discovered a roach infestation in the kitchen upon turning on the light when we entered. We had noticed a couple of stragglers earlier in the week, but nothing excessive. We hope that the owners will definitely call an exterminator to remedy this situation, as no one wants to share their food with these critters!
While we were not totally dissatisfied with our stay at Barn Owl Inn, we do have concerns that we hope will be taken care of so that this lovely and quaint little cabin will continue to thrive as a rental for the owners.
Well-equipped, except there was only one coffee cup. Bring your own hair dryer. Internet was very minimal. The fire pit was a big hit, but the pond was disappointing. Plenty of cleaning supplies and TP, nice linens and towels. Washer was a bit noisy, but great to have. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
We really enjoyed our stay here. It was peaceful and homey. I have 4 children and we had no problem having enough room for everybody. It was literally a home away from home
The pictures of this home do not do it justice! It is a beautiful home with plenty of space!!! We absolutely enjoyed our stay, the kids walked in with "oohs" and "awes". No place is better than this! The owners were so helpful! It was peaceful and relaxing! We plan on booking here every year!
This the cutest place. Just close enough to city of Greenville. Nice and cozy with wilderness feel, but with all the conveniences. The little town of Traveler's Rest is an unexpected find also. Really nice places to eat, walk around and shop. The Barn Owl Inn is well put together. Privacy for 2 couples with 2 bedroom areas and 2 baths. Plenty of bedding for kids or singles in addition to the bedrooms. Deck was wonderful for morning coffee and visiting! This host and hostess know their stuff - very courteous kitchen and with coffee and filters! Our family will definitely book this gem again. 12/2015 Julie P
