Great big house on a very nice private beach.

  • 5 of 5

We needed a large family house for a 90th birthday celebration and this one had it all - large open living room leading to a good-sized deck with a gorgeous view of Cape Cod Bay, a generous kitchen and dining area, and room to sleep a bunch of kids. Well maintained and fully equipped. Parking is tight, but town parking passes to a close lot are available. We would do it again.

Backyard Beach

  • 5 of 5

We returned this year for our second stay at this great property (early Aug). My previous review still holds true - the house really is perfect for a large family with little ones. How can you beat having a backyard beach? I like that the house is nicely appointed but still low-key and family friendly. We moved a few of the decorations out of reach of little hands and we were good to go. The rental management team is responsive to requests and helpful. The children love the bunk room upstairs and at our request, the management supplied us with an extra air mattress so we could squeeze in one more child. We live local so supplying our own sheets and towels was fine. I imagine that renting those might be easier if you are coming from far away. We never missed a nightly bonfire (BYO firewood or buy locally for $5/bundle). We loved making s'mores and watching the night fishing and even fireworks two nights. The beach still has rocky parts, but the water was clear and warmer than last year, with a nice sandbar. I was glad we brought the water socks/shoes (Amazon $6) - children ran right over the rocky sections of beach and seaweed without a thought. We rented a paddle board from Rideaway (free delivery, they supply life vests) - the board was in use non-stop. I picked up body boards and an extra beach umbrella (house had one) at The Christmas Tree Shop near the bridge. Once again, the children enjoyed having their bikes to ride to the local market and Titcomb's Bookstore (required carefully crossing Rte 6A). The bookstore not only has great books and toys, it also had a lot of interesting events that I wish I could have attended. The Hoxie House tour was fun for those interested in seeing one of the oldest houses on the Cape (12+). We did a little rainy morning visit to the Greenbriar Nature Center (5 min away) where the kind staff led the younger children in a cardboard craft activity. They had a few interesting animals ( snakes, frogs, bunnies), a nice garden, and they have jam making/tasting demonstrations. We fished with Captain Joe P Charters out of Sandwich and caught 4 striped bass for dinner. My children loved the Zipline Adventure Park at Heritage (requires reservations and best for age 10+). We visited the Canal Visitors Center and enjoyed the fried seafood/chicken fare at Seafood Sams. Out of the restaurants, Fisherman's View had the best atmosphere and food (live music, optional outdoor seating). Happy Travels!

Very nice house on the beach

  • 5 of 5

This house was everything we hoped for. We had a wonderful vacation on a private beach. The house easily accommodated my wife and I and our three grown children and their significant others. There is plenty of room to spread out. Camp fires on the beach, playing games at the large dinning room table or relaxing in the great room with a spectacular view. Multiple decks (4 to be exact) meant we could always find a sunny spot to relax or a shady place to cool off if needed. The house was quiet and clean and had all the comforts of home. The only thing that would make this house even nicer would be a hot tub.

The only drawback with this house is the lack of supplied towels and bed sheets. We have stayed in several Home Away houses over the past few years and this is the only house we stayed in where you had to bring your own or rent sheets and towels. That's just plain weird given the cost to rent this house.

Steve the manager was very responsive and informative throughout the whole process of renting this home, we look forward to staying here again someday.

Great Beach Front Property and Location

  • 5 of 5

Had a family get together coming in from all directions to this wonderful rental unit. It is actually two close sitting cottages that were completely remodeled and combined into one very large unit with a large dining area as the "connection" between the units. The entire unit is beautifully decorated. It can sleep 10 in beds and more with use of the large couches. There is a huge great room area with expansive windows overlooking the dune and beach. beyond. Due to a bit of cooler weather,(September) we brought the huge exterior table in from the deck and were able to easily accommodate a large wedding dinner of 16 people with ease.

This unit is unbelievably well equipped. As another reviewer mentioned it would actually help if they listed the countless amenity items they offer - coolers (4) beach chairs (numerous), high chairs, rubber rafts, play toys and on and on. You can virtually pack your bags and assume everything else is there. Kitchen is also completely equipped and very modern. Full washer and dryer. The unit has an outdoor shower - an additional bonus coming off the beach.

You will need to bring your own sheets and pillow cases and towels or order them from one of the local vendors. We used Auntie Vi's, which worked fine. Convenient and very cost effective.

In terms of location, this unit is on Cape Cod Bay near Sandwich, about a quarter of the way out on the Cape. There is a large convenience store a very short drive away and numerous quaint restaurants all within a 15 minute drive. Although we were there after Labor Day, when it was much quieter, I can see where this would be a very convenient location during the crazy summer months. The water is a bit cooler in the bay, (we were told) and did not realize beforehand.

There is a nice fire pit built from rocks on the beach although you will need to purchase your own wood from roadside stands or the convenience store. There is a large Save A Lot Grocery store within 15 minutes for all your shopping needs. There are countless things to do on the Cape from the quaint village of Sandwich to the classic New England fishing port of Hyannis to busy Chattem and all the way out to Provincetown (an hour drive from unit ). The National Seashore on the coast from mid-Cape on out is truly a national treasure.

I would strongly recommend this unit for a large family gathering. It is large enough that everyone can spread out easily yet has the large common great room for evening gatherings.
