This cozy cottage was built in the 1800's and recently rehabbed. Quaint but eclectic, this home offers tin ceilings, an exposed brick chimney, original pine floors, art glass windows, and tons of natural light.
The first bedroom has a queen bed with a half bath attached.
The second bedroom is actually a sunroom with a queen-size canopy bed. It has its own sink area, as well as access to the outdoors. Three large skylights welcome the morning sunshine.
Children will love the loft, with its two tented twin beds. Also, there is a queen size sleeper-mattress on the floor for further sleeping, as well as video viewing.
Off the loft is a small screened-in porch that opens onto a 20' x 20' deck.
The kitchen and living room combine to make one large room. Food and fellowship are always a winning combination.
The laundry room is available for your convenience.
As a flight attendant, I stay in quality hotels almost every week... so cleanliness is very important to me. If you call and my phone is off, I'm probably on the airplane or in Germany--But I will call you back in 1-3 days--or email me, I'm often connected to the internet.
I moved to Petersburg in 1998 for the country setting, which was still only 25 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, and 13 miles from the Cincinnati airport (CVG).
Petersburg has only about 300 residents, not counting the cows at the one end of town. It's not unusual to hear the clop-clop-clop of horses' hooves as they ride down the street.
The first time I drove into town, the winding road reminded me of driving in the Italian Alps. Since I travel for a living, I was delighted to find my own 'Mayberry' with a touch of Italy.
Deborah purchased this cottage in 2003
The vacation home is located one block from the community center, which has a playground available to all, as well as basketball hoops and a ball diamond. There's a small park on the river's edge, as well as access to the river itself for kayaking, fishing, canoeing, etc. Our tiny post office is 2 blocks from the house, and if you like walking, it's exactly one mile around town.
6 miles away is the historic Dinsmore Homestead, and across from Dinsmore is Middle Creek Park (Boone County), which is great for hiking. About 13 miles away is Rabbit Hash, KY, which has a wonderful old general store. (Google any of these attractions for more info.)
Our family had an excellent time during our week-long stay at the Cottage. The house was extremely clean, well organized. As a family of four we didn't test the house to the full capacity, but there was plenty of room for us to spend time together and to have daily quiet time where we didn't disturb each other... the girls used the upper level nooks as their fortresses; my wife and I were able to hang out in the evenings without concern of disturbing the girls while they tried to sleep. While it seems small on the outside, there was plenty of room and we greatly enjoyed the house. We enjoyed walks around the neighborhood; found a tree swing at the bank of the Ohio River and took numerous walks along the banks of the Ohio River collecting rocks, finding shells and learning how to skip rocks. The house is extremely close to the Creation Museum and was a relatively easy drive to the Ark Encounter. We are convinced that when we come back, we will plan to stay at the Cottage!
We throughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Everything we needed was there and worked fine. Everything was clean and linens better than many hotels. The neighborhood was quiet, a playground up the street but unless you were going by you wouldn't know a group of young people were playing basketball. With just 4 of us one tub was fine but with a houseful it could be challenging but workable. Decor may not be to everyone's taste but we found it to be cute and charming. All in all a very enjoyable stay.
We enjoyed our 4 day stay at "The Cottage" so much. We were completely charmed when we opened the front door! The cottage was so cozy and comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. We came to visit the Creation Museum which was only 10 minutes away and the ARK which was about 45 minutes. Also drove to Rabbit Hash which was a fun excursion. We will definitely recommend Deborah's Guesthouses to our friends and family and wish Deborah the best!
We enjoyed our visit to Kentucky, and our stay at the Cottage. This was the springboard for our trip to the Ark and the Creation Museum, which were also fabulous. The four star rating is for a few nitpicky-things that may be personal preference, but I could not hesitate to recommend this place in general. Keep up the good work!
It was a cozy little place. Helpful guest book, great to have a kitchen, laundry room and grill! Worked well for our large family.
My family spent the 1st week of August in the Cottage, where we were very close to the Creation Museum, which was the reason we chose to stay in Petersburg. We could easily go back to the house for lunch and back to museum in a short amount of time. The town is very charming, clean, and welcoming. There were 7 (5 adults, 2 teens) of us and we had enough space in the house to 'spread out' which is very important with teenagers. I would certainly stay there again or try out another one of Deborah's houses when we visit the museum again. There were 2 instances that we needed to contact the owner and both times yielded quick responses to our inquiries. Thank you for providing a home away from home. Many blessings.
