High Reach Farm is a working tree farm with a beautifully restored farmhouse that serves as a meeting & educational facility and an ideal home base for vacationers and folks seeking a quiet get away. We have trails for walking, biking and skiing; wildlife; and beautiful views. We are within easy driving of ski destinations, water parks, and quaint villages.
We have outfitted the building for simple accommodations for families and small groups. Both our floor plan and decor have a clean open feel and rooms are multi-purpose. You could invite twenty of your relatives/friends for a meal and have more than enough room to feed everyone, move around and for small groups to gather.
Steve has been the manager of the farm since 1976, using organic and sustainable forestry and agricultural practices. His unique method of growing Christmas trees is called 'stump culture' and rather than ending the life of the tree with each cutting, allows the remaining stump and branches to produce generations of trees for years to come. Steve will be glad to show you some of the fields and explain how the trees are tended and harvested.
We have been working on this building for twenty years and have just completed the current phase of development which now allows guests.
Downstairs features two large open rooms that can be used for dining, dancing, or games. In the middle of the downstairs is the heart of the Farmhouse, an open kitchen.
The second floor has bed rooms on each end - one double bed and the other two twin beds. In between are three beautiful curtained sleeping alcoves with single daybeds. There is also a comfy sitting area perfect for late nite chats or quiet reading. Guests like to take their morning coffee there and watch the morning mist on the beautiful view.
If you'd like a stay in a place that has the feel of being in an exquisitely decorated 1800's farmhouse - this would not be the place. If you are looking for a clean, bright comfortable 'take it easy and enjoy' place - we're it! There's room for everyone to 'do their own thing'.
It is an eight mile trip into any one of three nearby towns where you can go to the local farmer's markets, visit the museum, or enjoy one of the cultural events. We are close to boating on Joe's Pond, Lake Willoughby, or Crystal Lake. Burke Mountain (which you can see from the front porch of the Farmhouse) is a scenic fifteen miles from the Farmhouse.
Your hosts, Steve and Susan, live a mile away and are usually available to give a farm tour or provide information about the area.
Let us know if you have questions and we'll do our best to help.
