This peaceful retreat is a lovely private home. With new carpet and wood flooring throughout the house. We believe you will be very impressed and want to come back time after time. The house is nicely laid out with an open floor plan on the main floor. A two story addition was added to this classic Northpoint home which included a separate game room/tv room on the lower story and a large bedroom with sleeping loft on the main floor.
The main floor boasts a nicely appointed kitchen with new stainless steel appliances, a large living area with seating for at least 7 and a flat screen TV, CD player and radio. The dining table in this open layout comfortably seats eight, although more chairs are available for extra seating.
Each bedroom has its own TV and the bedroom on the main floor has its own sitting/reading area if you want to get away from it all. All the beds are queen size with high thread count sheets and down comforters. We believe in making you as comfortable as you would be at home.
This home offers multiple levels of decks with views of the valley in the winter time through the trees. The hottub is accessbile both through the game room and through doors out of either of the downstairs bedrooms.
Peaceful Retreat as we like to call our home is centrally located between the main attractions in Canaan Valley and the small town of Davis. We find this works out well as it is just a hop over the ridge if you need to grab something from the grocery store but still only 5 minutes to the ski areas and other attractions in the Valley.
This home allows our family to get away from the daily ins and outs of our lives. It provides a place where we can come together now as a large family with many grandchilden and hike, bike, ski or simply relax. We started coming to the valley in the early 80's and finally decided to purchase this home for all the family to enjoy.
Would have liked to have personal items such as shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer. Wifi was spotty. Electronics (tv, audio) were all pretty old but functional. Sheets were not that comfortable. Some of the towels had an odor. Hot tub was great. Beautiful surroundings. Kids loved the loft area. Kitchen well stocked, nice appliances including washer and dryer.
Plenty of room for our group of 8 adults and 4 small kids. We are not the "eating out" type so it was nice having a fully equipped kitchen to cook our meals, including Thanksgiving dinner. Lots of hiking nearby at Blackwater Falls and anything else you could possibly need in nearby Davis. And the hot tub in the falling snow was glorious! We will definitely be back.
The house is tucked away with plenty of privacy and it gets so much natural light! It is spacious and the hot tub was so nice! We had a great stay. The owner was easily reached and very pleasant
We took a family trip here with my Dad, brother, me and my 2 sons. It was a great cabin. Perfect with a bedroom and bath on the main floor so he didn't have to climb stairs. There is a ramp to the cabin. There was more than enough room for all of us. The decks are a great place to sit in the mornings and evenings. We stayed during one of the hottest weeks in Davis and the cabin was plenty cool with the ceiling fans and windows open. The towns were quaint and wonderful to walk around in. We went to Blackwater Falls and it was beautiful. We biked and hiked. We originally wanted to do some fishing but the creeks were low. We ended up at a lake in the state park and did a little fishing and caught Big Mouth Bass and perch. They were small but it gave my youngest son some good memories with his Grandfather.
The cabin was the cleanest place I have ever stayed in my travels. Unbelievable crew that they employ. The kitchen is state of the art and we had great breakfasts and dinners there. I can't say enough good things about this cabin. The beds were comfy and the wi-fi was strong in the cabin. It had everything we needed for our stay. We had a great time and made some wonderful memories.
The house was cozy and set up nicely. There was plenty of room for our 2 families - 4 adults, 2 teenagers, & 4 boys. Loved the multi-level decks. Couldn't get the lights/electric to work in the downstairs rec room, which made it difficult to navigate at night. The bottom dishwasher rack needs a wheel replaced - was hard to get it in & out. The hot tub was very nice, but not sure if it contained the proper chemicals, & the temperature seemed to be a little off (it ran VERY hot). Central air or a dehumidifier would have been nice lol as the house was pretty damp & muggy, making for some stickiness - especially the kitchen table. But overall, we enjoyed our stay & had a great time! We did some hiking, went to smokehole cavern, did the catch & keep trout fishing, & played in a river. We had a wonderful vacation!
We had a great weekend in Canaan Valley, but it got off to a rocky start. I was told that I'd receive and email with check-in information the week of our departure date, but I never got any correspondence (even after many email attempts). On the day we were supposed to leave for our drive to WV, I had no other option but to go through my rental agreement and find the owner's personal phone number as I hadn't heard from the agency that handled the rentals regarding check-in procedures. Luckily, the owner had enough cell phone service to kindly text me the codes to get into the gated community/into the house. We arrived at night during a rainstorm and quickly discovered that none of the outside lights worked. This wouldn't have been that big of an issue, but we had to unload a car full of supplies in the dark while trying to navigate the long set of stairs from the parking area to the house with no lights to assist us. During our stay, the house owners and I tried to coordinate someone coming to check out the electrical situation, but the property manager/assistant manager were both out of town. Again, the lights were only a small inconvenience, but certainly would have made our arrival a lot easier.
The architecture of the house was beautiful, with many rooms and plenty of space and privacy for everyone. The trees surrounding the house and deck made it feel incredibly private but with lots of natural light. The hot tub was wonderful after a long day of rafting. The bathrooms and showers were plentiful and clean. We were able to listen to music all weekend through the newer TV/speaker system. The appliances all worked well and we had plenty of kitchen amenities for everyone.
That being said, it seemed like the house had been closed up for months- there were Christmas decorations and cobwebs everywhere and it had a pretty severe musty smell. We opened up all of the windows and put the ceiling fans on for a while and it seemed to help a bit, but it really didn't seem like anyone had been in the house and aired it out for a really long time. One of the couches was broken, one of the downstairs doors to the deck wouldn't shut completely, and many of the inside lights were either burnt out or they didn't work.
All in all, we had an amazing weekend. The positives FAR outweighed the negatives. We aren't picky guests and therefore weren't dissatisfied, but someone with different standards might have felt otherwise.
