Neighborhood.

Charming historical center of the city never fails to arouse interest with its countless masterpieces: the architecture of the churches and colored marbles remember the past splendor of Florence and the part he played in the development of culture and art of the Renaissance. The heart of the city and the historical and religious center is the Piazza del Duomo , the site of a monument of great value: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, rich in works of art and dominated by the majestic dome of Brunelleschi. The Baptistery of San Giovanni ( Baptistery of St. John), a magnificent example of Florentine Romanesque architecture , is located in front of the Cathedral , in front of the Bell Tower, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture in Florence. The magnificent Loggia del Bigallo full grandeur of the square. Behind the cathedral is the magnificent Museo dell'Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore , exhibits a valuable collection of works of art that originally was inside the Cathedral , Baptistery and Campanile .

The historic center of civic life is the Piazza della Signoria , home of the 14th-century Loggia della Signoria and Loggia dei Lanzi , it is adorned with ornate carvings and famous : think the Neptune fountain and Palazzo della Signoria , otherwise known as Palace Vecchio one of the landmarks of the city. Several statues stand in front of the Palace , in particular, a copy of Michelangelo's David (the original is on display in the Galleria dell'Accademia ) .

Next to the Piazza manages the majestic Uffizi Gallery, home to one of the most important and famous museums in the world ; inside are works by Botticelli , Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and many other great artists , thus outlining a journey through works of art that must be seen. An architectural element worthy of note from the Uffizi Gallery is the Vasari Corridor , a corridor high inventiveness , designed by Vasari in the mid-16th century and which connects the Gallery with Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti.

The charming Old Bridge, populated by historical jewelery shops , leading to the Oltrarno district , where other important public works and religious are - starting from the small church of Santa Felicita, which owns , among other works , a series of frescoes by Pontormo. Particularly noteworthy is the Piazza Santo Spirito, where the 16th -century Palazzo Guadagni and the magnificent Basilica of the Holy Spirit stand . The latter is completely covered with Renaissance decoration and home to the Convent of the Holy Spirit , the old refectory of the convent profusely decorated with frescoes.

A little further on is the beautiful square dominated by the Pitti Palace, the imposing and magnificent palace that was home to the Medici family, the House of Habsburg -Lorraine and Victor Emmanuel II for the short period when Florence was the capital of Italian . Wonderful park of Palazzo Pitti , Boboli Gardens , extends along the ' hill of the same name ; these magnificent gardens in the Italian style blend perfectly natural elements for the architecture , statues and fountains contained within.

The region

The roots of all are in Tuscany - from big to small things. In Piero della Francesca's fresco is the spirit of a region that has spent most of his money to beauty and quality. The perfection of the Tuscan culture can be found in a bowl of Ribollita soup , made with cabbage and served with seasonal oil d ' olive oil freshly squeezed , or tasted in a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino Riserva ; but it can also be found in one of the many free delights of the region , its landscape painting , its thermal water reservoirs , or some of its beaches still poorly understood.

These things are not present in the rest of Italy, but Tuscany has a unique concentration of them. It also combines fierce pride and attention to detail , such as the protection of the territory, complex and irritating but also simple and basic to conservation of the region.

Tuscany is a collection of cities, Siena, Arezzo , Pisa, Lucca , Cortona , each outstanding for its harmony and beauty. Then there are villages, villas, countryhouse, farmhouse, cottage that tell a ancient rural life. This great man's work is identified with the epic landscape.

The area

Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance and this is seen looking around everywhere, while you walk in the historic center. Great artists were born and worked here, Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo. The genes of the Renaissance were here at home and have left their mark exceptional. Frescoes by Giotto, the dome and the Palaces of Brunelleschi, the David and other sculptures by Michelangelo, the paintings of Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli.

When you arrive in Florence there's so much exquisite art and architecture, it's difficult to know where to start.

But Florence is a vibrant city, full of fantastic restaurants and a lively nightlife and a vivacious cultural movement that goes beyond the old masters to embrace opera, classical music and contemporary art. Beautiful, historic, full of sophisticated shops and quality craftsmanship, and close to the vine hills of the Chianti region, Florence is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Europe.

The district

Oltrarno is the neighborhood on the other side of the river, the Florence of Florence. In it survive artisans who seek to preserve their ancestral experience. This area is still alive and handed down traditions, this you can comprises walking for its small medieval streets. It 'a piece of old Florence which survives.

A wonderful stay

Home is beautiful and in a great location. Walking distance from everything. It is comfortable with air conditioned and just like the pictures. We enjoyed reading host's tips on the city and cuisine. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning one day soon.

Chrming apartment and lovely neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

This apartment in Florence was exactly what we were looking for. A space for us 4, in Oltrano but a few steps from Ponte Vecchio. The host gave us many tips on the neighborhood of Santo Spirito, shops and restaurants. We ate at the Quattro Leoni restaurant one evening and it was perfect. Lively, great staff, great food. The street a few steps from Piazza de 'Pitti is a delightful street, with shops and cafes. The neighborhood is a nice walk, especially in the evening. Both it and the apartment are very charming and it s worth visiting them for several times. Highly recommended.

Lovely apartment in the very lively area in Oltrarno. It's in one of my favorite neighborhood in Florence, so close to walking everywhere. Rooms were very comfy, living room/kitchen area was wide and charming. The area is full of great places for drinks or food and has a great vibe! We will definitely be back.

Wonderful and interesting flat

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful and interesting flat, right in the center of everything, but out of the touristy feeling area. You can access all of the regular sights of Florence, and also enjoy the slower pace of the Oltrarno neighborhood, just steps from the front door. Great little cafe Artigani just around the corner for breakfast. Highly recommend it and hope to be able to go back and stay next year!!

Comfortable and inviting apartment, great location

  • 5 of 5

Awesome location, walkable to all you would want to visit whilst in Florence. The pictures are completely accurate of the apartment. The kitchen is large and adequate. The living room is comfortable and inviting. The bathroom and shower are small but characteristic and useable, then they are separate and this is useful. Host was extremely helpful with everything and very knowledgeable with where to visit and places to see. Highly recommended!
