About Peggy Boring

My husband and I are retired and we use the cottage to visit family and friends while in Marietta. I love people and enjoy the outdoors. My husband likes to garden and hunt. He is a retired WV coal miner of 37 years and a Viet Nam war veteran. We currently reside near Morgantown, WV.

Peggy Boring purchased this house in 2014

Why Peggy Boring chose Marietta

I fell in love with this house the minute I saw it. It was in need of TLC but was basically a one owner home of a lady who used to walk to work on the 'old' railroad bridge at historic Lafayette Hotel! We have worked very hard to bring beauty back to this home. It has been a labor of love and we love River Rock Cottage and offer it with the confidence that you will love it too!

What makes this house unique

This home is perfect for history lovers and nature lovers. The Muskingam and Ohio Rivers meet here..a 2 minute walk up the street will bring you fantastic views of this meeting!! Shopping, hiking, bike riding, swimming, antiquing, flea marketing, and dining all right at the front door!!!! A hometown feeling with so much to do!!

Super cute house and great host

The house was adorable. Much larger than it looks. The breakfast items and snacks provided were a nice surprise. I would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful cottage. Fun visit!

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage, very well maintained, fresh, clean and welcoming. The hostess, Peggy, was so friendly and easy to communicate with. My mom, sister, niece and I visited for a four day trip. The River Rock Cottage was a great location. We enjoyed being able to walk across the bridge to visit Marietta and the two nearby restaurants were so yummy and convenient. We had no idea how interesting Marietta would be to visit. We enjoyed the walking tours, took a bicycle ride and a trip on the river in the sternwheeler. There is so much history here and the Campus Maritus museum did a great job of presenting the history in an easy way to learn. Marietta was a fun find and we would definitely stay at the River Rock Cottage again.

River Rock Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We totally enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Peggy and Roger have done an excellent job of restoring this old home. It was comfortable and the NEW bathroom is outstanding. Great location for enjoying Marietta, but the neighborhood is in transition, so some of the homes in the area are in disrepair. Excellent restaurants are within walking distance, as is downtown Marietta. We would highly recommend this VRBO selection. If you are a hiker, there are wonderful State Park hikes within an easy drive.

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing River Rock Cottage. Marietta is a beautiful and quiet River Town. She has paid her dues and transitioning from the old to the new takes time. Thankfully, Marrietta is trying to keep in touch with her past while affording opportunities to entice and please visitors. We are proud to be part of that and love our convenient location to the access of restaurants and trails, many within walking distance. We look forward to the move ahead in seeing restoration to more of the homes in our surrounding area!

Ohio/West Virginia Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with the cottage. It was in walking distance to some really good restaurants and the Marietta down town area. The cottage was clean and comfortable. It contained everything we needed during our 7 nite stay including snacks, coffee, and breakfast items. The front porch and the back deck provided relaxing morning and evening with our family. We will consider booking this house again if available during our next vacation in this area.

Lots of attention to detail

  • 5 of 5

Peggy has furnished the house in a cozy fashion and goes above and beyond in providing food, drinks, snacks and toiletries. The kitchen is very well stocked. It is a short walk to the trestle foot bridge that leads downtown. Very close to several restaurants. Peggy was responsive to any questions or concerns that we had and made us feel right at home. Great value for a great little town. We will be back.

Marietta was the earliest settlement in the NW Territory. There are many museums and historic homes to tour, many within walking distance. Marietta has many annual events, the most well attended being the annual Sternwheelers Festival, which draws sternwheel boats from many states. There is also a large indoor/outdoor flea market that is within walking distance of the cottage. There are also national parks and historic places in nearby Parkersburg, WV. Blennerhassett Island is a wonderful family place to visit and an easy drive and boatroad. There are numerous local fairs and festivals. Information about these can be found on Marietta, OH visitors web site http://mariettaohio.org/index.php
