My wife and I are both management consultants who have traveled widely for decades, and have developed a strong sense of what we like in a locale and in accommodations. We actively manage our vacation rentals as a future retirement plan, but we select and prepare them by asking a simple test question -- would we be happy to live in them ourselves?
Alec Smyth purchased this house in 2014
Capitol Hill townhouses are quaint but tend to be very deep and narrow, and in consequence dark. This house is the antithesis of that, with its open floor plan and skylights. It is a whole-house rental, not a basement or condo, and within the context of Capitol Hill's 19th century houses, is relatively large at 1700 square feet.
We are six classmates who travel together and Alec's home was perfect for us! Everyone had plenty of room. The home is very comfortable and homey, but completely updated, as well. The home is conveniently located just 5 walking blocks from Union Station, the hub of DC. There you can take a bus, a train, or your Hop On Hop Off tours. On the route to Union Station we passed many restaurants, pubs and a small neighborhood grocery that served our needs nicely. I think you will enjoy your stay as much as we did!!
We had a wonderful stay at the home and Alec was a great host. I had to contact him about one concern and he addressed it immediately. The great air condition in the house saved us has we hit town right when a heat wave rolled in. The home is well equipped for staying in and cooking, which we did a couple nights, but also very close to several great restaurants. We were close to museums, monuments and the Capital with bike rentals just down the street. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks Alec!
The little back courtyard was a great place to hang out. The spaciousness of the home was perfect for our family of five. The aircondioning was a huge respite after a day of walking the city.
Very comfortable house; nice and clean when we arrived. Parking was not a problem. Alec was great to work with.
We stayed at 620 C st. for 2 nights during a Washington DC getaway. We arrived late to a very clean-air conditioned-classical music playing lovely home. My family of 5 was very comfortable-enough space to stretch out after a long day of sight seeing. The location is perfect if you want to start your touring at the east end-Supreme Crt/Congress bldgs. We cabbed back from Lincoln Mem...a bit of a hike to walk w kids. House is fully equipped for daily needs-lovely toiletries and everything was very well stocked-kitchen and bath. Great wifi too. Only con would be the tub needs a little TLC...
Highly recommend this lovely home😀
We very much enjoyed our stay in this townhouse. It is wonderfully situated so that we could walk to The Mall and all the activities associated with that area. The living areas were excellent as were the bedrooms. All areas were clean and presentable. Issues we had with the air conditioning were resolved by the owner when we contacted him. The provisions supplied at the beginning were very helpful given we arrived around 9pm. We would rent this townhouse again if visiting Washington DC.
The house is located on a quiet friendly street less than half a block from Stanton Park and one block from Restaurant Row, a block of restaurants with tables right on the sidewalk. Capitol Hill is a historical conservation neighborhood of beautifully maintained, charming old houses. It has a small-town feel and a human scale, is cosmopolitan, and has a thriving cultural scene. The residential area closest to Washington's institutions, it is home to a large number of politicians and VIPs.
Other Activities: US Capitol, Smithsonian Museums, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, National Archives, Newseum, Folger Shakespeare Library
