Space 2,300 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 1/2 Bathrooms, Wood Stove, Hot Tub, Gas Grill And Fire Pit

We are uniquely positioned on a popular bike route through the peninsula, with Seattle just across the water. The house is also nicely positioned within walking distance (1/2 mile) to the ferry that goes directly to West Seattle, which is a 40min. trip. There are also several beach access points nearby. The house itself is a great destination for a family, a couple, or a bunch of friends to gather and relax. Also enjoy a fun and beautiful garden space (all organically grown!) as well as a joining play field with volleyball net and crochet.

About Liz and Mimi

A couple of years ago I (Mimi) lost my husband Steve and found my myself alone in a big house. The kids all love to visit when they can so occasionally the house is bustling with activity. We were a military family before Steve retired and landed in this beautiful house in Washington, so it was important to the kids and I that we could all still have this place to stay connected to and rooted in. That is when I first started brainstorming ways to make the house more useful while still being able to keep it. With the help of my daughter Liz, I began transforming the house and garden into a peaceful retreat. Earlier this year I remarried! A close neighbor and friend found himself in a similar situation, loosing his wife. So to further perfect the story of this VRBO, I had a new place to live while still being able to offer this family friendly place for others to vacation in. My kids like spending time at the old homestead when there is time in the schedule. It's a win win, they get to come home to enjoy the house they grew up in and now others can use it too.

Liz and Mimi purchased this house in 1994

Why Liz and Mimi chose Puget Sound

My husband and I thought this would be a great place to raise kids and it was! We moved in when our youngest was in pre-school. They've all grown up here. The first thing that sold us was the location. While investigating the house with realtors, my kids spent a pleasant afternoon down at the beach during a low tide....they were in heaven! We've always enjoyed beach time or walks along the beach road as you make your way around the neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

This house is fun to relax in but it is also a great central hub for many outdoor activities around the sound. Bicycling, kayaking, hiking and fishing (to name a few) can all be easily accessed with no major traffic hurdles yet it's only a ferry boat ride away from Seattle.

There is also plenty to do on the property. We recently had a professional Volley Ball net installed with an adjustable net, bocce ball set, croquet set and badminton set all available for use during your stay.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This is a lovely getaway spot! We had a wonderful weekend, biking over from West Seattle and exploring the Mosquito Fleet trail over to Port Orchard. The best part was coming back to a nice hot soak in the tub and an evening fire in the fire pit. So relaxing to come over and enjoy the quiet and the stars. Thank you for making your home available; We will definitely look for your place again!

Beautiful place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

Short walk to a rocky slimy beach, you can see a small piece of the water. The garden was nice, picked some cherry tomatoes for dinner one evening. The hot tub was enjoyed by all once we got the temperature up. Loved the deck off the master bedroom, double chasse lounge was great for evening star gazing. I was disappointed with the town of Port Orchard, absolutely nothing to do in that town. So glad the Kitatas fair started so we could visit there.

Satellite Beach, Fl

Beautiful homey property

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed stayin in such a cozy house. It was a very comfortable place and close to the Southworth-Fauntleroy ferry. We were there for my son's wedding. There were 5 of us. The house is large and Mimi was very gracious. The battery in the door lock needed replacing and she came right up and changed it.

Really enjoyed our stay. Clean comfortable and roomy. Close to family stores and restaurants. Will stay here again when we come to visit. Extra bonus were the little 'extras' shampoo soap some groceries and a lovely garden!

Fit the bill

  • 3 of 5

We quite enjoyed the home in Southworth, however there were some cleaning issues.

There is no light bulb in the living room pole lamp.

The refrigerator drawers were not cleaned.

The coffee pot was dirty.

It was not vacuumed thoroughly. There were areas that had not been vacuumed at all.

The oven top was greasy.

And to top it off - and I am not kidding - in looking for a slipper, I saw what looks like men's underwear under the bed in the front facing queen bed room. Who knows how long it has been there.

Thank you for passing this information on to the owners.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the constructive feed back! I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our family home for your stay but do apologize that the house was not up to better cleaning standards for your stay! We had recently tried out a new cleaner to use as back-up and have since decided to forego that option. There were so many details to explain that it seems some attention to detail was overlooked, like fully looking under and vacuuming under the bed. We do normally check under and around the beds and in drawers to make sure missing items are accounted for and returned, but again, our temp cleaner missed doing that this time. I also appreciate you pointing out the missing light bulb as no one else had yet mentioned that it was missing or out. We normally clean during the day and don't turn on that light when we are there. Again, we are happy to hear that your stay was mostly a good one, despite the few cleaning blunders and hope you decide to stay with us again!
