About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

This cottage is the perfect getaway if you are looking for a private and secluded vacation spot! We are located at the end of the private Cherry Home Shores community right up against the forest with lots to explore! We have a large front deck with gorgeous views of Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan. We provide 4 kayaks for plenty of family fun. The neighborhood is perfect for biking, jogging or walking.

There are many attractions and activities in the Northport area. Our favorites include Sleeping Bear Dunes, many wineries to tour and do tastings, historic Fishtown in Leeland with shopping and lakefront restaurants, and marinas with boat rentals and fishing expeditions. There is also a casino and lighthouse museum to enjoy.

About The Owner

I am a retiree from Clarkston, MI. I have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. We all love summer vacations in our cottage on the lake.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1992

Why The Owner chose Northport

Cherry Home Shores appealed to me because of the quite and secluded area on the water. We have our own boat and kayaks to enjoy the lake.

Awesome place for relaxing by the lake

  • 5 of 5

Great location. A bit of a hike, but perfect for browsing Northport, Sutton's Bay, wineries and Leland. Much better than the crowds in Traverse City. Great restaurants within 15-30 minutes. Plenty of wineries and just awesome be in such a quiet and secluded spot on the lake.

Peaceful Cottage on Lake Michigan

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a wonderful time over the Memorial Day weekend! This cottage was a perfect fit for us, with a beautiful view to match. Traverse City is only about an hour away, and the entire peninsula has plenty to do. Tandem Ciders is a great stop, and only about 25 minutes or so away. Northport has a great small-town brewery with an Up North vibe minus the crowds you get in Traverse. As someone who's family has had a cottage up north for decades this place is about as authentic as it gets!

Amazing view

  • 5 of 5

The living room is quite cosy with the biggest gas fireplace I've ever seen and decent leather couch, loveseat, and a armchair. Although you could technically seat six people in the living or dining room, I'd recommend no more than four. The gas barbecue is also huge and worked really well for us, igniting on the first try. If you've never used NEST thermostats, you might wonder about the temperatures going up and down, but you can of course override it at any time. The electronic door locking system was very nice and simply the best VRBO experience possible for getting in and out. Towels and linens were amazing, definitely hotel quality stay for those amenities.

The location at the very end of the subdivision can't be beat. There's no neighbors to the north to obstruct the view and with only one neighbor to the south, it is extremely quiet. The beach is maybe 15 paces from the front deck with a nice bit of sand. Like most properties in this subdivision, you can only walk so far on the beach without running into obstacles such as a breakwall, where you'd have to step into the chilly Traverse Bay. However, there are several beach access points in the subdivision so you can definitely get a little walk in. I took the kayak out when the water was calm and it's an easy run up to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse with a fairly natural shoreline.

It was perfect! Quiet, secluded with beautiful views of the bay!

  • 5 of 5

This small cottage is cozy, quiet and secluded north of Northport close to the top of the Leelanau peninsula and the lighthouse. It had beautiful views of Traverse Bay. The beds were comfortable, it was very cute inside. We loved the open floor plan and loft design with the A frame windows and stone fireplace! We went between Christmas and New Years and the lake effect snow everyday made it so beautiful like our own personal winter wonderland! The small towns along the Northern peninsula were all cute with great food and shops. We loved Northport, Sutton’s Bay, and Leelanau. It’s within 30-40 min of around 30 wineries in the northern loop of the wine trail. A couple of wineries were really amazing like Mawby for sparkling wine, and 45 North for some wonderful Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Marsanne, and their Cabernet franc, 45 Red, and Red Barn Red. Two unexpected favorites were Hop lot brewery and beer garden with the outdoor garden igloos and Tandem Ciders! I would highly recommend this place to stay for a small family or group of friends anytime of the year. We had a great time and would book it again!
