Charm and character for this typical Andalusian 18th c. house with castle views
La casa del piano is a stunning reconversion of an 18th century convent in keeping with the rustic character and traditional charm of the original building. It was our main family home for over ten years so this is definitely more than an ordinary holiday let !
Oak beams, twisty walls, hand glazed tiles, a choice of three patios for sitting outside including a terrace with 360 degrees views and sun loungers, beautifully weathered terracotta floors - it has bags and bags of character; still there's all mod cons too - large la screen TV, DVD player, a well appointed kitchen with extra large cooker.
The house is well equipped for kiddies with football table and board games. a fenced off splash pool (3m x 4 m) and a play ground at the end of our quiet, traffic-free pedestrian street. The house is both spacious and stylish, a pretty attractive home-from-home.
Just a stone´s throw from the village square and local shops, restaurants and bars. Here you can enjoy the very best of being in a very traditional and classically beautiful ¨pueblo blanco¨ .
Jimena is on the well known ´bird super highway¨… each year millions of birds travel from Sub-Saharan Africa to nest all over Europe. They funnel across the Strait of Gibraltar, over Jimena and, eventually, on into Europe. Walk directly from the house to view swallows, black storks, white storks, red kites, ospreys, wag-tails, etc…
Jimena de la Frontera is ideally situated to provide easy access to Blue Flag Mediterranean beaches 20 minutes' drive away, excellent restaurants, shops and superb golf courses (Valderrama, Sotogrande, etc) along the coast.
Bakers and fish sellers come every day with their van to deliver fresh bread, sweet local goodies, and sea food. Supermarkets, banks are at walking distance from the house.
The wonderful cities of Seville, Cordoba, Jerez, Tarifa, Grenada and Malaga are all less than 3 hours away - and Morocco is a 30-min ferry ride.

My partner and I took a three month Andalusian break from our busy city lives in Paris and London... we fell in love with this region, a perfect cross-roads for travelers: Andalusia with its strong culture, breathtaking and ever changing landscapes ... but also on the doorstep to Africa ! We extended our stay ... a wedding, two children and thousands of new places later, tseventeen beautiful years have passed ! We are now living in the Albayzin quarter of Granada always searching more special places to share with our visitors ! We still spend time in Jimena for holidays. It´s a great place to entertain friends !
Christine purchased this Townhome in 2000
Why Christine chose Jimena de la Frontera
The home has lots of curious cozy corners. You always find a place to get away and get comfortable with a book (which we have plenty of). Planning a family gathering? A reunion of friends or family? This home has plenty of space for all and if splitting the cost amongst three bedrooms, it is the most economical option on a holiday break. .
What makes this Townhome unique
The private splash pool, outdoor eating areas, great views from the roof terrace and marvellous walks right from the house make it a little piece of heaven.

funky house with real old world charm
This house is so interesting!!! The rooms are unique and the view from the upstairs patio amazing. We traveled with our 2 adult sons and daughter-in-law and had plenty of space to relax together and quiet time apart. there are lots of common areas to spread out. The home is old and really unusual. For example, locking the door is a great experience-throwing the old wrought iron bolts and turning the key 4 times. The street is quiet and pedestrian. Street parking is not an issue and free. We loved the restaurants nearby and had great meals. We returned to La Tasca because the owner was so charming and food good.
My only negative would be that this home could use a good deep cleaning. It wasn't really an issue but if you are a neat freak, don't stay here. We didn't mind but just an FYI for others who might consider this charming home.
We´re really happy you enjoyed your stay in Jimena de la Frontera and that you felt you were staying in an unique place.
We´re so sorry you found some dust in the house. We have a very strict cleaning planning to maintain the house as clean as possible, with :
- 6 hours for the preparation of the house at each changeover including ironing all the white linen,
- a monthly waxing of the entire house and
- a monthly dusting of the 250 years old beams.
It seems that you arrived just after we worked on the beams and some dust fell during your stay. Please accept our apologies.
We hope you´ll be back soon.
A very lovely family break in December
We were looking for a complete break away and La Casa del Piano seemed to tick every box; however the house, the village and the region passed every expectation. The house is absolutely beautiful; tastefully decorated and both warm and welcoming. In particular the three outside patio areas (incluidng roof terrace) and a huge upstairs living area, just added to the feeling of space and calm. Photos cant do the place enough justice.
We have toddler twin children and they LOVED the house, as so much to explore (hide and seek was a favourite!). Also helpful to have a town square within a minutes walk with a childrens play area and lots of space for them to run around. Perfect as well for parents as the square has a few cafes that look onto the square; so you can outside and relax over some food whilst watching the kids play and have fun with others in the playground. Spain is such a family friendly country.
The house and village has everything you need for a relaxing break. However the wider region itself is stunning with lots to do from exploring castles and little white villages/towns; through to seaside and beach visits.
Christine, the owner, was the perfect host from initial enquiry to arrival and you could tell that it was important to her that her guests enjoyed their time (and not just a service she offered). She is a fantastic host and has a very lovely house manager who lives nearby who was very welcoming and made sure we settled in at the start.
We loved it so much that we have already booked to go back in the Spring. It was a perfect family break to get away and have time together. Thank you Christine.
La Casa del Piano (Piano House) is a dream house in the heart of Andalucia.
I spent 2 months here with my wife and two daughters (17 and 13 years old), and I swear I could stay the rest of my life there, hopefully one time we will. You definitely need a car if you plan to stay in Jimena because there is so much to see around; however in the town, you simply park the car and walk wherever you want, the entire town is on a hill though, so it is a great exercise. Walking the streets of Jimena is relaxing and romantic, and visiting the Castle on the top of the village during a sunset is an experience that will fill your soul. Also, a walk along the river at the bottom of the town, is a walk that you cannot miss. The town is close to the most beautiful "Pueblos Blancos" (White villages) from Andalucia. Jimena is only 1hr from Ronda -considered one of the most beautiful old cities in Spain-; You can drive to the San Pablo train station (10 min.), leave the car and take the scenic train to Ronda....wow! It is also 15 minutes from Castellar de la Frontera -one of the most beautiful medieval castles on the top of the mountain-, 30 minutes from Tarifa, a Moroccan style town where you can eat typical moroccan food, and between 20-30 min. from several beautiful beaches; 1hr from the glamorous Marbella and many other beautiful places to discover within 1-2 hour range; though, in Jimena you will find 3-4 nice and delicious restaurants where we spent great nights. The house has a small relaxing splash-pool, however at the Hostal Anon (100 steps from the house), you can enjoy the entire day at their rooftop beautiful pool for only 3 euros per person....enjoy a glass of wine and an awesome view of Andalucia where -on a clear day- you could even see the mountains of Africa! Christine -the owner of Casa del Piano- is really kind and caring, paying attention to any need we had. I have spend 7 months traveling through Spain and I can say that the Hose of the Piano in Jimena is one of the most beautiful places we have been. If you plan to stay here, you should plan a minimum of 2 weeks so you can visit -if not all-, at least the most beautiful places around. And just FYI, WiFi was reliable and fast, never had a problem with hot water, gas or electricity and beds were confortable. The only downside in this house is that you will not want to leave.
Dear Luis, We´re really happy you enjoyed your time in Jimena. It was a real pleasure to have you and your family staying at la Casa del Piano. We sincerely hope you´ll be back very soon. All the best for your travels !
We went to La Casa Del Piano to write music. Well, we sure went home with a lot of material. What an inspirational environment. The place is lovely, even if you're not interested in music. The village is great. Lots of places to eat and hang around. Friendly neighbours, beautiful views, you can't go wrong. My friends and I will return, certainly!
Excellent location - wonderful hosts and help nearby to offer assistance with local information or if you need anything for the house. Walkable to everything in the village and super views from top terrace of the castle and surrounding area. House is welcoming and very comfortable. Lovely details throughout. Wifi strong, fridge big and splash pool refreshing.
An absolute gem!!
We have just returned from our family holiday in Jimena de la frontera. Our two young children loved the pool so much that we had a job on our hands getting them out! Casa del Piano is the most beautiful and homely accommodation we have ever stayed in. The village itself is an authentic working spanish village that has not been spoilt by tourism and retains all of its charm which makes for the perfect getaway. The people are amazingly friendly and very welcoming. There is plenty to do but if you want to explore then a car is a must. There are plenty of beaches to choose from, the nearest being just 30 minutes away. If you choose to go further then there are some real gems. There is a local train station that goes to Ronda which is well worth the visit. Basically there is so much to write about that I could go on but needless to say both the accommodation and the area has something to offer everyone. We would not hesitate in going back as we enjoyed ourselves so much! You don't find this kind of property in terms of a holiday let very often. It is very spacious, very homely and very quirky! I would definitely recommend Casa del Piano.
birdwatching (bird watching trips available) , trecking (the nature reserve paths start just behind the house), horse riding (we can recommend a great place to rent horses with a guide).
