Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Beautiful 4 bedroom 2 bath Long Island home nestled in the historic village of Saint James on the North Shore. This space is the main floor of a ranch house located a convenient 60 miles away from New York City but a world away in vacation experience. It is easily accessible by car or train.

The house is on 3 acres of land, secluded from the local road by a long driveway, and surrounded by woods. There is a spacious living room, a separate dining room with seating for 8, and a large, warm eat-in kitchen. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and a separate, enclosed porch and veranda. Two other bedrooms have full size beds and a fourth bedroom has a pair of twin beds perfect for kids. The home has lots of light and free WiFi. Other amenities include hardwood floors, a wood burning fireplace, an outdoor grill, spacious lawns for kids to play or just to soak up the sun.

The house is located about 5 minutes from local beaches which border the Long Island Sound. The surf is quiet, the sand is white, and the beaches stretch for miles. Lots of watersports, including sailing, windsurfing, fishing and canoeing are available nearby. Nearby horse farms offer horseback riding and nearly every road in the village is great for bicycling.

From home, it's an easy trip to the Hamptons for shopping and ogling celebrities, Montauk Point for a deep sea fishing expedition, or Jones Beach to listen to an open air concert. There also excellent shopping at the Smithhaven Mall (about a 10 minute drive) and a host of other discount outlets that dot Long Island's North Shore. Other fun activities include in-season strawberry and pumpkin picking at local farms, browsing local yard sales on the weekends, visiting Robert Moses State Park or Fire Island for a dip in the ocean.

One of the pleasures of the Long Island experience is the local dining and shops. Multiple excellent and innovative restaurants are within a 10 minute drive and the village of Saint James, a mile away, provides easy access to everything you might need to make your stay more enjoyable, including supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, post office and ice cream shop.

This quiet home is great for a weekend or midweek getaway from the craziness of urban life. It is also perfect for a summer retreat of sand, sea, & sun. The space available for a stay is the main floor of the ranch home. There is a separate apartment in the lower level which has it's own entrance and is not for rent. There is a shared washer & dryer on the lower level.

About Estela

My husband & I live in New York City with our two daughters and love to travel.

Why Estela chose USA

This house has been used as a summer home and weekend getaway in my family for years. We live in New York City (about 75 minutes away) and spend lots of weekends at the house with the kids gping to the beach or browsing the yard sales. It is an antidote to high stress living, close to both New York & the Hamptons. The huge yard is very secluded and the experience is peaceful.

What makes this house unique

Spacious, secluded home that provides a relaxing weekend and summertime getaway. Easily accomodates 8 people in 4 bedrooms with 2 baths. Just a 75 minute drive or train ride from NY City. Near gentle beaches off the Long Island Sound. Short drive to the Hamptons, Montauk Point for fishing, or Jones Beach for concerts. Excellent shopping and restaurants near by.

This was the best vacation home that we rented to date. We had a weird encounter with a local and the neighbors helped ease our minds with peace. They were so kind and compassionate that I have no doubt that this is the best place to stay on AMI. Definitely will be contacting this family again!

Started out ok, ended in disappointment

  • 1 of 5

The house is in a very nice neighborhood! The kitchen is updated and the common areas are large enough for 8 adults. The furnishings on the other hand are extremely worn, uncomfortable and the decor lacks alot.

My impression of the owner is a bit shady, to say the least. There was a mix up with payments through PayPal and when my bank corrected it and the owner felt she was entitled to it. I offered to let her keep the security and I would send the remainder. She insisted the bank reverse the payment. I tried to make it right by her, even though my bank showed me she was paid twice in error.

I too have a rental listed on vrbo/homeaway,

I have never treated a renter the way she has treated me. I'm always willing to please. I go the extra mile. I was still willing to pay her using my security deposit even though my bank said she was paid. Seems she never intended to return the deposit anyway.

Owner's Response: Owners please beware of this guest. Her modus operandi was the following: she booked an extra day and then requested that she be allowed to pay for that day using PayPal rather than the VRBO payment system. At the completion of her stay, she had her bank reverse the charges, saying that PayPal had double charged her. There was no double charge from PayPal on my end and I offered many times to do a three way call with PayPal or her bank to clarify the issue. She instead suggested I take the charges from her damage deposit. When i told her that that was not the purpose of the damage deposit, she refused to clarify the issue any further. PayPal was of no help whatsoever. This was a deliberate scam and I highly regret I was not more suspicious of her request to book via PayPal. She left without paying her bill in full by reversing her charges after enjoying full use of the property and purportedly enjoying her stay. Ultimately, I applied the damage deposit to her bill. She still owes money on her stay and has yet to provide restitution.

Snow in Smithtown!

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth visit to Estela's cozy and comfortable home in Smithtown, Long Island, and on this trip out to see our family we were able to bring our little granddaughter who is five years old. She had been here once before when she was 2 1/2 and remarkably remembered the house! She takes piano lessons at home and the baby grand piano in the living room was perfect for her to practice on. She remembered the tire swing (and got to play on it again!) and was thrilled when it snowed overnight and left us with six inches of freshly fallen snow. We all had a blast playing in the snow and making snow angels. The great thing about the property (besides the cozy and roomy home) is the property itself is so big - 3 acres - that you have plenty of room to run around and explore without leaving the property!

Because of the inclement weather we did not get to drive around Long Island as much as we usually do on our visits but it was just fine. We still saw a lot of our relatives even hosting a family dinner on Friday night. The huge dining room table was more than large enough for all of our family to sit comfortably and everyone had a wonderful time.

Estela's helper for the property, Ben, was a welcome sight as he came over a couple of times during our stay to help with the garbage can removal and also when it snowed he came over and helped my husband clear a spot for us to park and explained to us about salting the walkways and porches so no one would slip. All went well and no one slipped thanks to Ben and his awesome assistance.

We are so happy to be able to come here year after year and hope nothing ever changes. This is truly like a home away from home for us and we can not imagine staying anywhere else when we visit Long Island!

There is a ramp that leads to the front porch and one to the front door as well that was a great help to my 89 year old aunt who attended our dinner, she has a tough time walking but navigated it safely and was happy to have such an easy entry.

Everything you could want is in the house, lots of cozy warm blankets (temperature dipped to 18 degrees!) and so many things to see and do nearby. You won't be disappointed if you stay here!

Till next time.....

Large, Simple Home | Great Home Base for Work Travel

  • 4 of 5

My boss and I stayed at Estela's home for almost a week while we were in Long Island on business. The home is very large (you could easily sleep over 12 people with air mattresses) and mostly on one level, so it was nice after days on our feet to not have to battle stairs! The kitchen is large, updated and fully equipped. The wifi works well and there were plenty of extra towels, sheets & toiletries. The beds were comfortable, though the home never seemed to get very warm as the thermostat was set on a timer and set to below 65 degrees, so we had to adjust when we got home each evening and wait for the house to warm up. Overall, we had a fantastic stay in the home and would stay again when we are in the area for an extended work stay again!

Pleasant property

  • 4 of 5

7 of us - adults, 5 pensioners and 2 younger adults, all family, -stayed at Estela's property while attending a wedding on Long Island. We found the property pleasant. The high spots were the amazing collections of vinyl ( suits us oldies) and books in the living room, which was comfortably and smartly furnished. The dining room and kitchen were well equipped. The bathrooms were dated but fine .

The main bedroom was lovely and had a verandah and telescope, which was an interesting touch!

The 3 other bedrooms were spartan - some soft furnishing or some pictures on the wall - something to make the bedrooms a little less perfunctory and more homely , would have been welcome. I can imagine that a younger group or a family with children using the house as a base for a beach holiday may not mind but , for us, the addtiional bedrooms were a disappointment. We did not use the lower floor room.

Estela was extremely prompt in providing a new security number for the door when the one we had proved to be for 24 hours, rather than our full stay, as we had been told.

The house was clean and everything we used, worked.

Plenty of room.

  • 5 of 5

Very large house with plenty of room. Large grounds with plenty of chairs for everyone.

Nice quiet area to stay as well , but only minutes from shops, restaurants and bars if needed.

All in all ,great.
