Built in 1924, Live Oak House is a charming historic house nestled in a lush tropical garden situated at the end of a dead end street. This is a very quiet and private residence, surrounded by live oaks and tropical foliage; everywhere you look there is green! Live Oak House has all the elegant and funky charm of a historic home, Florida style; high ceilings, large windows, serious crown molding, and hardwood floors throughout! There are three bedrooms, the master being quite large with a king size bed, single day bed, and writing desk. The other two bedrooms have queen size beds. There is also a single daybed and an optional inflatable queen bed for extra guests. The sun porch can serve as a fourth bedroom. The large living room contains a 52' flat screen TV, and a card/puzzle table. The kitchen is fully equipped, with gas range and wine cooler. The dining room is also spacious and opens onto the outdoor patio which over looks the pool; the patio contains a dining table and chairs as well as a cozy seating area. An upstairs washer/dryer makes doing laundry easy. Amenities include wifi and beach equipment! Bicycles are also available. Live Oak House shares the garden and pool with Live Oak Cottage, a two story, one bedroom home. See photos and info at Home Away #3811725. The Live Oak House and Cottage are both new listings for us; please see our listing #934400 for 2 years of happy guest reviews!
Kathleen is a visual artist and writer; Lou is a professional theatre director and producer. We love Florida living, particularly dear, sweet, funky Lake Worth. We also love good food, good wine, good friends, and good dogs!! We feel blessed to live in such a great area and enjoy sharing it with travelers from around the world.
Kathleen Holmes purchased this house in 1992
Live Oak House and Cottage are in a serene, magical setting, surrounded by ancient live oaks and tropical foliage.
Quiet and privacy in a beautiful surrounding.
Beautiful spacious old house with a great pool and patio for dining. My family and I felt at home immediately thanks to the owner's, Kathleen, warm welcome and the beautiful rooms (the photos don't do it justice) with lots of art on the walls.
The house is in a quiet neighbourhood that's just a quick drive/walk to the beach, playgrounds, restaurants etc.
During our stay, Kathleen really
looked after us. We only wished we stayed longer.
The house and the hostess were both so lovely and embracing that we all said we would go back to Florida ( a place we usually don't enjoy going) just for the chance to stay in this magical place again. The street is quiet, the landscaping is lushly tropical and features two huge oaks dripping with spanish moss and the house is spacious without feeling intimidating with amazing cozy furniture and beautiful art everywhere and the most enchanting outdoor patio and pool I have ever seen, totally surrounded by many varieties of palms that provide perfect privacy. We got lots of wonderful recommendations about local things to do from beaches to a charming Friday on the Avenue event in Lake Worth itself. She lives very close and was immediately available with bikes to lend or muffin pans to use or advice with any quirks of this splendid 1924 house. We were there for a family reunion and none of our family wanted to be anywhere else but hanging out either in the house or in the garden. If you want a taste of what Florida used to be like before rapacious developers paved it all with gated communities, this house is a remarkable opportunity to go back to a more gracious era in style and comfort. Thank you Kathleen!!!!!
My husband and I were exhausted from tending to my elderly mother, from the requirements of a thriving business and a major renovation project. We needed to get away but still be local, we needed peace and quiet and we hoped to find a special rental that felt like home. The moment we entered Live Oak House we knew we had come to the right place. Art and artistic touches abound. Wicker and wood and textured fabrics are everywhere. There is a large dining room table with French doors leading to an outdoor pergola for entertaining friends, puzzles, games, books and pool for play, two queen beds and a comfortable king bed with super soft sheets and a large TV with comfy couch in the LR for the all important movies for her/sports for him. But my favorite corner in this charming old Florida residence is the daybed on the sun porch for afternoon naps. Falling asleep surrounded by foliage shaded windows is better than nice! Kathleen, the owner and host, is a treasure and eager for each guest to enjoy their time at Live Oak House. Give yourself a gift and stay here. You won't want to leave!
Usually I never do reviews but this one made me to write one. Very nice big house with good pool and close to beach. Kathleen was always so helpful and was waiting to welcome us but flight got delayed and we were late in night but she kept open for us. On top of that we had evening flight so asked us to do late checkout. Overall a very good experience.
An amazing southern mansion. Quiet. Ultra charming. HUGE. The master bedroom is so big half our house could fit in it. Beautiful pool. Every amenity: beach towels, pool toys, floats, French press, excellent WiFi, DIRECTV. At end of dead end street. A block from Intracoastal. Updated kitchen. House is clean as a whistle. Loved it.
This house was absolutely charming! 9 of us stayed here (3 moms and 6 kids) for two full weeks and we had a wonderful time. The home and property was spacious and comfortable. Kathleen was incredibly helpful and responsive anytime we had questions about the house or area. Given the close proximity to the beach we were able to bounce between both seamlessly. I would definitely come back and rent from Kathleen again.
