My wife and I are both management consultants who have traveled widely for decades, and have developed a strong sense of what we like in a locale and in accommodations. We actively manage our vacation rentals as a future retirement plan, but we select and prepare them by asking a simple test question -- would we be happy to live in them ourselves?
Alec Smyth purchased this house in 2014
Capitol Hill townhouses are quaint but tend to be very deep and narrow, and in consequence dark. This house is the antithesis of that, with its open floor plan and skylights. It is a whole-house rental, not a basement or condo, and within the context of Capitol Hill's 19th century houses, is relatively large at 1700 square feet.
A fantastic place to stay whether you're traveling with friends or family with children. We walked everywhere! Beds are super comfortable and there's so much space!
Property was lovely. Everything was as advertised and the one minor issue we had was quickly addressed.
This was a great location for us. Very convenient to public transportation, walking distance to a park for the grand kids and easy walk to markets. The house was very well suited for our group. We had 4 adults and 2 kids staying at the house plus our daughter and her fiance were there most of the time. The space and furniture is such that we never felt crowded, even when 5 adults were working in the kitchen together preparing Christmas lunch. I highly recommend this vacation rental!
This house was perfect for our weekend stay and family birthday celebration in DC. The house itself was very clean, well appointed, and had everything you might need. This includes lots of extra towels, blankets, pillows, and baby related items (high chair, stroller, gates). The owner, Alec, was super responsive and accommodating. It was very easy to walk to The US Capitol from the house as well as good restaurants and Eastern Market. We could not have asked for a better place! Highly recommended!
Very nice place and smooth transaction. Highly recommend staying here.
Stayed for 5 days for the Washington International Horse Show- great location in an adorable neighborhood. Plenty of space, very well appointed- had everything we needed! Comfy beds and quiet. Master bedroom is the perfect retreat. Walk to restaurants, easy parking, close to Verizon Center! Great checkin instructions and communication- -along with a book that had lots of local hints. Highly recommend- you will be glad you selected this place! Thanks Alec for a great stay!
The house is located on a quiet friendly street less than half a block from Stanton Park and one block from Restaurant Row, a block of restaurants with tables right on the sidewalk. Capitol Hill is a historical conservation neighborhood of beautifully maintained, charming old houses. It has a small-town feel and a human scale, is cosmopolitan, and has a thriving cultural scene. The residential area closest to Washington's institutions, it is home to a large number of politicians and VIPs.
