Born in Argentina, grew up in Switzerland and Atlanta resident since 1975; retired attorney; single dad of grown and young children; professional mediator of commercial disputes. I split my time between my circa 1900 'shotgun' house here in Atlanta and a cabin in the North Carolina mountains. I enjoy motorcycling and traveling almost anywhere - with particular focus on on the old 'Eastern Bloc'; hiking and alternative lodging. I hope to provide the same kind of experience and amenities in the Aerie Suite that I appreciate when traveling.
Peter Bassett purchased this apartment in 2004
This is a Goldilocks apartment - everything about it is designed to be 'just right.'
MARTA 1/2 block; perfect walking/biking/running area; close to everything without being TOO close.
This was the second time my husband and I stayed at the suite and again everything was perfect. Peter is a wonderful host and goes beyond expectations. Not only is everything clean and attractive, but the extras Peter provides are so welcoming and helpful. He provided some milk, juice, muffins, fruit and other choices for breakfast so that we didn't have to run out to find a grocery store the night of our arrival. The chocolates on the pillows and the bottle of wine are another thoughtful touch. The only thing we had to ask for was a light bulb which burned out and he responded right away and brought it post haste. I also love the way he has an instruction binder in the suite to show and explain how the appliances work, plus a list of close by restaurants shown on a map. It made it easy to find some good places to eat without traveling a long distance. I also love the lovely patio area outside the suite to sit at in the morning. It's a pleasant way to start or even end the day. This is a very charming place to stay with all the latest conveniences and the host couldn't be more hospitable.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this charming lovely suite. Peter could not have been more hospitable. He thought of everything. There was everything we needed for breakfast for the next day (including fresh milk, juice, fruit, cereal & muffins) on the evening we arrived so we didn't have to go out and try to find a grocery store in an unfamiliar city. He even had a bottle of wine for us which my husband enjoyed (I don't drink) and chocolates on the pillows (I got to eat the chocolates!) The place is small but everything is first class and decorated well. The bed was comfy and the kitchen had everything needed if you want to cook. I also really appreciated all his very detailed instructions about how to find the place and the book of information in the suite to tell you how to operate everything and especially helpful were the restaurant suggestions of great places to eat that weren't far away. That certainly saved us lots of time researching where to go. We ate at one of the places he recommended which was Rathbun's Steakhouse and it was excellent. We first went to the wrong place, as there are 2 Kevin Rathbun's restaurants only a couple of blocks away from each other. I think the restaurants are used to people getting them mixed up. Anyway, we did finally end up at the steakhouse and it was worth the trip. Another thing I enjoyed about the suite is the lovely patio area which we could sit at to enjoy coffee in the morning. We also got to visit with Peter who was very welcoming and charming. I don't think I've experienced this level of thoughtfulness at any other place I've stayed. This was soooo much better than a hotel stay. I certainly recommend it
Thank you so much for the outstanding hospitality!!! We really enjoyed our stay! Our accommodation were the best. Thank you for the well supplied house and refrigerator!
If you ever need a place to stay close to downtown you need to look no further.
The Aerie Suite is a great getaway place. It has a comfortable bed, a compact yet full kitchen, and a living room area with couch and TV.
The highlights -
Quiet - it is next to a park but very quiet and almost rural - not the craziness of the Atlanta hotel area
Clean - it was exceptionally clean
Public Transit - If you are staying in the Atlanta area, the train system called MARTA is about a three-minute walk from the house. I used it while I was there and it was very convenient. You can do single passes or get an unlimited week pass for under $25 which is what I did.
Electronics - I like watching TV and there was plenty of channels as well as Netflix. There was even a chromcast setup, so I could mirror my iPad and watch things from my iPad on the TV. There is nice bluetooth soundbar, so you can stream music from your phone or other device if you want. There was a wireless printer if you needed to print anything too. I was able to print from my computer with no setup!
Parking - If you do bring a car, there is a place to park right by the unit.
Other Touches - There are treats in the fridge when you arrive. I am sure it varies, but I had milk, juices, and fresh strawberries. There was even wine. There is fresh bean coffee and a grinder too.
The owner - Peter - was away while I was there, but he answered email usually within a few minutes of me sending them. Peter knows the area well, and he gave me some great advice on places to visit while I was there. It is also obvious he has a wicked sense of humor!
To Know - There is a dog and a cat that live at the main house. The dog can get scared of strangers. He would bark at me, but would backup up not come toward me. He eventually came up and wanted some nice petting. The cat would come and visit me when I came out the door most mornings. If you don't like animals, this might not be the best place to stay. Also, to get to the place, you drive down a long gravel driveway pass a couple of houses. To walk to the MARTA, you go through a couple gates on the side of the main house. Since I have absolutely no sense of direction, it was just a little confusing at first for me, but Peter gives great directions, and clearly doesn't mind multiple (probably obvious to some) questions.
If I ever have the opportunity to visit the Atlanta area again, I would definitely stay here if the place is available.
Came into the area to visit friends and was not disappointed by my accommodations! The suite had everything I needed and was close to so much - including a Crossfit gym just down the street. I will definitely be renting again on my next trip!
The Aerie Suite had it all: a great price, enough space, a fully equipped kitchen, an ideal location right by the MARTA and within walking distance to several area restaurants and shops, a responsive owner, and a comfortable bed.
Some of the things we did during the week:
*enjoyed the muffins, yogurt, berries and beverages provided
*made SEVERAL cups of tea, thanks to the tea, honey and teapot provided
*walked up to the Flying Biscuit Cafe for dinner.
*walked out to the park (Candler, presumably?)
*took the MARTA downtown and to the Zoo (lots of walking once we got there, but that's just because we enjoy it)
*ate at the Vortex and explored Little 5 Points (the latter was not my cup of tea, though the former was delicious)
*I went for a run in the morning and encountered only medium traffic and felt safe while doing so
*easy drive to Stone Mountain
*close to Target, Kroger, Best Buy and I think a Marshall's (probably could've walked but our GPS kept acting up and said it was 4+ miles away walking, which clearly wasn't right).
This was so much better than a stark hotel stay. If you're going to be in the area, particularly for more than a day or two, this would be a great choice.
Candler Park is a uniquely eclectic, diverse, tolerant, laid-back, green and user-friendly neighborhood that is ideally located within easy access to all major Atlanta universities, sports, business and social venues.
